    The answer is ALWAYS. Toasting is part of the process for a proper barrel. High end bourbon barrels are toasted and charred. The problem is that most producers use what is called a "Kentucky barrel" from the cooperage. The toasting is a heat that brings out the sugars and allows the barrel to have fuller flavors. Wilderness Trail has ALL barrels toasted and charred. There is also different methods with the barrel ends not being toasted or charred. Most are not. Even really good bourbon can have no char or toast on the ends. Heaven Hill chars the barrel ends and I prefer this but Frey does not and they still taste great.

    I think the term Toasted is such a buzz word for so many people that makes some people buy immediately. When toasted is done right, it’s great but there have been some misses for sure!
