Gavin, without a doubt you are so high up there in my opinion, as one of the ALL TIME Funniest and Exquisitely talented photographers on the globe!! And I want to add my appreciation for how wonderfully generous you are to showcase so many of your peers who you bring on to your videos. I would "never" have found/discovered Simon on my own. But being one of your guest artists endeared him to me and I'm sure so many others. So Thanks again for all of your sharing and entertaining.
Hi Gavin. Great video. I had the same problem with my Sony 200-600 fogging up internally earlier in the year. Bloody pain!.. Lost a load of shots whilst out on a wildlife trip. The auto review on the A1 is menu item 47/52. It's in the 'Setup' menu, last icon on the left. Looks like a toolbox. Then select option 7 'Display Options'. Last option on the first page is Auto Review. One of the first things I turned off when I got mine🙂
Being wind blown is always a good look. Had a similar experience at Shore Acres State Park on the Oregon coast. And Kicking Horse coffee is great. If you like dark roast the “Kick Ass” blend is hard to beat.
Yep been there. I went to Iceland. Trip of a photography lifetime and just had the worst weather. Rain came sideways and just seemed to be constantly hitting the lens, no matter what I did! Too windy for tripods and overall just utter garbage! It wasn't even very good for moody shots! I got drunk a lot instead Lol!
Gavin you and Simon need to take this act on the road. Do not limit yourselves to RUclips! I dis read your Chasing Awe tome… it is awesome- Congratulations.
OMG can't get enough of your channel, who's the smart one "Amanda" for staying home during Fiona. the first part where the wind hit you two was so funny... Love your channel....
You had me creased up laughing this evening! I have a hernia operation in three days, so I am so glad I watched today otherwise this video will have killed me. The weather reminded me of the Scottish Highlands and West coast. It must have been really extreme conditions if it did that to both the Sony G and Canon R lenses which I assume are both weather sealed.
Please dont quit, we have all waited soooo long for you to get settled in Nova Scotia and resume your regular youtubes LOL - keep up the amazing work !!!!!!
One tip for wet weather, keep a couple chamois leathers in your bag. You can drape them over the lens and the camera body. Let them take the soaking. You can wring them out until they're almost dry. The guys at the motorsports events used to use them all the time.
Sony A1 autoreview off - SETUP icon -> #7 Display option -> Auto review In conditions like that I would have used a rain cover, just quietly. Exciting vlog
You beauty Derrick, I would NEVER had looked in there. I guess I could have done a word search in a PDF manual but FFS these things ought to be easy to find.
OMG the chocolate eating bit was too funny. And I now expect the episode where you discover mold in that lens.... Simple plastic bags taped to the lens hood make a great rain cover.... LOL
Shitty rear LCD mechanism though. I’d rather have an unreliable camera than to have to pull out and twist that damn rear LCD every time I wanted to shoot a picture.
I'd want a properly weather sealed internal focusing prime or better yet (and far beyond my budget) an internal focusing internal zoom for weather like that.
According to the chocolate scene, you both can start direct and straightforward as pro actors 😅. Besides: Gavin, do you know, with a GFX100s plus WR labelled lenses or e.g. a Nikon Z7 II or a Z9 plus all "S" lenses or D850 plus all of the lenses having a rubber sealed mount, you never have to worry, even not in pouring rain. Greetings to Simon.
I don't think you needed to sell it in the description. Just watching and listening to you both was a surprise full of giggles that came in waves 🤣🤣🤣 waves i said. Great show 👍👍
Loved the video, reminds me of my time in the area (12 years old) I lived in Arichat, Isle Madame late 60s and early 70s, so I'm guessing you were at Rocky Beach and Pondeville. In storms boulders would be tossed through the air at those beaches, making it quite hazardous to be there. Our old (250year old house) would lean in different directions as the big storms passed by, different doors sticking or becoming unstuck as the wind changed direction. Have many a wild tale in my time while there.
You're a cruel man not sharing the chocolate! 🤣 Optech makes a great rain sleeve that'll fit in your pocket, very little weight, are disposable, and very inexpensive, like $3 each. I have them in my bag and if there's any chance of weather, either dust or water, it goes with me in the field. They've saved my gear on multiple occasions.
For foul weather shots, borrow a long (100-400) Nikon lens…they make adapters for Sony I think. They are weather sealed!!! 😊❤😊❤😊 But then, can’t laugh as much… Thanks for the fun vid😂😂😂
Came here after watching Simon's video. All very entertaining, and the out-takes made me laugh. Didn't you feel the least bit sick after all those Twirls?!! Hope your camera and lens recovered ok!
I love this photography, stormy seas are my favourite scenes. My friends think I'm bonkers when I say I prefer Scarborough in the winter with high seas over summer calm, Marine Drive before they improved the sea defences mmmm yes.

Gavin, not all American chocolate is horrible. Have you tried See's chocolates....not even sure if they are around still. My sister used to bring back boxes from the US to Australia. They are to die for!! 😋😋😋
OMG. See's ... yessss ! My mom used to send them over from USA. Although I lived around Swiss and German chocolate, See's will easy compete to the top spot. Absolutely the best USA chocolate I tried ! Really ... the best ! :) I remember those double-stacked big boxes ... I would eat the entire box without breathing :)))
No camera/lens is "waterproof" but there is better "weather-sealed" gear around -- like my Z System cameras (ordered the Z9 in Nov. 2021, got it this March) and lenses. I try to always buy internal focussing lenses for this reason as well. The monsoons have arrived on Vancouver Island (are you pining for the Western Fiords?) so, because I'm a (poor) wimp, I use a rain cover too.
