I put a 45a ESC and an APC prop (same pitch as stock) on my Valiant and it is a ROCKET, I don't question for a minute that it's booking at 100mph.
That said when I did the motor mount started to pull out. I tugged it on out and put it back with epoxy and it's been solid since. I run maxed throws on my ailerons, rudder, elevator. It snaps forwards, backwards, flatspins, just does so much crazy aerobatic stuff.
Then you drop the flaps and throttle back and it just cruises around all chill-like. Such a versatile plane. I've never had a flight on it that didn't end with me smiling. One of a very few that if I ever crash it I'm pulling my phone out to order a new one on the spot.
That's the best type of plane...FAST, SLOW, CARZY, or CALM - it does it all!
😳 “WOW” You did the Valiant THANK YOU I have the plane for three months now having flown until you’ve done your review on it. FANTASTIC. I’m still watching the video thanks Brian and camera crew.
Hope you enjoy it! Thanks William for LIVING on my channel ;)
Thanks Brian for all the input I’ve been flying it Valiant and I’ve been loving it, I love the flaps. Now I got to get by night timber up in the air.🙄
I have gotten this plane for 3 years and it is always my go-to. Very high performance, easy and fun to fly/maneuver. You can go extreme aerobatic or fly relaxing like a trainer on this plane. It is that great that I even thinking of getting a second one as a spare, in case HH stops the production.
Couldn't agree more! Great plane!!!
Im glad you got this one ive got one sitting in the garage waiting to fly this spring .Perfect timeing Thank you.
Enjoy it - get it flying ASAP!
"What's the vector Victor?" Sorry I couldn't resist, but you started it. And gosh I love this bird, thanks for showing it, with your video I was able to get a really good look.
Shirley you can't be serious...
My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed it
Brian you did a fantastic job on explaining the duel rates an expo I don’t think anybody could’ve done it that good.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Glad it helped! Gotta just try it to really understand what it does. It's one of those things you don't THINK you need when you're a new pilot, trying to keep things "Affordable" - LOL - then after 15 minutes, you realize you "need it" - LOL!!!
just bought one of these. very excited. love your flying skills dude
"Level 2 is somewhere between 1 & 3"....I never thought of it like that! LOL!! ;) Another great video you two!! Thanks for all of your hard work (labor of love) to bring us all of the great info, details and helpful input!! You guys are the best!!
I just think "level 2" means nothing...so I kinda make fun of it whenever I see it - LOL
Hi I'm brian from wv and i have ben flying since 1973 and i love your videos very helpful and yes as soon as the weather clears up I'm going to try expo
Thanks Brian! Glad to have you here with us Newbs ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC how is the cms Pitts I have never flown a biplane and I am going to try one
Just got my valliant today.
Thanks to your video, i put it together in no time.
I did a modification i wanted to share with you. .
The landing gear from the carbon cub s 1.3 meter, will fit right on the valliant because the struts for the valliants floats are the same struts as the lg and float struts on carbon cub s.
So if you dont like them noisy wheel pants and rather have tundra tires, just grab some carbon cub s + lg off horizons parts list.
They go right on like they meant to be there. And look real nice too!
COOL! Honestly, I never gave it a second thought, since they look so dang good, but you are 100% right...they're noisy. I didn't even realize they were interchangeable.
@@BrianPhillipsRC they seem bouncy too when your landing on your diveway/sidewalk.
I havent flown mine yet to see how these do, but once i renew my ama and get gas to go up to my flying site, i will let you know how they do.
What a great flying plane I've got to get one this summer Nice flying Brian and thanks to Camera Crew we get a front row set to watch 🔥👍✌️
Thanks Erric!
Bout dang time Brian! This is my 3rd and favorite plane! I love it. So glad I got to see you shake it down. Great video! My fav goto dude for rc planes!!
Thanks Charles!
Thank you for helping out my husband on his viper!!! Love your videos!! Keep up the great content! I don’t know why I have not subscribed sooner lol!
Awesome! Thank you! Glad I could lend a hand!!! We're glad to keep you guys entertained :)
Great vids thanks, so lucky to have a wife who helps out, plus the runway in your yard big bonus.
Oh yeah!!! Thanks Ross!
Got this plane last summer, great flying plane. I started with the apprentice s and got this as a second plane. I feel like this would have been a better plane to start with, east to fly but then has plenty of speed when you go full throttle!
I love both! Flaps on the Apprentice makes it a lot easier to land in tight placed, FYI ;)
The valiant is a beauty. Personally one of my favorite beginner type plane is the BNF Aeroscout 1.1. The aeroscout was my first plane. I just got done assembling my first ARF the Eflite Pacer.
Nice! I bet she'll be a super good flier!
That plane cries for floats and skis ... :) One of my favorite . Love those black stripes under the wings .
She'll take them both ;)
Thanks Brian for doing the review on the Valiant, it sounds like you like that plane. And I heard more positive than I did negative it’s time for me to get mine up in the air. I just got to get a 4000 mA battery 3s. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
That's going to be VERY tough to fit in there, FYI...it's got a battery bay kinda like the Carbon Cub S+
That plane really flies great. Very good job.
