Thank you so much! You saved me! I'm at a gig and this pad was brought. Was trying to figure out how to use one pad for hihat close/open. For those searching for this, go to 8:11
Great tutorial. I have a few additions. 1) COPY KIT is ALMOST the only way to create a NEW KIT. All new kits are created on the SD Card. No SD Card, NO NEW KIT. Once it's copied, change the pad sounds to what you want on the new kit, and SAVE. 1.A) An option to #1 above, You can put your SD Card in your computer and copy / paste .KIT files (inside the KIT older) but you need to rename the copy. File name is limited to 8 characters. (See #4 below). The only way to get new sounds assigned to this new kit is through the Alesis Sample Pad Menu. This allows you to quickly create as many new kits as you want but you will still have to edit the sounds assigned to the kit on the Sample Pad. 2) You can't say it enough with this system, SAVE AND SAVE OFTEN!!! 3) BE AWARE that it will take time for each kit to load every single time you go to it and the entire kit must load before any pad will respond. You and your group need to know that it may take a few seconds between songs before you can kick of a starting loop. 4) You can change the name of your created Kits. With your SD Card in your computer, open the folder named "KITS". You will see files such as USER_001.KIT. You can change the USER_001 portion to whatever you want, with no special characters (except _), no spaces, and it CANNOT be more than or less than 8 characters before ".KIT". For example, I use a certain kit for our cover song by Stone Sour. I renamed USER_001.KIT to STONSOUR.KIT. The kit will still be named "KIT 11" in the left corner of the Alesis screen, but the center top of the screen shows "STONSOUR" (The File Name) . As I mentioned in #3 above, it takes about 20 seconds for all 8 of my custom sound files to load to this kit. 5) SUGGESTION: Only keep sound files you need on your SD Card. The more files on the card, the longer it takes to sort through them when setting up a new kit. Also, I've noticed having numerous unused files on the SD Card tremendously slows down the loading of my saved kits . Hope this helps some of you out!

Great tutorial. I'm using this video to evaluate the product for a different purpose than most here. I want to use it to trigger EZ Drummer 2 samples for recording in Pro Tools. I need to be able to assign the Midi Note number in EZD2 for the sound that I want to the Pad I want on the Alesis. I can see from the option on this video that this is easy enough to do. Basically I just need nothing fancy big assignable pads for EZD2, this looks like a great solution for me. Thanks!
Excellent video Justine. I'll just add that the Alesis Sample Rack which was release the same time as the Sample Pad Pro has exactly the same functionality, menu items and buttons etc. The difference of course is that it has no pads. Instead has a whole kit worth of inputs on the back. Kick, Snare, 3 toms crashes, ride etc..
Awesome work man. Nailed it! I've owned mine for nearly 3 years and it has done the job perfectly for me and my previous bands. The load times can be frustrating but its perfect for the price (half the price of the SPD-SX, but has all the features I'd ever use!).
Hey, is there a way to send metronome sound only to headphones, while all backings/samples are running through the output channels? Thank you! 🙏 This is an incredible video, very helpful!!!
Such a great and engaging video tutorial that I decided to buy this. However, I've been stuck for days with setting up Hi Hat with no results. Can you please make a detailed video on how to install Hi Hat for this? I'm so grateful ! Thank you, wish you Health and Happiness!
I have the same issue, and it's kinda frustrating. I assigned one pad located in the upper right to open hat sound. With the hi-hat pedal plugged into the back of the unit selected variable and pedal is pressed, assigned for a closed hat. But when I pressed the pedal and hit the pad to where the open hat is assigned, same open hat sound am hearing.
This was a very useful tutorial. I do have a few questions. You walked through setting a pad to CLK in order to assign the metronome tempo, and you also talked about setting up the metronome to start and stop from a foot switch. QUESTION 1: When using the metronome, is it possible to bias its output to one of the channels and not have it output through both? The thought would be to use either the left or right channel to transmit the samples on the pads, and the other channel to transmit the metronome. QUESTION 2: When using CLK on a pad, is there an indication of the tempo that is set? QUESTION 3: Can the metronome on/off be triggered from a pad? What I'm hoping to do is use the controller to set a tempo from the pad, turn it on/off from a foot pedal or pad, and transmit the click to the rest of the band through one of the channels. Any thoughts you have would be appreciated.

Can I use this to trigger a loop (backing track) from an SD card on any pad, use for a metronome, and trigger a bass drum at the same time, or would one cut the other out? I'm looking to use additional guitar layer, effects, and backing tracks for practice and live setting where I can put everything on an SD card and trigger it via pad station while I'm playing drums, and using a DigiTech JamMan to record guitar loops is one of the things we use, but we're looking to down size equipment, and with it's SD card, something like this would be great if it can do what I'm looking for.

Hey Jason, I have a question. I just bought a Samplepad Pro and was wondering if I can use a cable spliter on Pad 1 dual to attach two single-zone pads instead of a dual-zone pad. Since with a dual-zone you can assign different instrument to each zone, being able to use a splitter would give me the ability to use two single-zone pads thus bringing the total pads to 5 pads. Would it need a special cable like the ones use with Roland pads or just a regular stereo to mono splitter.

I got ezdrummer 2 with the metal foundry expansion for Christmas but my parents didn't know you need an audio interface to connect midi to your computer ( my edrumset doesn't have USB.) So now I got ezdrummer 2 but I can't use it with my drumset
Well not all electronic drums have to have the interface. If you have a USB connection on the back of your module, you can plug it straight into your laptop that way. A interface will help with latency though
fallen prophecy As long as you have midi out on your module, all you need is a cable that has midi in and out at one end and usb at the other. They are not expensive either. Then you can use your software. 😀
hí, friend! how are you? thanks for The review! have you ever plug the ddrum red shot trigger or another trigger in one of The triggers inputs in the back off the sample pad? it Works?
I had some slow down initially when I changed the midi notes while running through the samples in Logic. However as long as set the Midi notes , saved the kit and went back into the kit, all the notes played in sync and there was no lag. Some more questions if you can if you can help: (1) What is the best way to get drum samples into the SD card? I cant find the samples in any of the folders of my DAW files. Do I have to record each sample one by one, bounce them to an mp3 and then convert them to wav? (2) How would you order melodic percussive samples like steel drums? Like an all major scale or pentatonic etc and then to what regions? What pads would you leave blank?

You can't switch the samples on different pads? I wanna have the snare on the right and the kick on the left but they're crooked :(
how to format firmware of 2018 to Alessis Sample Pro???
Very Helpful!!!!
Thank You!!!!
hí, friend! how are you? thanks for The review!
have you ever plug the ddrum red shot trigger or another trigger in one of The triggers inputs in the back off the sample pad? it Works?
How do you power it...
Is the sample pad 4 simillar to this one
will a midi connector play faster through a daw than midi to usb?
Really good question, maybe if you buy a expensive midi connector? the signal still has to be processed either way you go.
