Honestly the entire Josie & the Pussycats album (including the DuJour) songs is one of my favorites! I can listen to the whole thing straight through. Very infectious.
I was obsessed with that movie and its songs when it came out, I was very much the target audience lmao (I was 14ish and obsessed with pop music and trying to be cool hahah)
"Pop! Goes My Heart" is just an honorable mention? Travesty! Come on, it's perfection. Definitely deserved to be in the Top 10 (with a mention of the terrific "Way Back into Love"). Also, where is the Oscar-winning "Falling Slowly?" It's stunning and should have made the list.
Agree. "Pop! There Goes My Heart", "That Thing You Do" and "Pretend to be Nice" are the top three. Those the only ones that like actual real world #1 singles.

A Star is Born has been made FOUR times (5 if you count the TV adaptation). The original with Janet Gaynor and Frederick March in 1937, the 1954 remake with Judy Garland and James Mason, the 1976 version with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson, and the 2018 film with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. The TV adaptation aired in 1951 and starred Kathleen Crowley and Conrad Nagel.

The fact that 'That Thing You Do!' only got an honorable mention when it was the impetus for the entire movie AND was played multiple times in the movie is criminal! CRIMINAL!!!!!
My Hometown from EuroVision was the first song that popped into my mind when the list was announced. I’m sad it didn’t make the official list but was delighted to see Stand Out from A Goofy Movie! Great list
I actually prefer Way Back Into love... without the sticky and steamy indian intro obviously 😅 But Don't Write me Off Yet is really cute... But then there's come dance with me tonight and of course, welcome to booty town 😂 So actually the whole soundtrack is pretty good.
“Take Me Away” was actually a song released two years before Freaky Friday by an Australian band, Lash. So as an Aussie, when I first saw that scene, I thought “Hey, I know this song!”
@@saemikneu meh, a band that released one album over 7 years and split nearly 20 years ago is hardly relevant enough to be so dramatic about. If you do 90% of your work correct, then 10% incorrect, are you a compete idiot? The people coming for you would be that over nothing. It took me 3 links from the soundtrack to find it out, so not difficult, but also not as obvious as any musician would make it. They were incorrect but you are a little too dramatic, they're still doing better than you just because they don't know who a defunct band is.
That Thing You Do deserves to be on the actual list way more than half of the top-10. Somebody Kill Me from Wedding Singer should’ve at least been an honorable mention.
I can't believe Scotty Doesn't Know is only #10! Easily one of my favorite songs, not just favorite fake song. On a side note, there is a good one you missed from a somewhat obscure movie called Adam & Steve. The song comes up near the end called "Sh!t Happens", which is basically a country line dance sung by a drag queen about one of the main plot points of the story. Another great missed one id from the Eddie & The Cruisers movie, called On The Dark Side.
Aslong as the drag queen is there to be made into a joke and as a way to ridicule the LGBTQ cult and not a way to indoctrinate children with the woke agenda.
Please do a second list! This is fun 😁 Thanks! 1. "Sugarhigh" from Empire Records. 2. "Come On" from 10 Things I Hate About You😊 3. "U + Me = Us" from MTV mock show 2gether 4. "Let's Go to the Mall" from How I Met Your Mother
Other honorable mentions "The Zing Song" - "Hotel Transylvania" (2012) "BBC" - "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery" (1997) "Good Tonight" - "The Bad Guys" (2022) "Peaches" - "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" (2023) "Everything is Awesome" - "The LEGO Movie" Franchise (2014-) "Who is Your Favorite Fearless Hero?" - "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" (2022) "Nobody Like U" - "Turning Red" (2022)
I'm sorry, how are we defining "fake songs" here? "Shallow" was a real hit. It was nominated for an Oscar for "Best Song." It spent almost a full year on the Billboard Hot 100 chart! It's a brilliant song and both Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper give a jaw-dropping performance on that track. It's as real as it gets so having it be #1 on this list feels.....dumb? Also: every song in "Josie and the Pussycats" is a banger.