Yes it does! Thanks!
This was my 2nd plane. It's amazing. Easily my favorite high wing, followed by the EC1500 and the F15.
Very nice!
Thanks for this flight and build.
No problem!!!
Great presentation! I worked for Motion RC for several years. I really enjoy watching your presentation videos! Well done, fun to watch. A+
Thanks Matt!
Wish they'd work with me ;) Seems like a great company, and I've done business with them before, but for whatever reason, they think their "house" review system is best, but it is not. Don't get me wrong, those guys make a great show, but they literally WORK for MotionRC, so 5-10% credibility max!
Too bad. Maybe they'll come around at some point.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Motion RC is run by two very wealthy families. They are just striving to be the best they can. Obviously, there are other companies. Who is working hard to achieve the same impact. My feeling is, it's wonderful to have different avenues to enjoy this sport. One might be a little "stuck up; per se. A modeler of my standards, I just really enjoy the opportunity. BYW, you have excellent skills. I'm sure Motion RC could use your expertise in the future. Keep it stupid simple (KISS) is what I'm saying. In 2014, I was invited to the RC Expo with Rich - RC Informer. We had a Blast! Also Micheal Herr and Pete. Pete was RC Informers camera person. We all did a lot to start building the RC community at that time. Super cool to hear from you. KIT. I'm just getting back into flying again. Cheers!
Another plane to add to my collection thanks as always keep up the good work.
Awesome! This is a keeper, for sure!
Really nice plane! So sad it has been discontinued (at least in Europe).
I enjoy the building process in your videos a lot, so informative and entertaining at the same time!
All the best from Germany!
If it's discontinued, it's for the upgrade to new Rx, so should be back soon.
In the mean time DRACO ;)
My husband has definitely beat it up lol!!! I have spent many hours helping him rebuild it! It is now like new.
Don’t know when you filmed this but I just put our tree up yesterday lol!! They are too pretty to put up!
Thanks Alesia! My wife was thinking about putting it away, but we just took all the cat toys off the tree and left it bare ;)
Fixing planes is a part of the hobby. Megan has helped me out with repairs a lot, but funny enough, it's one of the few areas where she doesn't get dragged in too often ;)
I've had this plane for nearly 2 years, and other than trouble with finding motor shafts and vibrating wheels, i have tons of fun with mine. This plane with a dx6e is perfect for low slow passes and one wheel touch and goes. Also, with the size and weight of these planes, I like to fly in 5-15 mph sustained and upper levels make for excellent soaring with 5200 lipo. That's right it will easily fly a 5200 with a bit of mod to the battery box with super snug fit. Great for stol on those heavy crosswind days too..
How the heck do you fit it in the battery tray!??!?!
@@BrianPhillipsRC the tray is the same size as the t-28 trojan 1600mm. There is a bit of foam to push in or dent a little, but the lipo fits snug up to the front as it should
Perfect day to throw some skis on the Valiant. 😉
Snow is melting...work has me busy ;(
I just finished building a UH1B huey helicopter conversion kit for my Blade 230S. It looks awesome in the air. Was enjoying your videos during the build. Nice tail dragged!
Thanks Keith! I bet it's cool!
@@BrianPhillipsRC oh it is. Had an old model huey gun ship laying around, took the m134A mini guns and rocket pods off it and am detailing them and mounting them to the RC huey. In the army I was lucky enough to get some rides on some old UH1 hueys that I was told by the crews had been to Vietnam and back. This was as the army was removing them from the inventory so I was lucky HQ was near one of the last operational huey units. I begged for a ride, was told ever Tuesday and Thursday evening. Guess what I did every Tuesday and Thursday evening? Riding in Hueys and taking pictures like a tourist in battle dress uniform. Had lots of fun. I had all my photons in a briefcase that I’d left in my car, someone broke into my car and stole the briefcase. All of my military memories were stolen from me. I hate thieves
I have 2 of these. One is stock and the other has larger bush wheels. The stock Valiant balances perfectly with a 1800 3S all the way back. Anything 2200 or larger will not balance and be nose heavy. Try a 1300 3S in the middle, and the plane is so light it is amazing. Still can get 4-5 minutes of aggressive flying.
I'll give it a try!
I got the Valiant after you did this review and im glad I got it. I wonder how many Valiants Horizon has sold since they came out years ago..probably 1000's! I like it because its efficient on 3s and very light on its feet, its the perfect size and easy to fly...great for learning intermediate flying.
Awesome Aaron! Glad to hear!!!
Great video Brian. I am in the process of rebuilding one that was given to me. I purchased a 45A Avian esc for it. Speaking of trying a plane out, I'm still waiting to see you fly the Aeroscout S. Keep up the great videos!!
I want to do it, but waiting for one to come & we'll keep them coming ;)
Hey Brian, I put a power switch on my valiant. I also put my bind plug outside the plane before I put the wing on. Cut a small slit with an exacto knife, put the bind plug wire in the slit with the bind plug just outside the fuselage, then put the wing on. Love your flights and radio set up. Just ordered the new RV-7 release thru your channel.
