Now a GTA with a cop that goes totally rogue would be dope (as in completely rebels and goes total anarchist).

That'd be Lazlow. He's done all the sound stuff for every GTA game since 3. On one hand I kinda sorta understand some of the bad music choices and think they match up with the millennial hipster jabs they swing in the game. On the other hand I would've preferred Womanizer over Gimme More & no fucking Rihanna. An 80s station would've been nice over having more than one rap & hispanic station.

GTA 5 missions were a step in the right direction at least. Far more imaginative than GTA 4. I just wish they'd done a bit more with each person's personal story line because Franklin becomes irrelevant after a while, I mean they could have added a whole gang war type thing that he had to balance with his commitments to the heists but no they just ignored it until you shot a guy at the end.

Definitely agree when it comes with needing to freshen it up with the story. How many times can we play "try to get rich in parody America"?
Actually, I read on a couple places that the ORIGINAL idea for GTA was to have your character be a cop, and I would love a return to that idea for the 6th game. But narratively, both in work about the game's story & setting in the manual & online, it's inspired by the dystopias seen in the cyberpunk genre. You remember The SRS Scientists in area 2, the Residents District? The "Sex & Reproduction Systems" Scientists, the yellow gang in the Residential District located in the South East portion of the map, are literally a gang comprised of genetically engineered clones. • @aeonlinear

Get over yourself. Radio X (which was very lackluster / narrow in scope for an 'alternative' station) is not Channel X, which represents a snapshot of LA that had a demographic both then and now. In fact the lack of a third-wave 90's LA punk/hardcore station in GTA:SA was a pretty glaring omission. Much like the lack of an LA Metal / thrash station in both games.

I loved GTA 5, but it's like you said, I'm afraid they're getting into too comfortable of a position with their storylines. ***** Don't get me wrong, I love GTA, especially the gameplay. I just don't want rockstar to rest on their laurels and churn out GTA iterations just for the hype the name creates alone, we've seen it happen before and each time a dev did that the games got progressively worse/more disappointing. As for the story, yes GTA isn't all about the plot line, but with open world games it's often beneficial to have some context given to what you're doing. It's one of the reasons why Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption was so successful.

TL;DR version: I haven't touched my 360 since I first played GTA5; it made me fall out of love with gaming just the same way Mass Effect 3 did.
I couldn't stand the first hour of gameplay, honestly. I mean, GTA IV was clunky, but at least the characters had some respectable motivation. The awful, self-pitying asshat that is Jimmy... he was just so unpleasant that his little tirade after the freeway yacht chase was enough to put me off the game for good. I tried booting up my 360 the next day, but I felt this deep apprehension hit me, like forcing myself to go out to a party full of people I knew I couldn't stand.
Rockstar crafted an ugly, soulless world full of ugly, soulless people, and the worst part is this: Rockstar takes their "satire" seriously, and acts like they're holding up a mirror to America and saying "this is you." I don't have to listen to that, I don't want to, and I won't.

GTA IV's helicopters were perfect. I remember getting home from school on a Friday, grabbing some pizza and getting in with a bunch of friends with buzzards and fighting lobbies of pilots off at once. Flying a helicopter on GTA IV game took actual practice and skill. The mini gun had no cross hairs so you needed to be able to aim it with your eyes. I can't tell you how satisfying it was to shoot the KSA guy spamming missiles in a circle with 3 sprays and killing him before he even Knicks you. There was absolutely nothing wrong with GTA IV's helicopters if you didn't practice. To me helicopters are what made the game fun. Fuck this heat seeking nonsense, I want to shoot rocket pods and hit a target from 100 feet away. That's a hell of a lot more fun than aiming and waiting for a beep.

80% of the channels were dedicated to hip hop, rap and obscure electronic music. Great if you want to get high in your low rider but if you're 95% of the population that doesn't care about that shit then you're fucked. Out of like 12 radio stations there was one for pop music (that's alright to crap imo) and 1 COUNTEM 1 station that had reliably good music on it.

Two NWA songs, an Ice Cube song, and King Tee featuring Ice Cube and Breeze.
Two Dr. Dre songs, one featuring Snoop Dogg, the other featuring Snoop Dogg, Kurupt and Nate Dogg. Snoop Dogg has a song of his own. Kurupt has one on his own, one as Tha Dogg Pound (which features Snoop Dogg), and Mack 10 featuring Tha Dogg Pound.
Then there's a Compton's Most Wanted song, and a solo song by Mc Eiht.

Having officially completed this game, I will whole heartedly agree with you on the music selection, it is BAD, but then again, it's a game with a contemporary setting, and a lot of contemporary music is pretty shitty, but GTA 4 had a similar setting but I still thought the music in THAT game was really kick ass. Not sure what you mean but I thought Franklin was an imperative part of the story and gameplay, his special driving ability was REALLY handy, and narrative wise he's a foil for Mike and trevor, he's a young ambitious criminal with his eyes on the prize while they're both middle aged, grumpy and have had their priorities screwed up. juxtaposition man. Also the whole "dark side of the american dream" theme is not really the main focus, it's mainly a character study of guys roped in the crime field who try to secure their own futures with whatever means they can, which to me is just as derivative as the whole "american dream" thing, we kind of saw that already in ballad of gay tony, vice city, etc. but I've become so connected to the characters that it didn't bother me that much. The whole american dream thing was explored vastly in GTA 4 and quite nearly perfectly I might add. As tacked on as the choice system kind of was in that game, it really made me genuinely think about the choices I've made and whether they were morally sound or not given the context of all that's happened, in my eyes, if a choice mechanic in a game elicits that type of thought from a player, than it's done right. Niko still remains the most likable and identifiable of all the protagonists in the series, we can all relate to having a horrible past event that no matter how hard we try, we just can't seem to escape from. I thought the game was very good, but man it takes TOO goddamn long for the wanted status to disappear.

