This is going to sell out instantly. Something new and innovative in the multi tool world that is actually affordable and easily customizable. Game changer.
I think the best part is that they're also doing everything open source. Obviously they're going to be selling a bunch of implements but being able to mill out whatever tool you need is going to be amazing.
No kidding. Knife enthusiasts can easily order from a knife maker a Magnacut or S90V blade to fit in this. Leatherman and their soft propriety bits should be worried!
This really feels like it's going to change the game, I don't see much point (personally) in getting a wave or equivalent with a fixed tool-set over this.
@@andrewfett142 furthermore, I feel like this is proof that goat changed the game. Brands are already trying to compete with goat tools in this brand new category of tools. I don't, however, think modular multitools will completely revolutionize the market the same way leatherman did. As we have seen, modular multitools are a major engineering challenge and the concept carries more compromises than I think people expected. Personally I doubt I'll change my carry to a modular multitool, as my priorities are more about sturdiness and quality tools over having one tool with exactly what I need, but I might buy this tool if it won't cost too much. Also I have the means to mod my tools so an inherently modular tool loses its luster even more on me.
Maybe one reason Roxon limited the long tools to one per handle is because the second long tool on the far side of the deploy button would not deploy very well or at all when using the deploy button. The long tools have heavier detents to counteract the greater tendency to unintentionally swing open due to the greater mass. Also, the long tools tend to have sharp edges (blades, saw) so heavier detents are required for safety. So, maybe we can rely on fingernail nicks at the tips of all 4 long tools rather than the deploy button. But having just 2 long tools is very limiting, IMHO.
15:23 With a small leather pouch you could EASILY carry a dozen!!! extra tools and swap as needed, depending on the task!!! .. THIS is going to be awesome I am definitely getting one! :)
Definitely would be interested in an in-depth look at what "single handle" configurations (à la the Multi Force knife mod) are possible with this platform. Also the HRC and composition of the implements.
The big questions for me are "what tools will it come with?" (as in will it come with the full set of interchangeable tools in the box) and "What is the release date?" I wanna see it stress tested a bit to see how these mechanisms hold up to extended use and if that leads to any issues in the long term as well. It looks incredibly promising, especially for the price and what it's potentially offering, but I wanna know if this thing actually holds up to use as a tool, or if it's just a fiddly gimmick.
I have a Roxon phantom and already like the interchangeable blade design and actually I bought quote number of extra blades including the utility knife which I put most of the time in the Phantom. The way Flash did is more friendly and easy. I will buy buy really want Roxon to sell a storage system to keep those extra tools properly. You know in the Phantom, every extra blade has its dedicated plastic box which looks good but waste a lot of space if you want to carry all!
I enjoy my Phantom, and I too use the utility knife almost exclusively. This early model is reminiscent of the Phantom deployment nib, and oddly, I think I may prefer my Phantom to this design. Of course, it all depends on the tools available, but my Phantom has big scissors and the knife deploys with 1 hand.
12:14 They really should have the Diamond File on the BACK of the regular file instead of a tiny ruler (even if it was an expensive but separate option) I mean TAKE advantage f the "Flex Modular" foundation! ... At least one other multitool has the two-in -one, file feature.
It will seem to make personal modding easier: either taking an existing tool and modifying it, or using a "blank", which they may eventually sell: one end has the correct profile to fit into the Flex, and the other end is literally a blank end, which could be modified by the buyer. Some enterprising Etsy sellers may eventually offer their own blanks for sale, in various steels.
I WANT IT, NOW ! ^^ i ask Roxon when they release it and maybe about may :-( tooooo loooooong for me ^^ Finally someone create an tool like this. For me it is the ultimate killer for Leatherman,Gerber,SOG, a.s.o.
It would be nice if they had an option to include their fuller size fold-out scissor design, for which Roxon is famous. It's one of the main reasons I carry the KS2 and the M2. If Roxon is ambitious enough, a pen and small emergency LED light would be nice options as well, helping to consolidate my EDC carry.
@Ludosza your response is confusing, and is indicative that you are not familiar with or do not own Roxon tools. I own multiple Roxon tools. They have a foldout scissor design that is superior and larger than other scissor types. It does not interfere with the pliers in any way. The Roxon M2 that I own, one of multiple Roxon pliers-based multitools, has the pliers and the foldout scissors. I would suggest you go and look at these models more closely or watch some of Maxlvledc's in-depth videos covering various Roxon tools, in order to better understand my comment.
