Ella has amazed me for almost 30 years. 'Kettle' way back from Triple J unearthed in 96 was just some unbelievable vocals for someone so young and like fine Wine Ella has only gotten better with age. On this song here I can't think of too many vocalists who could channel the late great Chrissy Amphlett as well.
The Bull sisters were working on the show Rockwiz, they were part of the house band for each episode. So they would back up whoever was singing on the show that week.

RockWiz was a music quiz show that had musical guests singing covers each week. Vika and Linda often appeared as backing vocals for the guests. In fact that is where a lot of people probably encountered them first.

Rockwiz is a TV show. Performers are professionals or were professional. This song is originally by The Divinyls and performed as a tribute. I love Ella. I'd marry her tomorrow! lol

I thought so too and requested it purely to showcase how much Ella's vocals have developed since Killing Heidi. Although, others here wouldn't agree it was a great tribute to Chrissy and the Divinyls, done with respect to the original.
I love Ella. Here she is doing a straight copy of Chrissie Amphlett's song with the Divinyls. Chrissie was a one off indeed and this is a nice tribute.
She completely misses the point of the song. She is singing 'getting on' but the original is 'getting off' as a deliberate play on words. Lame. She has none of the sexuality, energy or musical energy of Chrissy.

Ella Keighery Hooper (born 30 January 1983) is an Australian rock music singer-songwriter, radio presenter and TV personality living in Melbourne. Hooper is the lead singer of Killing Heidi. The band formed in 1996 (when Ella was 13) and also featured her older brother Jesse Hooper. Killing Heidi broke up in 2006. Ella and Jesse have performed small scale venues as an acoustic band, The Verses. Peace out.

Yes, I remember when you did the Killing Heidi song, you said she was ok, but not a singer. So glad you you gave this a listen to. First impressions are not always spot on, but shows you have an open mind. Oh, and Rockwiz, Count Down and Spicks and Specks are all music shows....

This is an excellent performance from Ella, a very good copy of original song sung in the same way, a great tribute to Chrissy's version, takes great vocal skill and performance chops to pull this off!

V & L started out doing a lot of backing. Bit of a right of passage in Australian music, tons of top tier singers did a lot of backing jobs. James Reyne (Australian Crawl) did a song called Hammer Head and Olivia Newton John did backing vocals, years after Grease and a huge solo career. Aussie performers don't seem to be so precious about being the star as much as supporting each other and getting great music out there.
Subscribers should feel free to request The Divinyls original and yes of course the best version if that's what they want to see. This request was to showcase how Ella has matured and developed vocally since Killing Heidi. In my opinion, its a great tribute to Chrissy and done with respect. Can't people just enjoy without making comparisons.

Ella did this as a tribute to the Divinyls especially for the show Rockwiz and was not copying Chrissy as some have commented. Ella was staying true to the original as a tribute should be and not trying to make it her own. Ella is not a power singer, however, has unique rock voice that suited this song. (Yes, you pronounced my name right 😊)

Ella and Jesse Hooper are virtually locals to me, having lived on a farm just down the road from here (Marraweeny) before moving down the hill from here in Violet Town with their mother who just recently passed. Their old man who still lived on the farm at Marraweeny passed a few weeks before their mother.
A much older and more mature Ella Hooper compared to her in Weir - where you thought her voice wasn’t strong enough.
Here she is singing a Divinyl’s song and is very much singing in the style of the lead singer of the Divinyl’s Chrissy Amphlett. Chrissy passed away 9 years ago from breast cancer (with complications from MS). She was extremely well loved in Australia.
They did break into the US market with a top 10 with “I touch myself”.
Definitely worth checking them out.

This is interesting. You’ve reacted to her before with her band Killing Heidi and you seemed luke warm on her voice in that reaction. The Killing Heidi song was an official video rather than a live track like this, so that may have something to do with it, also she’s have matured as an artist between these two performances, so as I say, interesting.
Linda and Vicka are (amazingly) mostly used as backing singers in Australia despite their undisputed talent. They pop up all over the place in the background.
This is reason for my request to show how she has developed since Killing Heidi which in my opinion was not a good place to start with Ella. Have also sent a request of Vika & Linda solo.
I wondered about Vika and Linda as well, from what I can glean on google around the same time they did some festival together, so maybe they just happened to be hanging out around that time. The Bull sisters don't seem as enthused as they usually do is what struck me.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. She's doing it as a tribute to Chrissie rather than trying to put her own twist on it in any way. Probably good idea - people probably would not react well to a singer re-working Chrissie Amphlett's interpretation. Ella does it well, without coming off like she's trying to do an 'impression'.
This is a tribute and Ella was not copying Chrissy but staying true to the original as a sign of respect.

Ella did this as a one off tribute to Chrissy and Divinyls on Rockwiz. Not copying but staying respectfully true to the original. Ella is a singer songwriter in her own right and doesn't need to release covers. This performance was for one night and only for the show. Look at it this way, covers keep great music like the Divinyls alive and people may just check out the originals if not familiar with them.