@@LaynaCastro maybe so! But my point stands - it's not clear so here we all are down in the comments trying to parse why this song was on the list but not that one. It would just be helpful if they would clearly define what criteria they are using when they establish their lists. Or maybe they don't want to because it keeps us all doing exactly what we're doing - chatting in the comments trying to guess what they mean LOL. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Husavik deserves more than an honorable mention. Guarantee it's only there because of Will Ferrell, but the song is actually well composed and Molly Sanden has a phenomenal voice. An actual good use of the honorable mention would have been for the Dracula musical song from Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
Yes, i heard not so great things about that movie before watching it but the song at the end actually makes it for me. A song that somehow makes me weirdly nostalgic and homesick for a place I have never lived 😂
I can't believe there were no songs from This Is Spinal Tap or A Mighty Wind or The Ruttles! Almost every song in those three movies deserves to be on this list!
This. Yes! This is the worst video of "Top 10" fake movie songs since it doesn't include Spinal Tap at all, and somehow Freaky Friday and Lizzie McGuire were on the list and That Thing You Do was only an honorable mention.
Another contender: "Forgettful Lucy" from 50 First Dates. Adam Sandler's improv, singing, and rom com roles are highly underrated. Also, "Never Enough" from "Greatest Showman"
Haha I actually had “Grow Old With You” from The Wedding Singer in my head during this whole video. He definitely deserves an honorable mention somewhere!
@@MsSteelphoenix But it's also the only song in the movie that is preformed as a song within the movie. You know? All of the other songs happen where dialogue could have worked just as well, but she performs that song on stage. It's a song in the movie, as well as in the musical medium.
@@IzzyKawaiichi I think this is another example of why they need to better define what they mean by "fake songs." Like "Backdoor Lover" and "Pretend to be Nice" from Josie and the Pussycats are treated like huge pop hits within the world of the movie but were not released as actual "radio play" singles in the real world. That tracks for me as a "fake song." But songs from musicals don't feel the same for me in that the songs are the point of the entire show/movie. Like not a single song here from a Disney musical, right? I realize that "Shallow" kind of fits my former definition, however given that it was intended to be released as a single from the jump (and was, and did well) that moves it out of "fake song" territory for me.
@@IzzyKawaiichi the concept of the video is songs that are not real songs, not original movie soundtracks, you are misinterpreting it, greatest showman songs were released, it is the same as choosing let it go, that would be just as dumb.
You forgot one of the most iconic 80s ones. "St. Elmo's Fire" from St. Elmo's Fire sung in the movie by John Parr. The song was such a hit because of the movie that it went to #1 on US Billboard charts.
The thing that makes That Thing You Do so genius is how,in addition to being extremely catchy,it perfectly replicates the syle of The Beatles' early days. I could totally have believed that they'd written it.
4:33 Actually, Take Me Away is a real song. The original version by Australian band Lash was released in 2001. It charted at number 33 on the ARIA charts and was even nominated for Best Breakthrough Single at the 2001 ARIA awards.
I’m pretty sure “Ultraviolet” was created for Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, and if so that song should be on this list. I also saw someone else in the comments say “Can’t Fight the Moonlight” from Coyote Ugly, and I wholeheartedly agree with that, too.
"That Thing You Do" was so well done that when the movie came out I went to the CD department to get the soundtrack and was looking under the "W" section for the Wonders because they seemed like a real band. Great movie and soundtrack. Sing Street is great too.
"Scotty Doesn't Know" is just the start of the wonderfully fun film that is "Eurotrip." It's got a ton of hilarious moments. People are missing out by not watching it.
