The four-screw module mount is universal to Roland, Yamaha and Alesis; this particular unit uses that standard but can also accept a longer, rectangular two-screw mount.
Hey nice review man. I got one of these a couple of weeks ago too and it's so cool. Love what you were doing with it on your track at the end of the video. I have the dm10 mount and its fits on the back like a glove! I got to this video through synthtopia and it mentioned in there that the firmware update resolves those issues with the cross talk so I'm gonna get mine updated right now!
I want to add some backing synth tracks to my band. Does this work well for that? I want to figure out the world of midi but don't really know where to start.
Question on the top 2 pads (2 smaller top pads - the hi hat or cymbal sounds) those 2 pads. I have the same samplepad. How do you set those 2 pads that you don't have to hit them that hard. I found that i have to hit them pretty hard to make any sound. and then if they do.. it's full volume loud. (there's no soft tap or mid level trigger for the 2 smaller top pads)
I love the sample pad pro, you're going to destroy it with those enormous sticks. Might be part of your crosstalk problem too? I mean the sticks are really cool, but too bad they don't make them lighter.
That cross talk problem, can maybe be fixed by updating it, I have a alesis dm10 drum kit, and there was cross talk with one of the cymbals, but I updated it, and it went away. So try to update it
It's a bit tough on the hands physically as it needs a bit of force to activate but really responsive--I couldn't do finger rolls or anything but slapping worked great. You can also experiment with lowering the pad sensitivity
Hey man, I know their might not be a large audience for this suggestion.. But I was hoping you could do a tutorial on how you made the wav file samples and pitched them etc.. Thanks for the videos, they're awesome.
Now that you've had the Samplepad Pro a while, what are your thoughts? I was thinking of getting one of these just because the Roland and Yamaha ones are so damn expensive. But I haven't seen any reviews or thoughts on the Samplepad Pro after a while of usage.
Mikael Schwartz Has some crosstalk for sure, something to think about and it's really annoying - also editing the patches internally is really annoying and the interface is bad (like making it send different midi notes from the pads). But on the whole, it's so much cheaper than other drum triggers so if you are just wanting to add some live triggers its great but if you want to center a studio around it I'd save up for a roland or one of the KAT drum triggers
SPEARFISHER just updated the firmware again and adjusted the sensitivity manually, really did the trick---crosstalk was totally gone from my afternoon jam!
I wonder if the sensitivity is set too high and that is causing the cross talk? Perhaps if the sensitivity was turned down just a touch, the cross talk might go away?
I've had a question that I can't get answered anywhere regarding the sample cross fading (or velocity cross switching - however you prefer to call it) and that is: where the velocity range overlaps between 2 samples assigned to one pad, does the lower sample fade out at the end of the overlap and, conversely, the upper sample fade in at the beginning of the overlap, or do the sample volumes stay the same and the appropriate sample simply cuts out when out of its range...? I have the sample rack pro and what I'm hearing is a cut off, not a fade in or out. This is not good if it is the case and I really wish Alesis would fix it with an update. Thanks for the video.
Now that you've had this for a bit, what do you think? Are you still getting cross-talk issues or were you able to fix it? I also read that you could not hit two pads at once but that the latest firmware fixed that? Any help / advice would be appreciated. I'm really wanting one of these to use with Ableton and use my own samples. Unfortunately no one makes a great 8 or 10 pad unit (with no sounds) other than Alternate Mode KAT but they are pretty big (and costly)
Jeff Chartier still getting some crosstalk which is super annoying, the update seemed to fix it for the shoulder pads though. Generally its pretty reliable but the other day it went nuts when I was playin - might be my stand. Seems to only happen occasionally, still think its a great buy though!
SPEARFISHER If you're worried about the shoulder pads triggering the other pad, you could just put identical or similar sounds/samples on those pads. (or maybe you could even detune the identical/similar sounds) Then if the shoulder pad accidentally triggers the other pad, it would give the sounds a degree of randomness. You could use that flaw to your benefit. ;-)
+Bob Lyons It has 1/4 in outputs and a headphone outputso you should be fine -- the output is quite low however and many of the internal sounds are pretty weak...
Still have it but don’t use it that much these days- mostly because I am a pianist, so I’m actually better at playing in rhythms on my keyboard. But working fine!
+Lower Pink yup, they're a recording of me singing! Use slice to midi in ableton, you can hear the source material in this vid -- ruclips.net/video/2VzK0QN345Y/видео.html
Nice video! I'm using the samplepad pro as a add on to my live set up. I'm running it into channel 4 on my DJM 2000 mixer and I'm having a hard time getting any volume out of it. The volume on the unit is all the way up and I've trimmed all the way up on the mixer. Could you give me some help in what I might need to do? Thanks
+illumiNate021 yeah it doesn't put out very good volume....you could try to compress it with 7-10ms of attack, run it through a preamp or if your audio interface has direct monitoring use that and turn up the volume. good luck!
Hi Spearfisher, i'm not sure what is your setup so i'll ask. Are you actually using usb to send the midi datas ? The user manual says that it can do that, but i just want a confirmation. Thanks in advance.
This is what I'm playing on using mine for Primarily. I plan on doing a lot with this. I will be doing a review video of my own and sharing as much information as I can especially about midi. @Spearfisher I will definitely be reaching out to you to share idea and see what else we can share that can be helpful to people like us who own the Alesis Sample Pad Pro or similar devices. Thanks bro for doing this video and thanks Allison (Meows) for commenting.
Hey bud, thsnks for sharing this video . I should receive my sample pad any day myself . I'm not sure how to create my own or download my own sounds on a SD card . Is there a specific website you download sounds from? . Thanks