@Ludosza the scissors on the M2 would easily fit into the Flex handle with no asymmetry. The only downside is that you can't fit as many tools on that side of the handle. As you can see from the KS2 and the M2 and M3, you can only fit one other tool. In the KS2, it's the blade, and with the M2, it's the pliers head. However, if you don't mind sacrificing a few tools, those type of scissors are fine. Because the design is modular, everyone can make their own decision as to whether or not to include them.
Impressive design, they do need to reduce the very heavy rounding of tool edges tho'.. The plier head is obviously pre-production. I hope they add a crimp function to the inside 👍
5:19 This looks ideal to cut off and modify & heat treat (if necessary) to use as a #2 (red) Robertson screwdriver!! That is the most popular screw I come across in my daily routine. I would love to see a digital caliper reading of the exact square size i t is!! :)
For the basic package, the implements which came with the MT on this video is a good combo of implements for a starter package for $80. From there, extra implements can be purchased at extra cost.
Im super impressed with the idea and design of it. Will it ship with any of the additional pieces you had in the video as a package, or will they all be supplemental purchases? Thanks!
Would love too see if there is a cross compatibility between roxon and goat! Or perhaps if we can steal parts from other tools with the help of a dremel....
Roxon have hit a home run there, can’t wait to get my hands on one, looks like it wouldn’t be too hard to create your own tools, and biggest plus point you can choose to not include the most useless yet prolific item on edc gear, yeet the cap lifter, it’s the one tool I hate to see on anything
If you replace the scissors, could you get a extra small tool in it, since the scissors are extra wide? I am excited that the file is decent. It only has to knock off sharp edges on plastic and wood for me. Is the saw good? For $80, then maybe up to $120 for the extra tools, this is definitely a great buy. Make sure you have this in your recommendations and you will get some kick back money from this. 😀 I also use the Leatherman flat driver for small prying or to clear a joint, so a actual flat driver is important to me.
Having only 2 long implements is a bit of a disappointment. Would Roxon be open to having a wider plier base that can accommodate 2 additional long implements? People like me would much prefer that option.
How will it perform in the field? Eg :dusty muddy n wet environments.will the mechanism jam? Are the tools less durable when torqued since there are additional cut outs for interchangeablility. Thank you!
Website states it will come with no factory installed tools and that there are no minimum tools required. Does this mean it will ship with spacers? Many thanks!
I might have missed this. Does Roxon have a way for us to plan ahead for fitting tools of different thickness together? You touched on it already. If we can know for sure "tool A + B + C will fit in side-by-side smoothly", or "A + B + D will not", that would be great.
From a modding perspective, I'm kinda curious if the "long implements", and maybe a spacer or whatever they have on that side, could be removed entirely to make the whole thing slimmer? It sorta looks like that side is the side where it's wider. Cool looking tool though. A Powerpint size one would really appeal to me.
This is an amazing tool. Does anyone else have the S802 Phantom and think its one of the best multi tools out there and an insane price? Especially if you prefer bigger scissors it’s a beast! Not sure why it’s not talked about more?
I am enthousiastic about this tool but i'm missing two important tools in the video's you have shown from it; - A 1/4 bit driver, if it is too wide for the design at least something like a flat screwdriver with a hex cutout so you can at least use 1/4 bits in a pinch - A T-shank holder for saws and files I think offering the possibility to use industry standard bits and saws is a must for a modular multitool.
So innovative! Just when I thought MT design had reached its limit. Roxon has a great MT engineer working for them. And $80 is a steal for this design. I would love to see the long tool slot made wider to hold more long tools, even if the MT becomes bigger, heavier, and costlier overall. One small criticism is that some of the implements appear to have overly rounded edges, which can cause the implement to slip, such as the flat blade screwdriver tips. Also need a 4mm bit driver which does not need a separate adapter and can hold a double-ended bit while the bit holder is folded inside the handle of the MT.
If it comes in black oxide coating to prevent internal rust, I'll buy that in a heartbeat. Just wish it had a straight profile to incorporate a full length ruler instead of a file/ruler tool.