Nice! Good idea with the bind plug! Thanks Bill! We're excited to do the RV-7!
Just want to say how good i felt when you said it would be pretty incredible if you were flying in expert mode with the eachine war birds! :) I bought the p51d about 5 months ago and have been practicing in the local park and am indeed now flying relatively comfortably in expert mode. This was my first real attempt at flying and am loving it. I should add that I'm learning a lot from your channel Brian and you were one of a few that I took belief from that I could do this, so a big thank you!
I'm honored to have been a part in your adapting this hobby into your life. It's not easy, no matter what fool tells you any different ;) If you've advanced to "Expert" on the any of the 400mm Eachine Warbirds, you are doing GREAT! What's next for you Leo??? The Sky's the Limit - pun intended!
Seriously glad to hear you've stuck with it, and now you're on the precipice of the rest of your RC carer...the first part is the hardest, and most frustrating part, so now you just need to win the lottery so you can afford a good percentage of the planes you want to buy ;)
Thanks for being with us here Leo, and good luck in your continued addiction!
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks so much. I have both the volantex trainstar epoch and the pterasaur which I'm yet to fly at my local club but am already thinking about my next. I really really like the Horizon Hobby 1.2m P51d and the new 1.1m t28... it will probably be one of them. And you are right, it really is an addiction! In fact i'm completely obsessed. :)
Thank you for reviewing this plane I was waiting for a good review to come out to see if it was a good plane to buy, I got the plane but Instead of getting the NX6 I get the dx6e. Great reviews.
Hope you enjoy it! This plane is excellent. If you're on the fence, the only reason you should be, is that the T-28 1.1m is also so good ;)
Great video. One of my favorite flying planes. Makes a great float plane also.
I keep hearing how well it does floats! I will have to try it, but for what it's worth, we want a pond on this property, so if we can get one here, that would be SOOO cool!
How did you know I have been waiting for this?? It's like you read my dreams... I have been flying most of my life so it's not obvious that I would want a classically styled trainer type box with wings, but the Valiant has a certain appeal that's hard to explain to newcomers. So far every time I'v though of a model you've gone and bought it lol
I just used my "dream machine" here, and it said to do the Valiant ;)
looks like a super plane, another great job-Brian and Megan
Thanks!
The Valiant is the best kept secret in the E-Flite lineup, by far. It is fully aerobatic, largely due to the almost-symmetrical wing and minimal dihedral. The real fun thing for me is it looks like a trainer, but turns heads when it's maneuvering in the air. Plenty quick and oh-so-slow when the flaps are down. What more can you ask for? Nothing more fun than a sleeper that catches people by surprise. Kind of like the Tesla sedan that looks like grandma's car, but blows the doors off of almost anything out there. One con (in my opinion) is E-Flite's typical bottom-loading battery compartment. I really HATE having to turn the plane on its back to get the battery in place.
BTW - Regarding grass: I find the relatively small wheels and the wheel pants to be a hinderance to flying off of grass, at least in the Bermuda that is the norm here in Oklahoma.
Just wish I could handle mine - especially on landings - as well as you do. Really nice review. As always, thanks much for sharing.
Steve
Steve - Download the Valiant from the Knifedge "Swap Pages" and practice landings in various wind settings in RealFlight. Then in "real life" you can "grease" your landings for sure 👍😉
Nice! I too very much despise a bottom loading battery, BUT all is forgiven when you fly it!!!
Ro Me - Sure thing, the simulators help, but I prefer the real deal - takeoff and landing - 20-30 times per pack, and you'll have it down in a couple lipos.
One of my all time favorites! Just fun to stick bang it, or kite it.
Nice flying ! I got a simulator a few days ago after seeing your video on it . Wish I wouldn't of waited so long .
Hope you enjoy it! It will help you so much, but no substitute for REALLY flying ;)
Finally decided to try your expo / rates setup. Found out that on my DX6e the F switch is a 2 position. So using G.
Awesome! Glad you're trying it out. I bet you're kicking yourself now that you've tried, for waiting so long ;)
This is so awesome i watch it again. 👌😉 Wow what a control its on this plane. You had a kick ass flight.
Thanks! Glad you're enjoying it. This plane is very good, and with all the horrific weather, we have only been able to fly once!
@@BrianPhillipsRC i see it will soon be in the air again. 😁
Laughed pretty hard when you turned on the transmitter and it was showing the new T-28. Quickly pulled it away and cut back to mustang. 😀
This was filmed before we were allowed to show that video, so we had to be careful ;)
How do you measure control surface movement in mm? Is there a tool to do this with? Back into RC after many years absent. Starting with the Valiant 1.3. Thanks
I don't, but if you want to do it, there are tools for it...
Here's two examples...
Amazon - amzn.to/3wAGChb
Horizon Hobby - bit.ly/3q8nPY9
This was actually my second plane: I started with flite test foam boards that I crashed a few dozen times, then in bought the Valiant. Great plane! Although my receiver died on it this past weekend. 😠 When I get it back in the air, I'd like to try your flap mod.
