Such gorgeous scenery on this hike Brian and whilst not the perfect photography conditions it was a pleasure to take in the area and soak up that alpine atmosphere with you on the trip. I liked the abstract images and the downed logs scene but the area as a while is breathtaking…as was the dip by the sound of it ! Can’t believe you didn’t follow and jump in ! A beautiful view doesn’t always make a beautiful photograph indeed but it was really enjoyable to take in those vistas and follow you on your adventure 👍🏻😊
Thanks Andrew, I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it! I do wish the conditions were a little more photography friendly, but it was more of a vacation day than dedicated photo outing so I’m not complaining 😎. That water was so unimaginably cold… it actually was painful when I walked in up to my knees! I got cooled off enough just from that haha. The next couple mornings we found some great spots though, so better conditions to come 👍
Really nice video man, I felt like I was on vacation with you! The first two compositions you got were great. Really liked the light on the rock face and the bark patterns. Great video as always!
Looks like a beautiful trail, I feel once you can accept that sometimes the light won’t work for a certain scenes you can just take in the moment. Really like that shot of the mountain face and the close up of the bark. Nice work with what you had
Thanks Tim! Totally agree, acknowledging the fact that the light won’t be perfect really helps me to step out of photo mode and more into hiking/vacation mode. Frankly sometimes that’s way more enjoyable 😎. The next couple mornings had much better conditions though!
I wish I could hike there one day, so amazing! The 100-400 II is one of my favourite lenses as well for some detail shots, love the narration & the b-rolls in all of your videos. Nice production! Cheers:)
Amazing scenery from that hike, I don't blame you for not jumping into the cold water in that lake! For a while I've been using just two lenses, RF 24-105mm and the EF 100-400mm (with that was lighter), although I am tempted by the RF 100-500mm.
Thanks Russ! I have heard great things about that rf 24-105. Of all the new lenses that’s the one I’d actually get if I needed to replace my 24-70. The 100-400 is my favorite lens but it is way too heavy for really long hikes!
Hey Brian, I really liked the small details you got on this hike! Love that tree bark as well as the granite details. I think you posted one on IG that you didn't put here? but it's really nice too. Great job!
Thanks Scott! I did consider putting that third one in, but didn’t have any video about that one at all unfortunately. The others i at least had a little context. Next time I’ll just add those extras in at the end anyway 😎. Still learning how I like to best combine everything into videos
Summer photography is just hard time schedule. It doesn't matter how long you've been doing it. Shooting sunset at 9-10pm then waking up at 4-5am is always difficult.
That’s so true. The late sunsets and early sunrises make sleeping about impossible during the summer months. I’ve found myself only doing one or the other from June - September.
@@brianbeattyphotography depending on what I'm doing I try to take naps during the day but it's so dang hot in the summer and I don't usually stay in hotels.
The wake up struggle is real! Thank god for good coffee!
Haha so true! Thanks Travis. It especially makes a big difference before road trips!

Thanks Peter! It's a super lens for sure. Hope you get a chance to someday hike the John Muir area!
