Finally a demo video that actually shows a full and complete demo... without jumping all over the place!!! Easy to follow.... and informative. Wish I could say the same for MOST of the other "video" production demos!!!

Oh wow!!!! I do not feel very smart at all! Thank you for sharing your experience. I have owned my Z5u for a many years now and I have always been frustrated that I had to set record on those items separately. So frustrated that I was thinking of selling my camera and saving up for a Fs7 mark II or FS5. Looks like that is no longer necessary. The 4k would still be nice. We'll see... buuut for now, I am not as stressed about it. Thank you, thank you thank you... Have a nice day.....

I still shoot with a Z5U, but I'd suggest not buying the Sony recorder, but the Atmos Ninja 2, which will boost your output to 4:2:2 and also allow you to film up to 10 + hrs without swapping discs. While it's still a pretty old camera compared to what's coming out now, if you've already got one the wide angle lens converter and an Atmos turns this old boy into a beast with some life in it yet.

Hi Rebecca, love your videos. Incidentally, I have held onto my Z5U all these years, even though I rarely used it (4 total recording hours). But with the advent of external recorders such as the Atomos Ninja Blade & Assassin as well as the Blackmagic Design Video Assist, I might just hold onto it in order to breathe more life into my filmmaking aspirations. While the Z5U 1/3" CMOS sensors are certainly no competition for the new APS-C, FF or Super 35 digital sensors, I find that the cine-gamma settings and manual image controls of the Z5U still render a very filmic image, especially using my Tiffen Black Pro Mist and Diffusion filters.
So I suppose my question is: have you seen footage shot on the Z5U onto an Atomos (or similar recorder) at ProRes high bitrate? If so, is there more practical dynamic range to work with in post than the HDV tape codec transferred via HDMI directly into a PC using something like the Blackmagic Intensity Pro card? When I record my 1080p 24fps footage onto HDV tape, I typically transferred that footage directly out the HDMI port and into the Intensity Pro card, and the resultant file in Adobe Premiere Pro would end up being 118mbps/.avi/uncompressed file, and they look really good, compared to the 25mbps HDV codec via firewire.
    Thanks!

Hi, I have a Z5 and I can't seem to get rid of grainy results in low light situations such as railway stations. I wondered if you could give me some advice on settings. I used to have a vx 2000 and it was brilliant. With the 2000 all I had to do was put the camera into auto mode and turn off the nd filter. The results were outstanding but I can't get the same with the Z5 in auto mode. Thanks in advance.

No, it's not an SD card or micro SD either, it is a CF card (compact flash)