That's a BUMMER! What happened?
@@BrianPhillipsRC Not sure: I flew 2 batteries through it, landed it, and only got the beeps from the ESC when I put a fresh battery in it. I tested all the servos, and swapped out the receiver and everything else checks out OK. So I guess my receiver fried? I'm just happy it happened on the ground! On the plus side, I guess the AR637T will be fun to play around with.
I'm so glad you got this plane. This is my favorites overall. Such a wide envelope of flight. Try her on a 4s, you will enjoy it more.
So she'll handle 4S just fine?
@@BrianPhillipsRC will the other eflite Valiant v1 handle 4s?
I'm not sure what esc it has? Maybe a 18amp or 30a or 40a
@@BrianPhillipsRC I have both their V1 & V2. Both handles 4s just fine. I get about 8 mins with my Spektrum 4s 2200mah. I have videos of my flights on 4s. It can chase down the Flightline twin motor planes with a 4s battery. I can even keep with some of the EDF's at the field too. I think you will really enjoy on a 4s. I am glad you did a review of this plane.
Great plane. Love mine
So glad you are Terry!
P.S. We hit 100K early this morning ;) Thanks for being a part of our success here on RUclips!
Oh the joys of articulating 4 planes in the back of my jeep wrangler! Ive got it down to an art stacking them perfectly around each other so nothing is getting bent or torn up. I just need to pull the trigger and get this plane..I have too many planes already why not get more rite!
You can never have too many planes ;)
Arguably the best flying, most versatile, capable planes on the market. 70mph level flight, but will also fly as slow you want to. Not another 3s plane like it out there. Must have!!!!
I was AMAZED how well she performed on a 3S!!!
Brian,
I just returned to the hobby after almost 15 years so I've been working (painfully) up the 2.4 GHz learning curve. Fond farewell ch18 Airtronics gear. I wish I had discovered your channel when I first rebooted because you and camera crew do the best job I've seen putting together model reviews that are just as educational as they are entertaining. So well produce! You've also tapped into the old wisdom that the golden hours of dawn and dusk provide the best light for photographing model airplanes like it does almost everything else. Two requests: 1) I made some mistakes in selecting the Spectrum receivers I initially bought to replace my Airtronics gear, eg., ordering several 636Bs before understanding how tedious the programming could be. Several of your reviews videos have helped educate me along with the Spektrum website, but it would be nice to have a video that focuses on receiver selection, forward programming, etc. And 2) Even as an old timer (the donkey's we rode to school were replaced by school buses by 6th grade), I like the Horizon flying coffee cups. I really lie the Valiant as a great vehicle to do a hobby reboot with. But since I believe you live close to SigMfg, how about a field trip for you and camera crew over to Montezuma. Maybe they would give you their somewhat new T-Clips ARF similar to the one I have in a box in the garage waiting for a build this fall. Anyway you guys are great for the hobby. I recommend you often at my club field. Keep it up!
Joe Gist
Thanks Joe, and welcome! So much to learn, and everyone in the hobby assumes we've all been in it from the beginning, but so many haven't!!! That has given birth to this very strange and amazing opportunity that you're watching, our RUclips channel!
So glad we got connected here, and I like you're ideas. We have so many videos, you might spend a few lifetimes watching them all, so if you want forward programming, we have much of it, but you'll have to take note of the planes that at PNP vs BNF...we just did the Ultra Stick the other day - great example of VERY detailed Radio Setup. Also, we did a flapperon equipped EDF Jet, the XFly T-A7 just the other day also... just to name a few. We have tons more coming.
Here's the caveat to my Radio Setup. If you want stabilization (AS3X) or SAFE (auto leveling) which we showcase almost exclusively, you will want to get these receivers for now...
With AS3X/SAFE...
AR631 bit.ly/3pYNC3c (there's also one without an antenna for like $5 less - I'll get the antenna - LOL)
AR637T bit.ly/3pW3u86
AR8360T bit.ly/3dKg4n6
Here's a few examples of receivers with telemetry, but no AS3X and SAFE...
AR6610T bit.ly/33SYkA0
AR620 bit.ly/2QUlyCd
If you want to learn how to setup these little guys, they are so easy, just follow along on a couple planes, and you'll be an expert, I promise!
Stay tuned Joe - more to come!!! Thanks for being here with us!
@@BrianPhillipsRC
Thanks Brian. I just spent a week of wasted time trying to program SAFE and A3X into one of the AR636s I still have (I was able to send 3 back). Very frustrating. kept getting so close with both the mobile app and the computer link but there was always something not quite right. Watched all Spectrum and Air Marshal's videos but ultimately I was humbled and threw in the towel. It hurt because I'm a retired PhD nuclear engineer who used to design Navy submarine and aircraft carrier power plants. But It beat me. Good news is I just ordered 4 AR 631s via your link. look forward to trying again with forward programing on my NX8. I do see you have lots of videos that go over AR631 progaraming, Keep up the good work.