The songs from my track are custom but the others are internal -- when I first play my custom sounds are loaded but I show some of the internal ones in the middle
Got mine en route! What is that sexy stand you have your device perched on? Also, to echo Martin's question, how do the pads respond to hand playing? Thanks.
It's a laptop stand I got off amazon a while back-wasn't super pricy if I recall but it does take a little sensitivity out of lower pads as it is slightly curved. Planning to do a dm10 mount soon!
Liberty Beats you can do both! The output is pretty soft though, maybe run it through a preamp or something if you want to trigger internal sounds. Got it working great as a midi trigger though!
SPEARFISHER cool, would you recommend any other drum pads besides this one? It seems everyone i find who has one of these alesis pads always has a different problem with it...
Hey, thanks for this video. Just wondering if the SamplePad Pro as an in-built ability to loop the sample/sounds you play? Or would you have to attach an external looping pedal?
I've actually used it for both--after having it a while I tend to use it when I need a realistic drum pattern in the studio. Most the time I play in with Push as its a little easier but it's nice to have if you're a drummer
hi, thank you for your cool review.I'm interested in too and i have a question please? Is it possible te separate the metronome only in headphones and the sample in main out? it would be annoying that both would be in main out. thank you
Christophe Rigaud Just took a look at it - definitely sends the click out of the main outs which is definitely annoying - can't see any way to turn it off via the menu either (maybe after a firmware update??). But you could always get a click from somewhere else (computer) or just turn down the main outs to get a tempo as there are separate controls for headphones and the main outs.
Haven't used the actual 5 pin connections, they look solid though. I have it going into ableton via the USB midi - very low latency, most of it due to my older computer processor lol!
Hey man love the vid! But I had some questions what sound is on the first pad you hit the top left one? I've been trying to find a sound like that. And also where do you download your sounds from? thanks man!
+Transcend 7 www.iwantthatsound.com the future drum pack - I then combined it with repitched samples of a tibetan singing bowl I got, you can find similar sounds from sampleswap.com.
hey i really loved the video, i have a question thaat has been driving me crazy and seeing you have so much experince with this kind of thing. i was wondering what you used to give the sound? do i need another amp or are there speakers built in?
Yes you need an amp as there are no speakers built in - I plugged mine into an audio interface, then through to studio monitors. But an amp is the easiest solution
Hi guy ! Thank you for this great video !!! Please could you give me your opinion of what you think so far of this machine ? Personally I would use for the live to decorate my music. But it's also like $500 less expensive...so I'd say yeah its worth it! Depends how deep your pockets are :-)
Yup, just gotta check the midi settings on the samplpad (the kits that are preloaded play basically random midi notes) but it's easy to change, or you can drag and drop samples to where the notes are being played
+Mark so it was a metallophone sample from here --www.freesound.org/people/juskiddink/sounds/131978/ combined with a kick drum sound from www.iwantthatsound.com (the future drum pack)! Took a while to track it down but the freesound page has singing bowls as well if you want more
Hey man, Great video. Have you tried using it to trigger samples in ableton? and if so can you use it just as a midi controller through the USB connection or does it have to be through the MIDI out?
Hi man, yes I use it as a sample pad AND midi controller for ableton. BUT, during I play this pad triggers the next song, and thats weird. When i hit it slightly on the side Pad A and Pad B triggers out. So I have to send it back :(
You have to adjust the sensitivity and velocity to stop crosstalk !
What should I adjust it to?
The Juno 106 in the background -the star of the show!
Thank you. You are a talented cogent reviewer. I'm ordering one today from Zzounds for recording. You got me sold on it.
The four-screw module mount is universal to Roland, Yamaha and Alesis; this particular unit uses that standard but can also accept a longer, rectangular two-screw mount.
Nice review! Thanks for making this! I have been waiting for something like that for ages.
Epic Break down and very nice tune, Cheers Spearfisher!
Good to know, thanks!
Hello there, hope you are still around and doing well. What are you using to support the drum pad on the desk?
AWESOME REVIEW MAN, THANKS! I REALLY DIG YOUR STUFF BTW.
I want to add some backing synth tracks to my band. Does this work well for that? I want to figure out the world of midi but don't really know where to start.
+Jack McNutt probably not the best for synth tracks- works best for drum sound triggering.
Velocity sensitivity isn't great--theres an option in settings somewhere to make it full volume on all strikes👍
Hey man, nice video. Where's the stand from? I didn't see comments on this.
The drumsticks are also included in the unit?
I love the sample pad pro, you're going to destroy it with those enormous sticks. Might be part of your crosstalk problem too? I mean the sticks are really cool, but too bad they don't make them lighter.
That cross talk problem, can maybe be fixed by updating it, I have a alesis dm10 drum kit, and there was cross talk with one of the cymbals, but I updated it, and it went away. So try to update it
Bro if we update means we can load samples quicker?? There is a problem that it takes 3 seconds for loading samples ...Very bad for live performance
Nice review! Can you play the device with hands? Or with drumsticks only?
It's a bit tough on the hands physically as it needs a bit of force to activate but really responsive--I couldn't do finger rolls or anything but slapping worked great. You can also experiment with lowering the pad sensitivity
OK, got it. Thnx!
You're a drummer first, i just imagine myself there., Good video.
He's Chopin broccoli.
Can you use the sample pad in a drum rack or impulse in ableton. im having a difficult time mapping mine?
Cool Stand. Where did you get that pad stand ?
Hey man, I know their might not be a large audience for this suggestion.. But I was hoping you could do a tutorial on how you made the wav file samples and pitched them etc.. Thanks for the videos, they're awesome.

