I am a new patron to Neil's channel. I started w the pond build. Now I've gone back and watched so many of the older videos and absolutely love this content. Neil makes me so happy when I hear him explain how he thinks and does things. It's Americana at its finest. It makes me think how hard American families had it and where we are today.

The one tractor that uses gasoline and diesel has a gasoline pony motor on it to start the diesel. Looks like it was a great show. I go to a similar show at Rough and Tumble in Kinzers, PA. Love seeing this equipment preserved.

I looked it up. It's a single engine that starts on gas. 5.7L 4 cylinder I think. Do a Utube search for "International 650 Start On Gas, Run On Diesel". I have seen these engines before used on stationary generators that would start on gasoline then run on fuel oil.

Neil… I grew up with Farmall tractors. We had an M and a C. Both had the narrow front ends. They taught you real quickly how to steer with the brakes!
I’ve owned one IH. It was a 1954 I-A. The ‘I’ meant Industrial. What was special about it was, the exhaust.
There was a butterfly valve between the header and the exhaust stack. When you closed the valve, exhaust was diverted into hoses that powered an air cylinder. The plunger drove a circular cam that lifted and lowered the belly mower. That was IH’s answer to the new-fangled Ford 3-point hitch.
They ultimately lost the battle and Ford ended up getting the business of road side mowing equipment.
I used it to clear a road through Sassafras Valley then decided to upgrade. I wish that I’d never sold it… it would be so cool to have it restored and ready to show. I’ve been to dozens of tractor shows… never saw one like it…. But, did met a few old-timers who recalled seeing them in their youth.
Shows like the one you were at bring a lot of history and customs to life. I loved taking my daughters (and now my grandkids) to give them a glimpse of what life was like in my youth!
I am looking forward to the livestream and hope to see you tonight.
    PS- check your e-mail.

I love hearing the history and stories behind so many of these old tractors. That's actually what makes them neat is the stories they have to tell rather than just the tractors themselves in my opinion.
I'm glad we share that interest and we can hopefully pass it on to the next generations too. At least make them aware of it if nothing else!
For young people to see those steam engines and that sawmill really is a glimpse into the past and I don't think you can get that hardly anywhere else anymore today.
Thanks for the heads up on the email. Glad to hear you got your nematode situation, hopefully under control. I haven't had a chance to watch a video today yet, but I certainly will.
Thanks as always and hopefully we'll catch you tonight.

I just found your channel two days ago and I must say that I am now addicted. I've been binge watching. I live in Northern Idaho just 25 miles from the Canadian Border. We have extremely high mountains, beautiful clear rivers and lakes and all four seasons. We have wildlife coming through our yard everyday and I love to watch the babies grow into does and bucks. Your whole family and their values are impressive. I hold those values which are a lost way of life now in America. Keep up the good work and thank you for your great channel. I'm 63 yrs old and more a tomboy type lady. I love rugged hard labor videos which my husband doesn't quite understand. He's a retired prosecutor of 43 years! The man that put the yard in for us said that we should leave the dirt at the bottom of the side walk. I thought that was going to look odd but I agreed. The reason was that over just a few years that the sod will fill in and grow over the side walk if you leave it high. He was right and it is easier to mow and looks good. Keep up the great work. You have a nice looking home.

Having driven a mix of loaders and tractors, I'd like to see a home-made pivot steer with the station on the rear half, for the reason that the steering angle can easily be seen when the operator is sitting on the rear. I do understand though that it's easier to build one of these with the station on the front half and all these guys have done a great job regardless, especially the guy with the six-wheeled tractor

You are not the type of person to call something by the wrong name. SO..... that is NOT a "buzz saw" that is a "circle saw, sawmill". That sawmill is WAY underpowered, he should be able to push the logs through three or four times faster that what he is doing.
At 15.19 of this video. Yes, the gasoline is to start a, what they call a "pony motor". That is a Gasoline engine that actually starts the diesel engine. So it has both gasoline and diesel. They used that setup in MOST bulldozers back in the day.

You should come out to S.C.R.A.P. here near Fostoria Ohio next year. They have lots of the same type things there.

So the tractor is diesel and gasoline at the same time. It may be that the gasoline engine starts the diesel. Like they used on heavy equipment.

A buddy of mine had an IH Scout when we were in High School, that thing would climb a tree I think.

@digdrivediy No doubt you'll have a lot tune in, but on the off chance you don't, I would suspect that's why. Have a great time!

Hey Neil, my father used to work for IH from the 60s through the 1980s. I think they became Case IH at some point in that time frame. Anyway, for a time he had company vehicles. I remember he had a Scout and a Travelall. Don't remember what else. It is rare to see one these days. We had Cub Cadet tractors, too. Several years ago, my brother had an eBay business buying used Cadets and parting them out on eBay.

I still have dreams about the Scouts I owned when I was in High School. Those old trucks and tractors taught me a lot. Many folks around here are still very dedicated to IH and their Cub Cadets!
