  • Today in this Big Breakfast on the New Weber Griddle video, we’re continuing on to put the new Weber griddle through its paces. Why do I like to cook a giant breakfast with bacon, sausage, hash browns, pancakes, and eggs on my new griddles? There’s a few reasons why big breakfasts are great to cook on your new griddle:
    - Cooking foods like hash browns and pancakes really helps you to see where the “hot spots” are on your griddle. Because these foods cook on one side for a while, they have time to turn golden brown, and when you flip them to the second side, you can clearly see what areas of the pancakes or hash browns are darker in color. Those darker spots are where your griddle has hotter cooking zones.
    - Some people swear up and down that cooking bacon and sausage on your griddle is good for the seasoning.
This big breakfast on the Weber griddle turned out great! And I definitely learned some more things about the cooking temperatures on the Weber griddle. Watch to find out how it’s going as I get more and more experience with the new Weber griddle!
And for my full review of the Weber griddle so far, check out this post on our website: theflattopking.com/weber-grid...

I was worried the 28inch was going to be too small but so far so good. It was between this and the 36inch blackstone but your review sold me on webber. I’ve been waiting for this video. I’m a Weber fan as well. It would seem that the lack of bells and whistles is very secondary to the even heat distribution. The color of those pancakes was so even…remarkable!! I have a Blackstone two burner 28”. I did zero research on griddles and soon learned that three heat zones would be much preferred. One thing…how did the frozen hash brown turn out having first been thawed. Thx for a very informative vid. I can look at the Weber flattop with a lot more confidence now.

Looking to buy a griddle, I lost count of how many of your videos I’ve watched. I think this video sold me on the Webber. Didn’t like how the Smash Burgers in the other video were welded to the surface, but I’m sure with time that wouldn’t happen. Everything here looked flawless.
Gonna have to pick up your seasonings too. I have a shelf full of a bunch of brands but you can’t have too many seasonings.
And I think you’re right on it looking kind of cheap. Webber should pay attention to you and make a premium looking model with the innards from this. I would 100% pay an additional $150 for something nicer looking.

Wow, compared to the 1st cook, it's almost like this is not even the same griddle. Night and day performance. I'm still with you on the looks though, I would like to see a "Summit" high end version at some point. Looks like Weber got it more right than we gave them credit for initially. Which is a good thing. Reminds me of a WSM, it takes a few cooks to get the coating on the interior and it settles down (cooks hot at first, but rock solid afterwards).

The two biggest things I’ve noticed is that it’s a three burner 28”. Most other 28’s are two burner. So that likely contributes to it. The other is that the griddle top, cooking surface, is carbon steel rather than cast iron. So it’s much more conductive, reactive and responsive.

I haven't tried to see how hot it actually gets if I let it go higher than that. Had a weird issue the other night where it wouldn't go above 300, like the regulator wouldn't let it get gas. I thought I was running out of propane, but I picked up the tank and it seemed about full. So I turned the whole thing off, shut the tank, then reopened the tank and reignited all the burners, then it acted exactly the way it always does.

Do you have a certain temperature that you think works best to get that good sear on a smash burger? I could start my grill out on a lower temperature and then slowly move it up to get it to the temperature I need instead of just blasting it on high

So I would just turn the burners on and whenever the oil will get smokey that's when I would put my burgers down. I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I noticed that you respond to pretty much everybody that comments. And it looks like you're well on your way to probably at some point having a million subs. What do you think of flaxseed oil for initial seasoning? It has a low smoke point, but it's essentially food grade linseed oil. The polymerization is allegedly much tougher, and Cooks Illustrated ran a cast iron pan through a commercial dishwasher with degreaser without issue.

    • @TheFlatTopKing

without getting to technically there is only one flaxseed oil that is worth a darn...i think it aslo flakes faster...the other flaxseed oils are mixes and get commonly mistaken...so the original one may hold marrait...I prefer grapeseed or avocado...that being said I honestly have not done a scientific experiment or have the correct knowledge about the whole thing...

I think it was mentioned that the proof of this newest offering by Weber was the form follows function concept of how it would cook (the obvious reason for it’s existence). As a longtime Weber fan, I am heartened that you are pleased with it’s performance with regard to even heating and temperature control.
My dad always reminded me to buy the proper quality tool the first time or I would be buying it again. Now, will the Weber’s price point allow reasonable justification to follow that principle…i.e. SnapOn vs another brand of acceptable enduring quality?

Glad to see a turn around on this Webber. I have a question. Have you ever actually measured the thickness of any of the griddles? Something about the sound of your spatulas on the griddle makes me think they are thinner then the other brands. And although that would ordinarily not be considered a good thing, perhaps not here. You were very happy about the response times of the griddle cooling down when you turned the burner down. This would be the case with thinner metal. If you don't already have a device to measure the thickness of steel go to Harbour Freight and get one please to measure this. This could solve a interesting question on this subject. And perhaps discover if what the manufacturers are telling us about their products are in fact correct. Sir enjoy your day. Oh one more thing. For me my main interest in flat tops are big breakfasts. If that's all I ever do on them, I'm OK with that. I have grills, smokers etc up the you know what and I love all of them for what they do best. I'm actually considering building a traditional brick wood fired baking oven this coming summer for pizza and other baking ( think wonderful Artisan breads, yum) so this is the kind of cook you did today that I very much enjoy seeing. May peace be with you and your family.