Them flashy drumsticks! yees
I wonder if the sensitivity is set too high and that is causing the cross talk? Perhaps if the sensitivity was turned down just a touch, the cross talk might go away?
Phillip Gioan yes exactly! The crosstalk is much better with lower sensitivity but is still an occasional issue.
Thank you for making this!
Do you have this plugged into a computer/laptop to play or can I just play it with it plugged in to a socket in my house?
I've had a question that I can't get answered anywhere regarding the sample cross fading (or velocity cross switching - however you prefer to call it) and that is: where the velocity range overlaps between 2 samples assigned to one pad, does the lower sample fade out at the end of the overlap and, conversely, the upper sample fade in at the beginning of the overlap, or do the sample volumes stay the same and the appropriate sample simply cuts out when out of its range...? great review..Which kits from "I want that sound" would you reccomend? There are so many of them! Also, do you get them in wav format?
+Charles Telerant future drums, organic - they have a bunch of great sounds! Also been using splice.com lately for new sounds, super fat
Were you buy them drum sticks
Hi! Can you use it as external MIDI controller in order to play VST (for example BATTERY from NI) ?
Now that you've had this for a bit, what do you think? Are you still getting cross-talk issues or were you able to fix it? Still have it but don’t use it that much these days- mostly because I am a pianist, so I’m actually better at playing in rhythms on my keyboard. But working fine!
Plzz give me a link to buy a kick pedal and a hihat pedal for that
Great review man thanks! I like the song you play! How do you get that voice sounds effect? Are they actually recorded voice or synth effects?
+Lower Pink yup, they're a recording of me singing! Use slice to midi in ableton, you can hear the source material in this vid -- ruclips.net/video/2VzK0QN345Y/видео.html