Shallow is not a fake song. It's a real song played by a real musical artist okaying a character in a movie. If you include then you need to add several songs from Whitney Houston's The Bodyguard movie, Mariah Carey's Glitter, or Barbra Streisand's A Star Is Born.
it gives me the impression they are planning a part 2 and already have them aside but people usually refuse to understand common sense and rush to feeling superior with passive agression.
I want to hear ja ja ding dong again after hearing this list. EuroVision had some many great songs, I had to buy the soundtrack. Popstar soundtrack works as an additional Lonely Island album. Thanks for the list. Reminded me of some great songs both on and off the list!
Who put this list together? I remember “Pop goes my heart” was #1 in Apple downloads when it first came out and “That thing you do” was in radio for a while. I think Josie and the Pussycats film is more remembered for “3 small words” over “Pretend to be nice”. Shallow definitely deserves to be #1 though. 🎶
What about anything from Lemonade Mouth...people legitimately thought they were a real band and the music from that movie hit the charts. Tonight Is What It Means To Be Young from Streets of Fire should have been in there, too.
Pop Goes My Heart is the best. I still laugh over the time my friends and I went to a restaurant after we saw the movie and we stood in the parking lot doing the dance before we went in…and didn’t notice that we were in front of the restaurant’s windows full of diners staring at us. We didn’t even care - we just laughed harder. I love that movie and video! Oh: “On the Dark Side” from Eddie and the Cruisers was pretty great too.
While it may not be as well known, I love "Falling Slowly" from "Once." (Unless Glen Hansford & Marketa Inglova, or the Frames recorded it first, before it was used in the movie). It's a beautiful song with a lovely harmony.
One of the best movies I've ever seen - hands down. All of the songs are incredible. It's Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova - I'm thinking this was a voice to text post. 🙂
@@Speed-Of-Light-By-Meter LOL thank you for the corrections. Not voice-to-text, probably just a tired mind, not great memory and possibly just crap at typing! 😁
Yeah, I find it incredibly boring & could NOT understand why it was played on the radio as much as it was. I'm not the only one I know who thought that.
I really liked "Never Enough" in The Greatest Showman as performed by Loren Allred. The song was portrayed to be performed by historical singer Jenny Lind (played by Rebecca Ferguson).
@@LoudLilDucky:so were a lot of the other songs that got mentioned none of them are fake songs and alot of them existed before they were in certain movies. The only fake song is most likely shallow in a star is born
I'm surprised The Archies, "Sugar, Sugar," didn't make the list! That's my top song from a fake band, as that song hit #1 on the U.S. Billboard Top 100, as well as 3 other songs making it on there as well.
Music & Lyrics is a great movie! Loved the music from that too, but LOVED Way back into love, especially the performance of it at the end of the movie.
Lady Gaga's A Star is Born is actually the fourth one. The first was in 1937 with Janet Gaynor. The second was in 1954 with Judy Garland. The third was 1976 with Barbra Streisand, and then 2018 with Lady Gaga. Hellacious Acres in the 1976 movie sung by Kris Kristofferson is my favorite fake song in a movie.
Yes! The 4th version, the 3rd remake. I remember watching the Kris Kristofferson and Barbara Streisand movie as a kid I love Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's version. Also .....Sam Elliott. You can't go wrong with Sam Elliott in a movie.
Actually, 1937 is the first, Robert Montgomery presents- "A Star is Born" the tv movie version - 1951, Judy Garland version - 1954, Streisand/Kristofferson - 1976, Cooper/Gaga - 2018. So that's 4 remakes. It works, right? I'm sure there will be others, but how a bout flippin it...make the chick the has been, and the guy the young talent, up and coming? Now that, I'd like to see!
@sheamariesmith2012 Isn't there five versions, with a version with Mariah Carey being between the Streisand/Kristofferson and Lady Gaga/Bradley Cooper one? "Glitter"?
Way back into love from music and lyrics and husavic from Eurovision are some of the most beautiful songs that came from movies that I've ever heard. Gave me goosebumps

