Just picked a giant Guava from my plant. Skin was light green and actually kinda soft. It was about 6 years since it produced any fruit. This past season I added a lot of mushroom compost and pruned it a lot. It must have loved the pruning cause it grew pretty big and produced a good amount of fruit.
My husband prunes my guava tree all of the time and I have so many! I would love to share them where I live in NE Florida. It is super hardy. I also grow key limes mangoes and birds of Paradise.

Hi Jell, I am from the country of Jordan. I use NPK 20-20-20 +TE every 14 days for most of the trees in my garden and the result is great. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for video! My white guava tree is in ground here in Houston Texas. It seems to have lost it leaves after freeze and am looking to see how I should fertilize to get new green leaves and growth going? I fertilized today with fish fertilizer, Jobes all purposes fertilizer, and Osmocote 14-14-14 don't know if this is a good regimen and how often
Guavas in the wild grow well without any fertilizer. In my garden I fertilize a couple times a year , but only when rapidly growing… even after a freeze.
Hello, nice video! I have a guava tree that’s in ground for almost 5 years now and have lots of blooms. The problem is that the little fruits would always fall off. I’ve used osmocote 14-14-14 on the tree and water it every other day bc it does get pretty hot here in Corona, CA. What can you suggest so that it doesn’t drop its fruits? I will also try to use the fertilizer you recommend. Thanks.
Thanks for the Reply TGG, I have that other type fertilizer already that you have -- I also have a 50Lb bag of 13-13-13... you think that would be good for young Guava Plants? I got if for a Citrus Orange tree i have growing outside.@@TropicalGardenGuy
Basically so glad you find your channel. My questions are: What type of soil mix is needed for these tropical fruits? How often do you feed it? How's does pruning work? What variety guava is this? Looking forward to more videos like these. I am indian, and we love tropical fruits like mangoes, guava Java plum etc. I have yet to grow guava, mango etc. My dad's guava is still aviation 2 ft tall with some flowers. He uses mostly sandy soil mix which doesn't se to produce much fruit but just foliage.
Its Always better to use ORGANIC FERTILIZER! JUST REMEMBER YOU PUTTIN THAT IN YOUR BODY! I have in my garden Guava trees tropical pink, Malaysian red and Ruby Supreme guava! And Plum trees, Apple tree, Apricot tree and Chile plants, and herbs Rose bushes ...! So I recommend 100% ORGANIC FERTILIZER!🏡💁🏻♀️🌳🍎🌳🌳🍒🌳🍐🌳🌶🌿🌱🌻🌹🌷💐
Awesome content, I need some direction with my 4yr old Guava tree, last year gave first harvest, got a reaction to humidity and Outer part of fruit got dark purple spots and so did the leaves. This year, blossom are dark brown and fall off. Got frequent leaf drop but new growth is progressive. What can you suggest? Thank you in advance. Al
Hi Al, Its hard to tell without seeing the tree. But in my opinion, most of the time this is do to something being wrong below the surface of the soil . When the roots arent happy then the tree isnt happy. Could be soil PH or fertilizer issues. Could be some sort of virus. Sorry I cant be of more help.
I’m in Modesto as well and am staring my backyard fruit orchard as we speak. 18 trees so far but 10 planted. Worried about frost protection for the guavas as I plan to plant them out in the open with the other fruit trees. Any suggestions?
I have a guava in San Diego and it’s in a container. I use a bottom water system because I only have a patio and no hose. I haven’t fertilized mine but how far away from the trunk would I sprinkle this
New subscriber here, glad I found your channel! Do you have any issues with your guava growing so close to the house wall, or concerns with the foundation? How quickly did it grow up being shaded so much? Thanks!
I have a container guava since I live near Chicago. I've had it since May and it's tripled in size and about to bloom. I'm scared of wintering it indoors and ruining all the progress. . Wish me luck!
IMO , guavas are weeds. A freeze zaps them they grow back next spring. My tree being planted up against a wall hasn’t seen a freeze but in the open temps below 28f are hard… but they regrow fast if healthy.
Ok I moved into my place and their was a guava tree already here, Frost had killed it and it was starting to come back, I dug it up and put it in a 20 gallon container so I could move it onto my porch so the frost would not kill it back. Well it's been 3 years not and it's fairly large, but no fruit or flowers. Any suggestions other then the fertilizer you recommended ? and what do you do to protect yours from frost every year?
I got a house and it came with a huge 22 foot white guava and a 24 foot pink guava but I grow in containers and fabric pots (herbs) so i DESPISE watering heavy these my two trees twice a week my dogs get muddy feet everywhere

I have one Hawaiian guava. It had 10 buds last year, then they all just dropped, not even bloomed. Same thing happen to my tropical guava purchased from lowes. Any idea on why? More strangely, that Hawaiian guava only had bloom for once, it stay quiet for the rest of last year. This year I will try the MG bloom booster you mentioned to induce some blooms. My guava tree never have so many blooms like yours. I envy your tree and harvest.
Just reply back here. I had used MG bloom booster for 3 - 4 times for about 4 weeks, if that Haiwaiian guava. Now I see a lot of buds now, not all new branches, but 2/3 of those. I would say more than I get last year without using MG. Last year I got 10 bids but all of them don’t open and dried out. So cross my finger and hope all new buds bloom and form fruits. Now I go back to organic fertilizer. Just did MG protocol suggested in the video. I will try this on another tropical pink guava and a Taiwanese white guava, and see if also make difference.
Loved this video!! I like in lathrop ca. I'd love to grow mangos guava, jamun or Java plum tropical fruits. Yours are looking amazing. Thanks so much for this video. I am very hopeful to find some guava trees I can plant.
How big does the fruit grow. I'm in Arizona since 2019 I brought my tree last year it was yielding fruit but got under watered but I know better now. So fruit is yeliding good this year im giving it plenty of water, I also. Didn't know it needed to be fertilized once a month so I'm on top of that I fertilized last month. Yes I have lots of leaves so maybe I will try what you recommended. I'm determined to taste this fresh fruit for the first time this year later. I will give you a follow and a like thanks.
Hi. Thank you for the video. I too have a small tree, it used to give flowers and they used to burn and wither but this year it started fruits. I had heard that we should avoid fertilizing once the fruit is set. Is that true for guava? Can I use fertilizer when the fruit is set?
Hi Keven its planted up against the south side of the house. Between my house and my neighbors . It gets full sun, especially now that it is taller than the house. Yes, when first planted , in winter, when the sun was low, it didnt get full sun, but as is the case with most tropical fruit trees, being understory plants that eventually shot up into full sun!
@@TropicalGardenGuy Wow so even though it was in shade, it was able to shoot up. Do you remember if its fruits were not good when it was young and not in the sun? I have just planted a 3ft tall Malaysian red guava on a north-east facing wall that gets 4 hrs of full sun in the summer and 0 hrs of full sun in the winter. Hoping it will still grow so that it can capture more sun.
Most tropical fruit trees are understory trees that grow into the sun. I plant most of my trees as understory plants and allow them to grow into full sun.
Ive done it. If its healthy it should do fine. May need a little shade at first. But here in Modesto I wouldn’t shade it and we are in upper 90’s to 105f everyday now
None of my guavas are blooming yet. I would love to get a clone of your tree seeing how early it gets going. Maybe you are willing to airlayer one for me. I have lots of plants I could trade. I got some exceptional guava varieties like my nearly seedless lua ranch and my jumbo pink Beaumont sport.