You have dual zone on meaning two sound to a pad go into settings and change it crosstalk maybe try the Settings see if you have dual zone on
Hi Spearfisher, i'm not sure what is your setup so i'll ask. Are you actually using usb to send the midi datas ? The user manual says that it can do that, but i just want a confirmation.
Thanks in advance.
+Olivier “MaX” ZUCCARO yup! Midi over usb - still have problems with crosstalk tho!
Is it safe to update alexis sample pad pro with out a sd card??
so you are recording in build sound through usb midi. do you need a third party software?
Hello, is you pass the link where to buy the sticks?
Hey man.....is there a cut-off to the length of a sample. Like, could I trigger a 3-minute sample with a single hit?
L.A.W. I think the limitation is only the size of the SD card. Takes up to 32Gb and samples have to be 16 bit 44.1khz wav files.
Where can I go to load sounds on my SD card.
looks nice :) does it work as a midi controller as well?
Allison yup, that is how I'm primarily using it!
This is what I'm playing on using mine for Primarily. I plan on doing a lot with this. Check out thatsound.com , they have some great sample libraries of well recorded and interesting drum sounds!
Hey Bud, those sounds your playing, are they the Alesis factory sounds or are you using a module? Thanks and Great work Bud

couple questions, can you use it to trigger samples from abletons drum racks? is their latency if so? or is it only by an sd card?
+hexz yup, thats exactly what I'm doing in the video - only latency from your soundcard buffer settings like any midi controller.
Planning to do a dm10 mount soon!

ayye so you can hook up this drum pad to ableton and use it as a midi controller right? or do you have to use an sd card to get custom sounds on it
Liberty Beats you can do both!
SPEARFISHER also how do you like push? was thinking about getting that but it seems a bit pricey.
can i use it as a midi-keyboard when i play in pro-tools or abletone?
and does it have a aequencer?
not really meant to be used as such, but no reason why not! Sends note midi data, so yes
Hey, thanks for this video. Just wondering if the SamplePad Pro as an in-built ability to loop the sample/sounds you play? Or would you have to attach an external looping pedal?
Muchuchez yeah, you would need an external pedal
jo - i know that there are 10 banks for sets/ kits built in already in memory of SamplePadPro . is it possible to have more banks when you use SD?
So does it work good in a studio setup instead of a live set?
I've actually used it for both--after having it a while I tend to use it when I need a realistic drum pattern in the studio. Most the time I play in with Push as its a little easier but it's nice to have if you're a drummer
Where or how did you get/make the sounds that you used for that track. The ones you had on the pads? Thanks!
hi, thank you for your cool review.I'm interested in too and i have a question please? Is it possible te separate the metronome only in headphones and the sample in main out? it would be annoying that both would be in main out.

You have dull zone on Meaning u have two sound to a pad go into settings and change it
Thanks for the video, Spearfisher. Have you tried the midi out on the samplepad pro by chance? If so, can you comment on the quality of it?
Haven't used the actual 5 pin connections, they look solid though. I have it going into ableton via the USB midi - very low latency, most of it due to my older computer processor lol!
Haha this was a fun vid. Thanks for the info. It was helpful
Great review man, thanks for sharing. Where did you order this from?
zzounds - they're great, responsive staff and quick delivery
im in love......