Joe Gist
I read where some of the Valiants the motor mount wasn't glued in right from the factory and the motor fell out in flight. I have a new one but the mount seems to be tight.
I heard someone complaining that it can rip off....I guess I'll hang it from the prop before I fly it again ;)
Wow...Ive been waiting!!!!!!
It is here ;)
FYI I used your amazon link just now to order this.
Thanks so much for your support!!!
Best on 4s and on floats. I love that plane.
Cool! We need a pond!!!
Mine are tough to screw in. Get the screw drivers 1 through 3. Big handles. You can easily crush the foam holding on the plane to tight. Especially the tail feathers
yeah, it's a tough thing to balance, holding tight enough to get the job done, but not destroying stuff!
Hi Brian does the nx6 transmitter have a voice set-up on it were it takes to u and say how much battery etc
Yes, just go to BrianPhillipsRC and follow the voice in the video ;)
Wait, I probably should have answered "no" - forgive my indulgence.
Great video, I usually get 11 minutes out of a Turnigy 2300 mah. pack.
That's nice!
Your channel is the best! Maybe during the 2nd thoughts video you could demonstrate how to buddy box, and have a new pilot (your camera crew) take this one up!
I don't even know how to buddy box - maybe I should figure out ;)
All my non-UMX planes with Spektrum receivers are programmed with SAFE Select, AS3X, and No Gyro on the C switch prior to the maiden. It's much easier now with the series of Forward Programming receivers. I use SAFE Select as my Panic Recovery mode, Re-Orient mode, and sometimes Launch mode. This way, I always know where the switch is located.
After watching your video, I've set my Valiant up for 32003S packs at the same control surface positions, but with less deflection. Time to see how that does. The 4000 packs are a bit too heavy for my liking. Besides, I don't have too many of them. The the 3200s are only 2 ounces more than the 2200s, not 4 like the 4000s. Also, this plane has zero issues on grass.
Just watch that tail wheel. It only clips in and breaks off very easily. Mine snapped off during transport to the field and had to be Foam-Tac'd. Haven't had an issue since.
BUMMER! I hate when planes break on the way out!!!
Awesome plane thought!
Hey brian, how would you compare this to the carbon cub s +???
I still havent flown my valiant yet and kinda lookin for insight on what to expect.
Thanks!
Simpler to setup and fly, but flies faster and significantly more aerobatic.
Its a fun plane and batteries last a long time.
Hi Brian, would I be able to bind this plane to a DX6i radio? The standard overview (on retailer websites) states 'the simple procedure for assigning a transmitter switch to turn SAFE Select features on and off doesn't require any complex programming and takes just a few seconds' 'If you don't want to enable the SAFE Select features, just bind the receiver normally and it will function like a standard AS3X receiver'. Is this possible on the DX6i and if so, which switch would you recommend to use? Channel 5 (gear/f mode) or the aux (flap/giro)?
Sure, no problem at all. Just basically do the same as me, but when you bind, just do the AS3X only method. It's pretty easy.
Keep in mind, you don't have RETRACTS, so you could also bind with SAFE and use GEAR channel for SAFE Select if you wish.
Either way, good luck, and enjoy!!!
@@BrianPhillipsRC Built my Valiant 1.3m and set it up with the DX6i (including SAFE on/off using the gear switch (as you suggested). Took it to the field this morning and had a maiden flight and a further battery (buddied up to a more experienced flyer) - loved it!! Very nice flyer and coped with some breeze quite well. Easy to see up high with the 'zebra' striping. Oh, and I fly in non-SAFE mode from the off! One curious thing was happening - the other guy used my dx6i (as the slave) and I had his DX9 as the master. When he 'took control' (via holding the trainer switch in), it would be cause the flaps to be deployed!! Any idea why?
No they have them. I have a huge Sig Racall 80. Love it. Sig is still around as of 2021.
Love Rascalls! I want the 120" one ;)
On my real Cessna 150 it has 40 degrees of flaps and that makes a big difference. Nice strong landing gear.
Sweet! I've heard you can land a Cessna 150 at something like 55-65 mph...is this true?
@@BrianPhillipsRC On my plane it is right at 60 mph. One reason why I bought it if an off airport landing I want to be as slow as possible. But cruses at 120 not bad.
Hi,just got the h king walrus, great motor glider! might look into geting the valiant!Nice vid.
I've heard it's nice! But I always kinda thought it was a bit Clunky looking....weird how tastes change when you get into this hobby about 100+ planes ;)
Brian, not too long after getting my Valiant, I decided to remove the wheel spats (basically because I don't particularly like them). The factory supplied wheels are approx 6cm in diameter and I'm finding it almost impossible to take off on the grass strip at my club. I know there is a lot of choice out there, but wondered if you suggest some bigger, chunkier ones that I could fit to the plane to improve my chances on take off? Thank you.
Make sure they're light...pnematic tires will be heavy, but there's some sponge filled "ultra-light" dubro's in smaller sizes... I used them on the V2 Viper 70mm...
some of the best landing gear on this bird
They are nice and strong!
