- We've adapted our canoe-shaped rowboat into a performance sailing vessel. This is a very versatile boat that includes a full length sleeping chamber, seven sealed compartments (including the amas) for seaworthiness, and a sliding seat rowing system. The main hull can simply be rowed on it's own as a capable human-powered craft, or the amas and sails affixed for exciting performance. The craft is constructed from straightforward stitch and glue construction and plans and kits are at www.angusrowboats.com
That is one fantabulous boat. Cruising right along there. So cool!
Super Cool design!
brilliant design! if there's such a thing as the perfect small craft, this has to be it.

I've been wondering how a rower has been doing so well in R2AK. Now I know. That's such a cool boat. It's the best fusion of kayak-canoe-skull-sailboat I've seen. Very nice. And congrats on your continuing success as you head...North to Alaska!
Yeah, it seems like cheating because these boats are so cool and functional!
Oh no, now I'll have to build another boat. I really like this concept, it is perfect for me down here in South Australia. Perfect for the Coorong where it gets shallow and I reckon it would be great cruising down the coast as well. I'll have to look into a kit if I can get one here in Oz
Beautiful designs work. Very well done. All the best with this boat.
Well done for following your dreams and actually arriving at the place you wanted to see.
So excellent! I couldn't believe when you said there are kits :-) hopefully that's still the case
Beautiful lines, simple clean steering and rigging system, open ocean ability, but best of all the sleeping compartment! At ONLY 180 lbs??!! I've looked at 100's of different designs and I always keep coming back to this one.
Now maybe incorporate this design for coastal fishing?
Open ocean may be asking a lot.
Looks SO fun!!
Neat little rig.
It looks like a Scandinavian Faering! You made a very handsome boat!
Great boat design.
I love it. It's my dream boat.
Its really like a VW Westphalia rowboat! Very nice & I really like the look of the rig under sail.
Better than any VW
@@chefgiovanni HaHa. Not if you need to travel on land
SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL
Wow! That's totally awesome!I've been so touched by your built-in shipI want to build the same boat as you!
Very nice idea
Now that is a pretty cool set up my friend. Good job Colin!
Love this boat. Been studying small boat design for years and this just kills!! Absolutely outstanding
Got into kayaking about 10 years ago previously sail Hobie Cat catamarans most fun I ever had
Wow very nice boat....
The perfect Race to Alaska boat!
I'm sure at least one has done a R2AK.
Plenty of these have been made in Australia out of surf club rowing boats, trimarans and proas. The first one I saw was over thirty years ago which had sailed 600 miles to the destination where I was at on my yacht. It was very sparsely fitted out and the guy lived on it.
A very nice balance slot of thought here.
uauuuu, impresionante, con eso podrías dar la vuelta al mundo.
That is cool,well done.
Very nice arrangement, incorporating many issues. I love the shape of the hull and to me it seems like a perfect sine curve, truncated a little at the transom, which enables a good balance considering the rower sits a little behind the centre of the boat.
Elegant in many ways. Sometimes I wonder if in heavy seas one could incorporate some water ballast to ease the quick action which tires a person in a quick jolting boat.
One of the best compromise boats I have seen and the different aspects are of high standards . Congratulations.
Ha ha ! I love it. Seems we have the same idea some what. Short amas . great! I see that you put them up forward to account for the upwind center of force.nice! The steering is beautiful! I have some what of the same cable tipe . only mine is forward cantaleever and two rudders. Some may say too complicated, but I haven't had any problems with mine. Simple is all right too , but it is also nice not to have a long tiller in the way
The amas are probably forward to make rowing unimpeded
Wow! What a neat boat! Thank you, youtube algorithm.
That looks like a lot of fun.
Ha ! a nice mix-up sailing and kayak boat ! bigger one with room for long journey very very good !
Definite improvement on the Philippine vinta/banca !
Nice! Thanks Colin and Josh!
You did good! Both on the boat design and on the video... Bravo! All that it needs is a way to remove that rudder and easily hook on a trolling motor (they make the controls wireless to be located anywhere on some models), and you will have created the perfect one man tiny ocean cruiser. It won't be long before some brave (or foolish) soul circumnavigates the world in this doggone thing. lol
Awesome stuff Colin, that looks amazing!
I’m going to build this! Holy cow, this is a great!!! Thanks for providing the kit!
I’m thinking of making a solar-electric boat.
Add panels that attach to the deck and the akas
This boat wouldn’t need much power; a small trolling motor would work great.
Remind me of Guired Soudée, a French sailor who departed from Africa and got to America in a row boat
Very smart boat
Great little boat.love the ease of use & safety 👏👏
nice boat looking
Really nice. Thanx
how well does it point? you didn't mention a centre board.
incredible
Great boat. i love it. ❤👍
A Laser hull alone is 130lbs, it’s a bit more when you add the mast sections, boom and blades.
That would make for a nice beach cruiser.
Be great to go coastal fishing , put a flexible solar panel or two on deck with a lithium battery pack and a electric trolling outboard mounted to one of the outrigger arms and Bob's your uncle for when you're feeling lazy and there's no wind .
