  • In this second interview with John, we discuss his role as an RTO, the weight of the PRC-25 and equipment he carried, the 1st Cavalry in general and its role during the war, and the tactics utilized by the 2nd Battalion. We also dive into one of John's CO's Captain George Mace, DSC, and a two-company fight that Alpha and Bravo of the 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry fought from December 2-4, 1968 at Dong Xoia on a search and destroy mission.

As to visiting THE WALL...I circled it four times before I garnered the fortitude to enter so I could honor them. It was magnificent. I dared not look directly at those enshrined names, as tears and snot were flowing............... And I was trying to be collected.
I knew those men there etched in the WALL...died in futility.
And I was mere REMF perimeter security and inner security FAC (OV-1 and OV-10s) at Da Nang 1971. Got to experience a 6.72 whiz within a foot or so of my pretty face once and survived rocket attacks.
Nothing like this man experienced. GOD bless you John Wentworth
    NO MORE WAR. Stay dry.