So……. for a second plane (started on the Aeroscout): Arrows Bigfoot or HH Valiant? If it makes much of a difference, I do NOT have a paved runway at 90% of the places I fly.
Hummmmm - from an unpaved strip - Big Foot might be a better fit.
Have you considered the Timber Evo 1.5m ??? Sorry to muddy the waters, but it is a major "go to" for many, and I can say, as much as the Valiant and Big Foot are amazing choices, the Timber Evo 1.5m is simply amazing...and a great value...JUST A THOUGHT...but to answer you actual question...Big Foot would be better suited if those are you two choices.
Arrows Bigfoot bit.ly/3oyKrlz + AR620 bit.ly/3z7WDO0
Timber bit.ly/3OjD6jf (
I always push the battery as far rearward as it can go. Any 3S battery. CG has never been a "too tail heavy" issue.
Okay. This plane seems very happy with whatever you can squeeze into the battery try ;)
I really digg how you do your videos you show flight footage before building kool
Thanks! That was a long time gripe of many of our subscribers and viewers, but I bucked for a long time siting that "why would anyone watch the unbox and build" - well, I was technically right - LOL - but the audience won on that one ;)
You Got The BEST Build Videos!!! Do Dynam Sbach 342 RTF Build Video!
Thanks! Dynam planes are such a pain to build, but they can turn out pretty nice. We'll put it on our tentative list.
I can't thank you enough for making this video! I'm a beginner in this hobby and really have no help trying to figure out all this stuff.
I saved this to my library for when I finally put this baby together ❤ I have the dx8e and dx6i radios. I won't use the 6 on this plane.
Also could you explain what ballooning is & a few other terms you used during flight.
upon initiating flaps you typically get a "ballooning" or floating upwards effect which is why you would mix some down elevator in, also why you want a slight delay on flaps.
Glad I could help! Ballooning is when the flaps come down, the plane acts as though you had pulled back on the elevator, and the plane climbs (like a balloon). This is compensated by using an FLAP to ELEVATOR correction in "Flap Mode".
Keep the questions coming. I'll try to help you out how I can Rick!
yes, ลรรђ๏lэ byПΛƬЦЯΣ ;)
MY 1st real plane that reignited my flying passion! With take off flaps, 3s 2200, off the ground in 2 seconds! HAD to use bigger tires & remove my pants for grass. It's got me ready to remove safe! (IF I crash it next flight,) I would buy another one in a heartbeat!
Sure!
Awesome instructional videos Brian!! After watching this video, I got inspired and bought a Valiant from Horizon Hobby in early March 2021 but had not built it yet. I also watched some past videos on the Valiant and people were mentioning engine vibration issue on the Valiant where the whole front cowl and engine broke apart from the plane.. Just wondering if you had any issues so far with the vibration issue. Your thought is appreciated before I built and start flying my Valiant. Thanks.
Awesome! Not an issue for me so far, but if a lot of people have issues, it could stem from a balance issue on the prop, or a lot of prop strikes??? Who knows.
@@BrianPhillipsRC I am having a blast flying the Valiant thanks to your inspired video and instruction setup. I have a question that need some clearing.. in this video during your Dual Rate and Expo setting, you are setting all Airelon, Elevator, and Rudder all to Switch F. Does that mean with one switch F (to 0,1,2) we can control all Airelon, Elevator and Rudder in just one switch? Shouldn't it be separately assign to different switches, such as Airelon to F, Elevator to C, Rudder to G.. That is what I am confused about.. Thanks.
I picked the Valiant up in 2019 and you told me to hang on because you'd be releasing the video soon. It's still in the box...lol. I actually forgot I even had it. I guess it's time to bring it to life. I have heard that the motor pod detaches in flight in a certain batch of these planes. Apparently they weren't glued correctly? I don't remember the exact issue but it's worth a check during the build. My math teacher hammered "between every two points, there is a point" into my head in school. She must have said that to me every day because (besides making me write times tables every night) that's all I remember from her class. Are you filling in the bowl? Great flight and set up, y'all. Thanks!
No, you'll have to wait and see...just like us ;)
Hi from England, new sub here. Enjoying your videos, keep up the good work!
Thanks R B & Welcome!
Awesome vid Brian! Quick question, can I take the sd card from my DX6 and put it into the NX6 and have my models load up easily?
You can do it, but don't think the files will necessarially transfer over. I know it sucks bad, but not 100% sure you can import them. I haven't tried yet, but have about 75-100 in my DX18 to transfer over, and have been too lazy to make the transition!
@@BrianPhillipsRC If you make a short vid about it or incorporate it into a flight review, I and many others would appreciate it ty =]
Could you do a review on the fms pc 21 I want to see if it’s right for me
I like it, but it's not on my short list. Loads of new stuff coming that will be SUPER good! I can't wait to share some of it!!!
What radio do you recommend for most E-FLITE/FMS planes, a NX6 or NX8. Meaning channels, it appears most of the E-FLITE only need 7ch and NX6 does that. But the difference in price is only $50. Would do you think would be the best thing to do. NX6 or NX8.