So actually the whole soundtrack is pretty good.
@@JD86Vintage not to forget the first try of recording way back into love 😉 „this song is intended for human ears“ 🤣
@@JD86Vintagecompletely agree!! The music is all so good in that movie!!
“Take Me Away” was actually a song released two years before Freaky Friday by an Australian band, Lash.
So as an Aussie, when I first saw that scene, I thought “Hey, I know this song!”
Was about to write this too.
see how bad they do their research?
@@saemikneu meh, a band that released one album over 7 years and split nearly 20 years ago is hardly relevant enough to be so dramatic about. If you do 90% of your work correct, then 10% incorrect, are you a compete idiot? The people coming for you would be that over nothing. It took me 3 links from the soundtrack to find it out, so not difficult, but also not as obvious as any musician would make it. They were incorrect but you are a little too dramatic, they're still doing better than you just because they don't know who a defunct band is.
was just about to put 'im pretty sure the freaky Friday song is a cover of a real song' and at least 2 people beat me to it
Then it’s disqualified
That Thing You Do deserves to be on the actual list way more than half of the top-10. Somebody Kill Me from Wedding Singer should’ve at least been an honorable mention.
I can't believe Scotty Doesn't Know is only #10! Easily one of my favorite songs, not just favorite fake song.
On a side note, there is a good one you missed from a somewhat obscure movie called Adam & Steve. The song comes up near the end called "Sh!t Happens", which is basically a country line dance sung by a drag queen about one of the main plot points of the story.
Another great missed one id from the Eddie & The Cruisers movie, called On The Dark Side.
true
Aslong as the drag queen is there to be made into a joke and as a way to ridicule the LGBTQ cult and not a way to indoctrinate children with the woke agenda.
Please do a second list! This is fun 😁 Thanks!
1. "Sugarhigh" from Empire Records.
2. "Come On" from 10 Things I Hate About You😊
3. "U + Me = Us" from MTV mock show 2gether
4. "Let's Go to the Mall" from How I Met Your Mother
Love “Sugar High”!
Scrolled through the comments to find a "Sugar High" reference. Damn the man!
LET's GO the the Mall EVERYBODY!!!
I was waiting for Empire Records!
focus word: movie. How would they be in a part 2? They would be in a different video.
How was "That Thing You Do" only an honorable mention?!? That entire soundtrack was fantastic!
Other honorable mentions
"The Zing Song" - "Hotel Transylvania" (2012)
"BBC" - "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery" (1997)
"Good Tonight" - "The Bad Guys" (2022)
"Peaches" - "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" (2023)
"Everything is Awesome" - "The LEGO Movie" Franchise (2014-)
"Who is Your Favorite Fearless Hero?" - "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" (2022)
"Nobody Like U" - "Turning Red" (2022)
Yes!!!
peaches is my ringtone 😂
I think though those don’t count as ‘fake songs’, they are just songs played during the films.
MISSUS.... WILL YA.....
@@johnbiggscr Everything is Awesome I think could count, because it's heard on the radio in the movie.
I think they mean original songs. Made FOR the movies
I think a "fake song" is an original song produced for a movie, and performed by a fake band in the movie.
Dewey Cox sitting in the background like, "Am I a joke to you?"
As a huge Eurovision fan I totally agree, I personally think it would have done really well at the actual Eurovision (if it was under 3 minutes).
The way I just screamed‼️ “Pretend to be nice” and “3 small words” from Josie and the Pussycats are literally on my playlist 😂❤