The fact that a game allows you I customize to your favorite standard is great. The fact that the first impression of a game's standard and what it tells you to e through the story is something else. After all, if no customization exists then the game still needs to be good just on its basic gameplay, mission innovation, and other varieties that a player doesn't have to put hours in to finally make the game seem right!

Saints Row 2 still has my favourite metal station in all of gaming. Opeth, Mastodon, The Agony Scene, The Dillinger Escape Plan, As I Lay Dying, Lamb of God, 3 Inches of Blood, Chimaira, The Black Dahlia Murder, Trivium, even the Avenged Sevenfold song was catchy. GTA: The Lost and Damned had some really good metal too imo, the clubhouse would always play Call From The Grave by Bathory and it sounded fuckin awesome.

Recently found in GTA V, a poster for GTA VI... we're going back to Vice City. My only hope is that they bring it up to the 1990's, give you more of a non-linear narrative, and have a soundtrack to match, because if not... then the game will suck harder than a hoover in the middle of a black hole.

Make it a parody of 80s and 90s action flicks, fix the soundtrack and is that just hot stuff or what?!

The 2 things I hate the most in this game is the Wanted Level system and the piece of shit online that Rockstar keeps spewing DLC fucking towards instead of a actual fucking single player story DLC that they will never give us. At least Red Dead Redemption had some decent amount of Multiplayer DLC but at least it had a single player DLC in the form of Zombies where still to this day is one of the best DLC expansions in video games of this decade so far but we are given fuck all still to this day for GTA 5 cause all they give a shit about is the godawful online that Red Dead Redemption is still miles ahead better than it.

I've put a horrendous amount of hours into GTA, but mostly in the online. The lack of real damage and wonky physics with cars has given me hours of throwing expensive supercars at various obstacles. Say what you want about realism, but there's something to be said for driving a Turismo off the mountain, flipping it 3 times, and landing wheels down just before plowing straight into a rock

    "Grand Theft Auto is back!"
I disagree. Where's my jetpack? Where are my gang wars or other acquisition of territory? Where are the fucking emergency vehicle missions (ambulance, fire truck, etc.)? Or demolition derby, or tons of buyable safe houses? GTA 5 sucked, dude, I'm surprised to find you saying otherwise. Also, you're applauding the pussification (R.I.P, George Carlin) of the driving in GTA games. That you could actually destroy your car if you weren't careful (i.e., skilled) enough in the older GTA games was a *good* thing. That you can magically flip your car back onto its wheels in GTA 5 is not. I mean seriously, for all the hard rock HELL YEAH LET'S FUCK LIFE IN THE ASS image you put forth, having to scramble out of your car just before it explodes was *exciting* and you should be missing that.

+Vic 2.0 I think the problem is that he's comparing it with GTA 4 in these respects, in which case it's a step in the right direction as 5 is generally closer to it's other predecessors than 4 ever was. As for the driving, I think the problem was that the physics were too batshit crazy in GTA 4 and too tame in GTA 5.

    • @Vic2point0

Tytee Tagor I think if you read my comment without any bias, you'll realize that at no point do I say "I like GTA: San Andreas more because it's older/old school" or anything like that. I give very practical reasons for preferring one over the other. If GTA: San Andreas *didn't* have a jetpack, gang wars, emergency vehicle missions, demolition derby and more buyable safehouses but GTA 5 *did,* I'd be saying something different.
As for canceling GTA as a series, I'd be fine with it! But not because I don't know what I want; rather, because I *do* know, and it isn't all this imagery over substance crap! I'm playing games like Just Cause 2 and Sleeping Dogs now. I've grown tired of GTA because it's just plain boring by comparison. And yes, the epitome of that suckiness is GTA 5.

  • @crossbones116

I was really disappointed by the plot of 5, mainly because it felt as if there wasn;t one. I mean in IV at the very least there was a set goal for Nico and a clear antagonist that was in some way a threat. In 5 though it was like they kept throwing random plot bricks into a washing machine to see which ones weren't spat straight out again. It was just a random series of events cobbled together while our three heroes meandered about and tried to figure out what to do until the game threw its hands up and said *"Fuck it"* before adding *"Go kill that Chinese guy, the FBI asshole and the douchebag who owns the PMC. Just do it."*

Nailed it, I had this empty feeling after completing the game and didn't really know what to make of it but this video has filled the gaps, and still has me longing for the day until I play a GTA game that tops San Andreas, fun story, great amount of variety for its time, very likable characters, amazing setting and soundtrack and the comedy aspects were top notch. Also, fuck Trevor, he's overrated and his act gets tiring really fucking fast... By the end of it I was relieved to not hear anymore of Trevor's shenanigans and constant complaining, he left such a bad taste in my mouth that not even a jar full of fermented Vegemite mixed in with Jenkem leftovers could overpower it. God fucking speed bruh.