I think the additional channel may be helpful, but to be totally honest, it's the Pre-Order status that makes up most people's mind in this regard...
I agree the few extra bucks in a no brainer for the additional channel (and KNOB too...)
NX bit.ly/3mbVuNB
I would normally say "Get both" but that's not smart...get the NX10 ;) If you're pre-ordering, maybe that's the best move???
@@BrianPhillipsRC thank you for the info, I will not be needing it for a little while, so waiting till it available will be no problem.
P.s. I love your video's, you and camera crew keep up the great work.
Love the videos. Your a great pilot and got a great camera wife. Ever hit the telephone wires? Keep the videos coming!
Thanks! We appreciate you being here with us. I HAVE hit the power lines on a couple occasions. The power lines won - LOL ;)
I flew the Carbon Z Cub SS 2.1m into them, kinda got blown UP into them on a final, and just kept flying for about 5 more minutes before an uneventful landing. I also flew into the lines with a Cessna Citation Longitude UMX, and it was a bit more devastating, but I had it fixed that evening...I had been shooting takeoffs and landings, over and over again, and I misjudged the height, and SMACK, right into the power lone ;(... BUT all is well! She's flying again!
Can you actually bind a BNF Horizon plane without safe and without AS3X? (Not that I would want to do that, but I am just asking, because I think the answer is no... but with a PNP plane and spektrum receiver I guess you could get a third flight mode, or is this also possible with forward programming so you get on flight mode without AS3X and without safe?)
Without SAFE, yes, but without AS3X no. There is a way to shut it off, but you have to default the Rx.
Yes - PNP you CAN default the Rx too....or just get the simpler, cheaper version. AS3X is not cheap.
BNF CAN be made to run on NO STABILIZATION...but it's a lot of work
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks, I was just curious, I always buy BNF and fly with safe select and AS3X.
How do you compare it to the Turbo Timber and STOL specifically?
It is smaller, more prone to stall (without LE slats). It's less impressive, but only flew her on 3S... The Timber is quite a lot more plane, but still very capable The Valiant is more maneuverable, and flies inverted better.
The Valiant is a lower price point, BUT WITHOUT FLOATS! So they're super similar in a side by side comparison.
The Timber has LED's and this does not - That's a BIG deal to me, but some people won't care.
Timber edges out this plane in STOL performance, but flies more scale...the Timber is almost TOOO easy (if that makes sense).
Timber has WAY better landing gear, but not to say the Valiant has bad gear - they are very good, and plenty adequate for most circumstance... The Larger tires and wheels on the Timber aren't soft enough and they end to get "wiggly" over time...something I hate...but these wheels will be blocked by the beautiful, scale looking, wheel pants. So not sure which plane to assign victory on the gear.
They are both great planes. I feel like they're both a great value. They BOTH belong in any serious RC fanatic's hangar ;)
This plane costs 200$ here in my city right now. I must buy it 😁
Ok
Took this one for a flight yesterday, I love the profile of the landing gear
Me too!
What propeller would recomend for the original timber 1.5m besides the 12x4 stock one?
13X6.5 was what I was running and it was CRAZY!
@@BrianPhillipsRC do you still use it and has it caused any problems long term?
The only thing I didn’t like about it the wheel pants would get stuck when taking off in the grass so changed the wheels out to the big bush wheels and no more nose plants and now I don’t get caught with my pants down haha
I hate it when that happens ;) Some wear it as a badge of "honor" - LOL
Love your videos Brian, I’m trying to decide between this Valiant or the Turbo Timber Evo….I can only afford 1 plane, which should I go for in your opinion?
My 2 Cents. I don't want to take anything away from the Valiant (it is good...we JUST re-reviewed it)...but the Turbo Timber Evo has a bit more features.
Timber bit.ly/3cEjplB
Valiant bit.ly/3rUTtsn
JUST keep in mind the TT is 1.5m and the Valiant is only 1.3m...so you might have less trouble transporting the Valiant.
Brian I’m getting one soon. What do you think about putting Flyzone Carbon Cub S2 tier set on it, get a set of floats. O a Timber spring set just for extra strength on gear. A Valiant Bush👍🏻✌🏻🖖🏻 Love your aircraft videos 👍🏻
Thanks!
Cool very nice plane this. 👌😁
It sure is!
1:32:59 I just looked up what battery Horizon recommends - 1300-3000mAh 3S LiPo flight battery. I went middle ground and got the 2200.
True - GOOD call ;)
it is 6 days later. Got the plane and put it together last night. It was simple to put together, BUT without a servo tester finding the right wires for ailerons and flaps was difficult. It would be nice if they were pre-labeled. 2nd difficult part was getting the tail section fully tight. My club president noticed I didn't get the screws tight enough and the tail was floppy. He suggested I take it off and run the screws into the holes without the tail on first. That worked. Also, brand new battery connectors are very tight and need some effort to fully seat. Other than those few issues. I am happy I now have a plane that has a hard time fitting into my pickup :D
17:14 Does someone knows why the flaps servo produce this sound ?
When the servo gets "between" positions, they will sometimes fight to get in the right spot. This is only an issue if they're FIGHTING a mechanical bind, then it can cause the motors to burn out!