Don't forget "BackdoorLover" by Du Jour...

I love the whole soundtrack!!!!
Fever Dog was written by Nancy Wilson and Peter Frampton. Mike McCready of Pearl Jam played lead guitar. Marti Frederikson provided vocals
Anyone else have no clue Haley Duff sang Isabella’s part in Lizzie? Mind blown. At 30, I can still proudly sing every single word.
What??? Everybody knows It... Even my Indian ass from India knows it when it first came out 😂
My name is also Carly and I'm 33 and had NO IDEA! I have to re watch it again 😍
I found out like over a year ago & i'm about to be 33🤯
Husavik is SO underrated. It's such a beautiful song. Gives me goosebumps every time ❤
Yes, i heard not so great things about that movie before watching it but the song at the end actually makes it for me. A song that somehow makes me weirdly nostalgic and homesick for a place I have never lived 😂

I can't believe there were no songs from This Is Spinal Tap or A Mighty Wind or The Ruttles! Almost every song in those three movies deserves to be on this list!
Big bottom
Talk about bum cakes, my girl's got 'em
This. Yes! This is the worst video of "Top 10" fake movie songs since it doesn't include Spinal Tap at all, and somehow Freaky Friday and Lizzie McGuire were on the list and That Thing You Do was only an honorable mention.
What about OH Brother where art thou?
@@JohnCalk True!
Not sure 'Greatest Showman' counts - it's a musical, so none of the songs are fake!
It's not a movie, but I've been obsessed with the entire Aurora album from Daisy Jones and the Six since it came out.

There were so many good songs in that movie, and the movie itself is on my top 10.
@@FantasyremixI actually said to myself while watching that if it wasn’t number one I’d riot. So now I riot.
I think they did an honorable mention for it just so they wouldn’t do have anymore songs with numbers and explanations in the video
Same
You forgot one of the most iconic 80s ones. "St. Elmo's Fire" from St. Elmo's Fire sung in the movie by John Parr. The song was such a hit because of the movie that it went to #1 on US Billboard charts.
Songs that were in movies aren't the same as "fake songs"
The thing that makes That Thing You Do so genius is how,in addition to being extremely catchy,it perfectly replicates the syle of The Beatles' early days. I could totally have believed that they'd written it.
How can Eddie and the Cruisers not make the list? On the Dark Side was a huge hit and the entire album is gold.
Agreed I burned out three cassets
Absolutely agree!!! I adore Eddie & the Cruisers and both soundtracks are 🔥. I actually listen to them on the daily.
Agreed. It was the first one I thought of.
I was thinking the same thing.
💯💯could not agree more!!!
I love all of the songs Keira Knightley sings in Begin again, I feel like it deserved at least an honorable mention?
4:33 Actually, Take Me Away is a real song. The original version by Australian band Lash was released in 2001. It charted at number 33 on the ARIA charts and was even nominated for Best Breakthrough Single at the 2001 ARIA awards.
"That Thing You Do" was robbed from being included. Brilliant song.
The entire soundtrack to "Josie and the Pussycats" is absolutely legendary.
That Thing You Do should’ve been number 1. That entire album is perfection

Streets of Fire, A Rock and Roll Fable. Several songs written for movie.
I said Ultraviolet too
I was looking for that one
That song has been around before that movie. Singer Joanna Pacitti sang it on Amanda Byne's sitcom What I Like About You.
Can't Fight the Moonlight is Piper Perabo lip syncing to LeAnn Rimes though

I think That Thing You Do should have been the top choice. It would have definitely been a MASSIVE hit if it had been released in the 1960s.
I would had added "City of Stars" from Lalaland and "I'm Just Ken" from the Barbie movie. Ryan Gosling is just great for making music :)
I'm Just Ken has lived rent free in my head since I saw the movie...its so damn catchy.
I feel like those don't count. They're not songs that exist in their respective movie worlds.
I’m really surprised all the songs from zenon aren’t on this list! Protozoa baby!
The songs from Music and Lyrics are FIRE. Pure 80s flashback genius.
While it may not be as well known, I love "Falling Slowly" from "Once." (Unless Glen Hansford & Marketa Inglova, or the Frames recorded it first, before it was used in the movie). It's a beautiful song with a lovely harmony.
100% agree. It should've been on the list!
One of the best movies I've ever seen - hands down. All of the songs are incredible. It's Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova - I'm thinking this was a voice to text post. 🙂

"Shallow" is definitely the best in universe song, and the best part of _A Star is Born._ and personally, I think it's one of Lady Gaga's best.
Isn't it out there as an actual song? I could've sworn I saw it looking for Lady Gaga songs here in RUclips.