Brilliant . 😊
I wouldn't mind having one but with a VHF marine transceiver and HF radio mobile transceiver with navigation systems.
very nice, well done
Have any completed everglades challenge? Swwms like a good boat for that.
Amazing idea..
Wish they were sold as a complete boat all ready put together.
It would be very nice if such a boat would be available already built!
Im in love.
Problem with this design over monohull ,is that there is not advantage. The outriggers needed to compensate for the narrow hull cause a lot of drag. The narrow hull has now less room for camping etc. set up time is a lot longer at a busy boat ramp. It doesn't look fast either. And if you want to put a small motor on, to get you from the boat ramp out to the sailing ground , then it where do you put it conveniently? Transom is the optimal place.
Such a cool boat. For sailing, where is the centreboard (or any mechanism) to stop side motion when sailing a reach?
I love this boat! Almost as much as the 18' Windrose Ocean Rower! I wonder what became of that boat. I'm planning on recreating it for my first ever boat.
incredible, nice to cross the Atlantic
Can't imagine.. will stay on the rocky coasts, thank you..
Awesome 🤙🏽
Wonderful design! How about that hatchway? That is a big opening you'd want sealed in rough going.
Yes it is a big opening. I just finished building the rowcruiser, there is a water tight lid on the hatch. Works very well.
Qué simpático un ketch.
I love this thing
Brilliant concept, and would scale up well, I expect. Windsurf sails should be a good alternative. No mention of a keel or centerboard. How close to the wind does she sail in various conditions? What sort of leeway?
It has a dagger board case in the cabin: angusrowboats.com/blogs/news/about-our-sailing-rowcruiser
I need one!
How big a sea could these boats handle ... I live on the east coast of Australia and really love your design:)
I also have a spearfishing channel which I’d love to use your boat in my adventures ☺️
It would be even more amazing if you could drop in a Hobie Mirage Drive to supplement it when sailing, or when you're in narrow passages, or even fishing! Either way beautiful vessel, wish I could own one for myself one day.
Did You had sailed to Open sea, Big waves ?
Nice boat. I have had several sailing catamarans, and have one now, as well as half-a-dozen other sailboats from 8 to 33 feet. I also have canoeing merit badge (I really do). No, that is not a row boat, exclusively. That is a boat that can be sailed, or rowed. It is both a rowboat and a sailboat. So get over it and admit that you are a sailor and a rower and a boater. I'd love to sail/row one someday, as I also have the disability of mind that causes otherwise perfectly normal people to sit around dreaming up the perfect boat for, well, you know, messing about in boats. That boat looks pretty sweet.
Russ
Could this be made with kevlar or something to make lighter?
nice
The problem starts when you have to visit the toilet in the middle of the night. What are pounds?
Iam 6'6 and want to know if this one fits to me?????
I ve GOT a rowing boat, can i get the bars and the floaters?
Looks great. How do you steer when you are row/sailing? Also, do you use a mirror to avoid other craft and obstacles? I like it. The sail looks like the one I have rigged on my sea kayak. Needs very little attention when tacking ang gibing.
,Waaao, is very cool boat
That's awesome......just try in a rough Sea's...
How about if you try to put a machine....(eg.yamaha500hp or mercury500hp)....
Looks much like the rowing boat used to cross the Atlantic and then row from Scotland to Syria by a Canadian and his wife. Could you be the same couple?
Never achieved before?? Maud Fontenoy crossed the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans on a row kayak...15 years ago!
Where did you get the aluminum out riggers?
Hi Angus firstly love the design. place to sleep very impressed would love you guys to add a electric motor as a option hard wire cables to solo panels and have the panels charge lights for sleeping area and recharge batteries for the electric motor. please send pricing for your kits. like to make and sell them in south Africa.
cool
You should see the Sea Pearl 21
That looks like loads of fun, did you have a marine or ham radio with you?
How close can you sail upwind? I don't see any board or keel for lateral resistance.
I think the boat has a leeboard, like my outrigger canoe... ruclips.net/video/v6TvDGo_oww/видео.html
Awesome.
Trimaran !
Who built one? I'm looking at for others to share info
How do you prevent rope slippage on that wheel other than applying tension? The rudder-handle relative positioning will change with each slippage. Question from a guy with no sailing experience. Please indulge me.
how do you empty the water who come into the cockpit while sailing in chopy seas?
sold... I want one..
Great boat. How are the trip in the result in Race to Alaska 2016 in this boat?
Hugs from Brazil
Can a kit be sent to the Philippines? It seems almost perfect for a country with 7,000 islands! The native fishing boats are very similar, but they've gone away from sails in favor of outboard motors.
i want to see a recovery from a knock down or capsize
can those situations still occur with the amas/outriggers? And if it did happen, would it have damaged the boat do you think?
at what price.
I want one
olá amigo, sou do Brasil, e estou projetando um caiaque tipo canoa, gostei muito dá sua embarcação, poderia me passar as medidas e peso, parabéns e obrigado pela atenção.
Why having one mast with a sail area You can barely handle
when You can have 2 masts with 2 handy sails on it?
I'm not a sailing expert, but this solution seems to be simple and effective.
please have electric flexy solo panels so they can be attached by epoxy where the red paint is.