I got this radio today and did the update then tried to add that new UMX A10 ,and it only had the old UMX A10 on there ? Is it the same because the eflu number was different
I'm not sure...I don't do the BNF profiles... We have a video setting it up, maybe just walk through that one???
@@BrianPhillipsRC I did watch it for sure love your vids man just had a hard time seeing the whole process on my phone and was a little fast for a beginner a tad bit . I'm not a beginner flyer just a beginner to spektrum so its that learning curve for me lol ...
Maybe I'll try watching it up on the tv next
Hey Brian, how easy or not would it be to drop those wheel pants and mount larger STOL style wheels? Personally I think it would look cooler and also allow for grass take offs and landings. Also, would add the additional weight that you felt might benefit this bird. Wadaya think?
Easy! Just don't go too big or too small, and you'll be golden!
One more comment but off topic... what do you think of RamyRC’s G650? So freaking beautiful.
I think that Ramy is amazingly skilled, and his planes are absolutely beautiful! I also think they would be hugely impractical to enjoy. The harder it is to fly, the less you will fly the plane. I bet he's got 10-15 flights on any of his plane that he spend MONTHS of meticulous HARD work on...so from that standpoint, he is crazy, but from the fact that he's working with his wife, and doing what he loves, and making a good living - he's brilliant!
Good for Ramy. ALL of his planes are AMAZING!
Brian, would you go with this, a turbo timber evolution, a consendo evolution for a brand new pilot, or is there another plane you’d advise?
This or the Concendo would be great choices, but the Conscendo Evo with a 3S pack would get you an "easier" point of entry....I THINK.
Both are great planes. Both come with SAFE SELECT. I love either choice. Pick whichever one looks better to you.
Make sure if you go with the Conscendo Evo, you GET A 3S and 4S pack. You don't want to push it, and on 3S the Conscendo Evo is still going to seem REALLY FAST when you're at the sticks...TRUST ME!

@@BrianPhillipsRC i appreciate your take on it. I’m honestly torn on which one, might end up with both
Great video Brian! I see that this is a 5+ channel airplane on Horizon Hobby's website. I have a DX5e, could I fly this plane with my transmitter? If so, what would that look like as far as Safe Select? Could I bind the plane in Safe mode and I would just leave it in safe mode/ bind it without Safe and fly completely without Safe?
You can bind to your DX5e, but I must say, you'll wish you had 7 channels so you can take full advantage of SAFE Select.
Have you considered the NX8? It's a lot of money, but it's a once in a couple to three years investment, and you will use it sooooooo much!!!
Getting into a nice transmitter will take that off the list of things holding you back. I was there once, so I GET IT...you want a plane...not a tool, but you will enjoy every plane more if you have a better transmitter - NOT trying to sell you on it...just want you to have the best experience possible.
NX bit.ly/3mbVuNB
P.S. NX6 is actually 7 channel, but if you get the NX8 you get one more channel, a top dial knob, and a lanyard. for like $40 more...just get the NX8 if you're serious about the NX6. I can't implore you enough...there's planes out there you want, but you will be fighting tooth and nail to do it with a 5 channel tx.
Hi Brian, Can you briefly put on here the rates and expo that you use for the Valiant, as in the video your camera girl used doesn`t get quite close enough to read the transmitter also how far does the elevator go up and down, as on my valiant it goes down ok but only a little up. I got my sound sorted by a Spektrum agent in England called Logic RC Ltd they are very good. Eddie.
1) If you're in SAFE, the control surfaces will move LESS far. This is normal. When you're OUT of SAFE (AS3X Stabilization Only) You'll notice they move more.
2) As for Dual Rates and Expo... I use the same generic settings on virtually every plane, then make adjustments, but I can't remember every setting on every plane...as we're up to probably 200+ aircraft right now. If you run in Slow Motion sometimes it's easy to see what we're doing, or even HEAR what I'm saying, as it does go quick.
One more question where can I find a stand like that?
Plane Stand bit.ly/3bdD1O4
What made you enjoy flying ✈ RC so much Bri? Would love some back story into why/when you started to appreciate flying..
I think a lot of your subs would be interested in a Vlog of back history 😊 cheers from Pete in 🇬🇧
PS. I have the Valiant and one of my favourite flyers with the aeroscout.
I bought the arrows p51 @the end of the summer and have not flown it yet, it's got no stabilisation and I've not flown anything without a top wing setup.. Not sure about Maiden.
Are you flying the new version of the Valiant I know horizon have brought out upgraded versions of all there best planes with telemetry? Will the old version take 4s
I don't think this is the "upgraded" version, as it's got the AR636A receiver installed in it.
Brian I have one more question you said you look into it if you could fly that plane on 4 S ? By any chance did you ever find out? Please let me know before I toast my plane.
I have not found any evidence from Horizon Hobby that suggest 4S are to be used...but I kinda just assume the 3S is "enough" and you could probably get away with it.
Sorry but when I look into stuff, sometimes I don't find much to report back :(
