Also it’s been more or less confirmed that holding up the island doesn’t necessarily take any strength away from him. Unless you wanna argue that creating clouds took away energy, in which case they haven’t explicitly shown because when he created them he wasn’t fatigued. For all we know when he creates the flame clouds they just exist otherwise when he’s flying in his dragon form he’d be constantly fatigued. The reason why as he gets more and more fatigued in the fight the clouds get weaker is because so long as he’s conscious they stay up. The closer he gets to unconsciousness the more the flame clouds start to dissipate. Kind of like as long as you’re awake you can look and see and it consumes no energy to do so but the more tired you get your eyes begin to close and you fall asleep. I don’t know why people want to take this win away from Luffy so bad. 😂 If we keep going like this there’s gonna be an asterisk for all of his futures wins.
Even though Kaido will be defeated, you can't help but respect him when he's still standing toe to toe and proving a force even against gear fifth. The animation was amazing here.

it feels surreal watching Luffy being able to keep up with Kaido....dude had been one of the emperors for years, so long that he helped define an era in piracy where those four ruled over the New World. We heard about him so many hundreds of chapters ago and then saw how immense his strength was against g4. Luffy meanwhile started his journey only a couple years ago as a nobody in the weakest sea. Its so great to watch how far he's come.

Absolutely blown away by the animation in this battle. The detail, camera movement and motion is incredible. 0:53 the spirals in his eyes are 3-dimensional and cast shadows.. whilst he is rotating with the lighting and shadows revolving around his body 💫
This episode was animated so well! And yet people still complain. Ignoring that though the scene where kaido is coming towards luffy and it zooms into luffys eye showing the silhouette of a dragon is by far my favorite part of this entire episode and quite literally one of my favorite animated parts.
Kaido is truly the strongest because of his usage of Haki. It's terrifying. Though, he needs the hybrid form to keep up with Luffy I'm sure or he wouldn't be fast enough. Kaido mentioned that because of Roger, and it makes you wonder just how fast and formidable was Roger? If Luffy masters this power (Kaido already noticed Luffy is using his multiple hakis while fighting) than Luffy can't be stopped by anything but a Yonko+ level. You can tell just by watching the fight that Luffy is just being Luffy, experimenting with his power and trying things combined with his love of fighting to combat Kaido. In terms of battle experience Kaido just KNOWS what to do and how to adapt (as we are seeing) vs. Luffy who is still a new gen and playing with yet another new power to figure out how to beat Kaido. This is incredible, honestly.

I like this. So often in this type of anime, the mc gets his new powerup or whatever and proceeds to roflstomp the bad guy. Even in One Piece you see it like when luffy first went gear 4 and proceeded to BULLY doflamingo from one side of dressrosa to the other. Honestly, his time limit is all that made the battle remotely tense once he went bounce man on him. But here? Luffy went literal god mode, made the world his personal cartoon play pen, and kaido is still slapping the taste out of luffys mouth. Yeah dude is a lot stronger now and is counter slapping plenty, but this basically made for an even fight at this point.
what's great is how this episode made Kaido almost look like the protagonist, trying to find a way to fight against this crazy power. Usually you dont see the VILLAIN dodging the protag's multiple energy attacks to close the distance

Kaido has been fighting nonstop for like 100 episodes, but not really. Hes been pretty much brushing off all threats against him with the exception of a few, trying desperately to explain that their efforts were pointless. Only he knew how strong he really was, and now that we see it too, it's becoming more clear that he was right. No one in their right mind could ever even imagine to hope to beat Kaido on their best and his worst day. The dude is an absolute monster. That being said, we are now watching kaido, not brush off a threat, but actually fight. Actually, actively putting in effort, into fighting g5 luffy. Luffys power is absolutely ridiculous, more than anyone thought it would be, just shows how ridiculously powerful kaido has been this whole time, and no one knew. Well, Luffy technically diddnt had a chance to beat him in a normal 1v1. Kaido is working all day fighting several enemys at the same time. And luffy fights him with breaks and time to recover…. So no. Luffy needs all his power of g5 and will only win bc Kaido didnt have time to rest and restore energy.

It's even more impressive when you realize that this all took place within the fraction of a second that it took those lighting bolts to strike then dissipate. Luffy's power doesn't slow down the speed of lightning so they're both just that fast.

I think what I love about luffy is that the stronger he gets, instead of getting more stoic, intense, and indestructible like a tank, he just gets more rubbery, goofy, and indestructible like Bugs Bunny.
Kaido's words are definitely hyping up a future showdown with Shanks. Shanks has no Devil Fruit or physical strength like Kaido, so that means his Haki must be out of this world to still make him an Emperor.

This will go down as one of the greatest battles in anime history. It’s gorgeous. It’s meaningful (not just some random guy who shows up). I watch clips from it weekly and am in awe every time.
Remember, kaido was considered such an overwhelming and absurd force, that despite how desperately the world government wanted the weapon he sits on, they never made a move against him FOR 20 YEARS. And Lucci thinks he can take on luffy after this

Kaido is working all day fighting several enemys at the same time. And luffy fights him with breaks and time to recover…. So no. Luffy needs all his power of g5 and will only win bc Kaido didnt have time to rest and restore energy.

It's even more impressive when you realize that this all took place within the fraction of a second that it took those lighting bolts to strike then dissipate. Luffy's power doesn't slow down the speed of lightning so they're both just that fast.

I think what I love about luffy is that the stronger he gets, instead of getting more stoic, intense, and indestructible like a tank, he just gets more rubbery, goofy, and indestructible like Bugs Bunny.
Kaido's words are definitely hyping up a future showdown with Shanks. Shanks has no Devil Fruit or physical strength like Kaido, so that means his Haki must be out of this world to still make him an Emperor.

This will go down as one of the greatest battles in anime history. It’s gorgeous. It’s meaningful (not just some random guy who shows up). I watch clips from it weekly and am in awe every time.

tbh kaido jus repeated wat we already knew. kaidos words dont really apply to luffy tho either, reason being is that luffy knows 3 applications of offensive haki. ryou, advanced conquerors, n armament. he knows an advanced observation haki technique as well. luffy relies on his haki jus as much as his df, we know this becuase of wat happened at soabody n rayleigh training him on how important haki is during the timeskip

This man is truly a beast.