So there are no 707,808,909 type samples pre loaded, thats a pity
Srsly
Hey dude, i play drums with backtracks, can u trigger backtracks in stereo with this?
Hey - where did you get the stand for the Alesis?
its a Allsop Redmond Adjustable Laptop Stand
hi man ,thanks for the video, :) from where did you get those Led Sticks :) ???

Thanks. Where do I get the instrument list (original configuration) ?
hey i really loved the video, i have a question thaat has been driving me crazy and seeing you have so much experince with this kind of thing. i was wondering what you used to give the sound? do i need another amp or are there speakers built in?
Yes you need an amp as there are no speakers built in - I plugged mine into an audio interface, then through to studio monitors. But an amp is the easiest solution
nice glasses buddy, where did u get them and what brand are they?
+Mike The Jeepster warby parker "haskell" - great company!
brother, yet you bought These sticks? the online availability?
where can I get these sticks?)
haha thanks for helpin out!
Hey dude can you help me figure out how to download the samples to the SD card and then how to assign them to pads because no video tells me!
Hi guy !
Thank you for this great video !!!
Please could you give me your opinion of what you think so far of this machine ?
Personally I would use for the live to decorate my music.
For now it would be simply to add personal samples or use samples with looper (then i do that ?) and not for MIDI .
I saw a lot of reviews on the net for guys who have had problems with it and returned to service than it is for you?
Do you think this is a good alternative to Roland ? Thank you for your opinion :-)
+KAEVE It's a tough call - it definitely crosstalks way more than it should - if you use certain pads or disable some (mess with sensitivity etc) it can be fine, but yeah its not as solid as the roland. But it's also like $500 less expensive...so I'd say yeah its worth it! Depends how deep your pockets are :-)
+SPEARFISHER Thank's so much ! That's nice of you ! :-)
can you load up a drum rack in ableton and just start playing ? or you can only play off a sd card samples?
Yup, just gotta check the midi settings on the samplpad (the kits that are preloaded play basically random midi notes) but it's easy to change, or you can drag and drop samples to where the notes are being played
Do these pad connect too electrical drum set only ?
Webson The Mob they have outputs for a kick pedal, hihat pedal and 2 additional pads. So you can add to it!
SPEARFISHER i mean on a instrument drum set
man love your stuff !
how do you loop all instruments?
cheers
where is the other video, you refer to?
Does it have a crosstick sound?
where did you get those sticks?
+Navid Nilchian amazon firestix - kinda suck for actually playing (mine already broke) BUT they are super fun
Hello, is you pass the link where to buy the sticks? Thanks!
cái cây dùi đó đã quá. How much?
Don't use retarded light up drum sticks. The weight is all wrong and makes playing with proper form very hard. Get some vic firth's.

Did you use sd card to thats effects?
any dj scratch sounds on there?
Thanks for sharing ,bro
That was fucking dope dude
can I get the samples of the singing bowls please please please !!!!!
+Mark so it was a metallophone sample from here --www.freesound.org/people/juskiddink/sounds/131978/
combined with a kick drum sound from www.iwantthatsound.com (the future drum pack)!
Took a while to track it down but the freesound page has singing bowls as well if you want more
Can I load my own samples from Ableton library for instance ?
Hey man, Great video. Have you tried using it to trigger samples in ableton? and if so can you use it just as a midi controller through the USB connection or does it have to be through the MIDI out?
Hi man, yes I use it as a sample pad AND midi controller for ableton. BUT, during I play this pad triggers the next song, and thats weird.
When i hit it slightly on the side Pad A and Pad B triggers out. So I have to send it back :(
whats the name of your stand?
its a Allsop Redmond Adjustable Laptop Stand
Hey do you need an amp for this
what stand is that its cool
search amazon for Allsop Redmond Adjustable Laptop Stand
someone could tell me the price and where can I buy
hi where is the stand from?

I agree the tip of the drum stick are to big