Like the design but I wish there were more multitools with non-locking blades. Locking blades are illegal in the UK (don't get me started) so I'd have to see if it can be altered to close easily but not too easily and still hold the blade.
Dom, it would help to get the full tool dimensions, plus a comparison of the individual small/large tool lengths with the Wave. (It’s a bummer that it only has 2 long tools, but the short tools look like they might be longer.) I like the fact that the overall tool is a bit longer than the wave, which makes the weight more balanced and less brick-like when in the pocket. Overall, really impressive design!
I'd be interested to see how light it could get for travel/hiking. Maybe they could have lightweight spacers to remove unneeded tools for those situations? In a similar vein, some tweezers would be nice. Does this have a release date? Also interested in your callipers, they look solid.
What I really would like to have at the same time in the tool: Premium steel plain blade Scissors Diamond file Screwdrivers Bottle opener Pen (!!!!) Scalpel holder T-shank saw holder Ruler Tweezers
Will there be a 1/4" bit driver? (not a fan of carrying the whole kit that came with my storm/801) Are there plans for one-handed access to the main blade?
Am curious, does the can opener work well, or more gimmick like Leatherman's Free series tools? Am assuming it's a push type can opener? Myself, I do use a can opener quite frequently. Bottle openers not so much.
a bit different than CASE where you half open the blade then depress the lock to change the blade be interesting to see how the NEW ROXON works out in the long term some of the improvements are interesting
Looks great, especially that customization 👍 I am curious about quality...and if the quality will not be good, so hope that it at least start this customization in other companies 😄
I definitely want to see you use that sharpening tool. Of course after you get a chance to use one of the blades enough, lol. It would be amazing if it could sharpen the scissors!
Would you recommend this as my wives first big multitool or stick with a leatherman signal? She likes the hammer but isn't really an outdoors person, though. She does have a hard time getting small tools out...
I really hope this turns into a market-wide trend. I'd love to see every company having a modular version or two. Here's hoping Vixtorinox takes notice. :-)
Max, this is a good iteration for Roxon. I like the standard toolset more than the GOAT but I really like my GOAT despite the wire cutters. I like they did something different and went for an original product. I think it has a lot of potential and I'm very impressed with their first iteration and my purchase. I hope they expand their add on tool selection. I'm not keen on their selection as of right now but it's a good start. I like the feel of the GOAT, the "industry look", a prototype yet refined and I think it's a good light to medium duty multitool. This Roxon is somewhat appealing but I'm more curious to see where it goes after its release and into the hands of users. The durability, the longevity and more add on tools in the future like the GOAT. I hope they both succeed and I'm and stubborn Leatherman lover.
One other thing, given how modular this tool is, it would be cool if Roxon developed something akin to the Gerber armbar (or your multiforce mod), so that you have a customizable tool set/holder/pocket knife alternative without pliers.
Looks to be a very good option for people living in non knife-friendly areas. The two handed opening blade as well as the option to go bladeless is perfect for European (sadly)
Are the long tools same thickness as the inside small tools? If so I was thinking one could cut down the length of an outside tool like a serrated blade to put inside.
Are you going to have your Flex laser etched to add some aesthetic detail? Perhaps you could have your logo etched across the entire tool in a honeycomb tessellation pattern.
I was stoked about the possibility to choose your toolset. Not convinced that you would want to change them out very often. What's the point of quick release anyway? Just make them changeable and available, use regular torx screws. That's what I've been waiting for.
I pretty much agree. We all have our preferences and our individual ways of using tools. I think you'd basically set it up once and then just enjoy your personalized tool.
When I thought I’d narrow it down to getting the Leatherman Arc, then I see this. Any other multiples you wanna throw in the running to make the choices harder lol. With it being open source may model and print some spacers of different thicknesses.
As someone who owns and genuinely likes the Arc imo if you want multitool that is able to replace a dedicated blade the arc is great , if you are a steel geek and don't own magnacut and you want a multitool, again the arc is great. If you want a an easy to use one handed tool the arc is it , and if you want something that can be passed down(40 year warranty, the arc is good) . But if those things don't matter, this tool looks great , and it being opened sourced is great. I can't wait to see what implements are going to be made for it .
