    Hi Jon, what a great piece!
    I am having a bit of trouble on bar 12, linking the b with c# as smooth as you did.
    Could you please give me any tips?
    Your tone is outstanding by the way!
    Thank you

    • @jonpereiramusic4376
      @jonpereiramusic4376  4 года назад +2

      Sociable Misanthrope Thanks so much! Yeah I agree, this piece is great! About measure 12, I would check that your embouchure is not too tight and make sure that your bottom lip is not applying too much pressure on the reed. You’re embouchure should be firm but relaxed meaning that your top teeth are biting down on the mouthpiece, the corners of your mouth are supportive against the mouthpiece and a relaxed bottom lip against the reed (that should be in a neutral position, not tucked in nor sticking out). Also make sure that your air is nice and supportive. Try practicing that measure playing the E G B C# D slowly many times thinking about your embouchure and air flow. It may take a while to get it smooth but don’t give up and stay patient!

    Jon, very nice setting. I remember doing this back in college (mid 1960s ) But we didn't have pre-made backgrounds to use. What I don't remember is the final three measures of this setting. Those aren't really Bach's there, are they?

      @@jonpereiramusic4376 Jon, I just dug out the arrangement I played back then. It's a Sigurd Rascher arrangement, 1938 Copyright by Chappell, same key as the Larry Teal (1#) and does have a slightly different ending. Ends on a Dominant chord (written D) like it was going to transition to another section of the Cantata. I've listener to a couple other renditions of this Prelude and there seem to be a number of different endings depending on the soloists intentions. I'm sure Bach doesn't mind. Cheer, I'm lovin' your site!

    I'm using this for my solo and ensemble, any tips in general or for making sure the breath marks aren't too prevalent?

    • @jonpereiramusic4376
      @jonpereiramusic4376  3 года назад

      Hi! breath marks in general are very tricky, and depending of the skill level of the player it can be a frustrating. I recommend treating the breath marks as part of the practicing of the piece. Just like you would practice the correct notes, rhythms, articulations, dynamics, also make sure the breathing at certain spots in the piece is also practiced. Also the tempo that you take the piece as can impact how many times you will need to breathe. Make sure that your breath is quick and deep on phrases that don’t have much time for a breath mark. I hope that helps!
