Tuna fishing in the Caribbean Sea - Amazonas Ship

The Caribbean region has a wide variety of fish species roaming in the Atlantic and the Caribbean sea, and the Dominican Republic happens to be in the middle of both oceans, providing a vantage point for sports fishermen. Sosua and Puerto Plata are located right on the Atlantic, which has top species such as the Blue Marlin, Yellow Fin Tuna, Mahi Mahi ( locally called Dorado ), Wahoo ( called Carite ), White Marlin, and Sailfish. Other species such as the red snapper, grouper, Jackfish, Barracuda, and Lion fish, add to the list ( it is longer than we can post here.
The three tropical tuna species (bigeye, yellowfin, and skipjack) are also found in the offshore areas of the Caribbean. However, open-water pelagic fish such as tuna are scarce on the Caribbean side. That’s why there’s very little commercial tuna fishing in this area, although there is some sports fishing.