@@rickyricardo3551 so far biggest priorities are one handed opening, a good blade, good pliers, and easy access tools. 90% of the time I need a multi tool I’m already holding something or just need it for a quick moment. Or using pliers to remove 3D printed supports.
It would be cool to file the scalpel blade holder tip a bit at the top, niteize doohickey style, so that you can use it as a rudimentary package opener if there's no blade attached.
13:46 .. I've been to many shows and conventions of different types .. and it IS kind of a blur! .. So many exciting the new things!! So nobody would expect you to remember every detail .. You never know too the individual tool at the Show might not have been "broken in" and slick as the one you you're testing now. :)
My only question that comes to mind is just about the availability of the tools. Are they bought individually or as sets? That kind of thing. (Haven't done any research myself so really don't know)
Do you know if they plan on a bit driver tool so you don’t have to use the adapter? On any Multitool I’ve used the swappable bits were one of my most used tools
That's a Messograf caliper pen by Cleo, and that might already help you find a local store that has it. Otherwise you should be able to order it straight from the manufacturer. It's good in a pinch, but I wouldn't recommend it as a substitute of a good set of calipers if you need really precise results.

This was always possible to be honest. People have been making customs tools for SAK & Leather man since forever.
Thx for the early preview. Kudos to ROXON for allowing one in the wild for review. 🔥 Added to my watchlist.

Are there plans for one-handed access to the main blade?
I think the easiest way to make the blade "one handed" would be the same they did with Spirit MX

The durability, the longevity and more add on tools in the future like the GOAT. I hope they both succeed and I'm and stubborn Leatherman lover.
I would also like to see a version with long tool slots, like the Leatherman P2 and P4. Roxon Flex +??
If this multitool will be under 100$, good quality and have wide range of changed tools, Roxon just will steal market
I kind of wish it was made thicker just to fit 2 more longer implements. They probably didn't just to reduce weight and bulk.
Nice concept, not sure if i like the fact the the locking/deployment is only on one side. Does not seem very one handed accessible.
One other thing, given how modular this tool is, it would be cool if Roxon developed something akin to the Gerber armbar (or your multiforce mod), so that you have a customizable tool set/holder/pocket knife alternative without pliers.
this looks really promising. their current swappable tools seem a bit basic, but I'm hoping 3rd party makers will really spice things up
And how about a video about alternatives to the RMJ "Stabby guy" not easy to get here in Europe.
Groundbreaking! I hope the production tool is as good as this seems to be.
I've been looking for the perfect big multitool for my wife. She's always stealing my wave!
Will Roxon supply a "one hand opening blade"?? Thank you
Not at release, but eventually.
Are you going to have your Flex laser etched to add some aesthetic detail? Perhaps you could have your logo etched across the entire tool in a honeycomb tessellation pattern.
Nah. If anything I want to drill holes for weight saving
Good point!
For $80…. Get a couple of them and configure them for different applications.
This is amazing, my next for sure
Now, this I want and I haven't said to more then 2 other big multi tools.
Sorry if I missed this but will there be a bit driver option?
Awesome! Missed the premiere due to a work meeting, but glad I went back to watch. Very cool. Thanks Dom
It would be cool to file the scalpel blade holder tip a bit at the top, niteize doohickey style, so that you can use it as a rudimentary package opener if there's no blade attached.
Clever!
13:46 .. I've been to many shows and conventions of different types .. and it IS kind of a blur! .. So many exciting the new things!! So nobody would expect you to remember every detail ..
You never know too the individual tool at the Show might not have been "broken in" and slick as the one you you're testing now. :)
4 large tools would be great!
My only question that comes to mind is just about the availability of the tools. Are they bought individually or as sets? That kind of thing. (Haven't done any research myself so really don't know)
Does the cutters off the Leathermen fit on that if they don't carry any extra cutters?
Do you know if they plan on a bit driver tool so you don’t have to use the adapter? On any Multitool I’ve used the swappable bits were one of my most used tools
Those calipers are awesome. I’ve never seen them before. Can you maybe tell me where you got them?
That's a Messograf caliper pen by Cleo, and that might already help you find a local store that has it. Otherwise you should be able to order it straight from the manufacturer. It's good in a pinch, but I wouldn't recommend it as a substitute of a good set of calipers if you need really precise results.
This looks so fucking good, can't wait.
