Welcome back to the Foxhole. Thanks for coming back with this suggestion. It's one of the few MV that really worth to watch for the first time and understanding the meaning of the song just a little bit by heart.
"Karate" is one of their stronger weapons along with "Road Of Resistance" from 2nd album "Metal Resistance" released in 2016. It's an uplifting song about keep fighting besides the obstacles no matter what, and if you take a closer look at the end you'll see in the eyes of their rivals that they're fighting against no other than themselves.
Some fans also find anime vibes on BabyMetal songs, the only other song I could find with anime vibes besides this one and "Divine Attack - Shingeki", is "Syncopation" another banger.
They watched several footage before making this song, one of those were "Karate Kid" old movie, that's why you see MoaMetal catching a bug, that's a reference to the movie, after this she became the bug catcher expert when traveling on live tour lol. The bats and the concrete blocks testing strength is another infamous Karate reference.
Btw just in case, the band playing behind in this MV are hired actors, they got their own set of musicians when performing live called Kami Band, they're not always the same musicians but since last year they've been playing with a westerners band unlike early era after 2012 when they had a Japanese band.
You can enjoy the live version with the blaster sound of the East Kami Band watching Download Festival 2016 among many others but this one is safe to react. They've been playing this at the recent Europe Tour and they did it like never before plus new super cool outfits or battle dresses, it was really beautiful and you can find some proshot clips around of some of those festivals such Rock Am Ring, Graspop or Pinkpop.
Also another cool version to watch and meet the new Metalverse subgroup is Karate live at PIA Arena MM 2023, they got their own songs but you can start with this introduction.
    Next suggestion:
    - Road Of Resistance live in Japan official MV (2015).
They recently announced they will be at Knotfest Brazil for the first time in South America in October, and hopefully more countries nearby, they also confirmed Mexico the second week of November as a special guests for Slipknot, can't wait for Brazil and I'm preparing myself to enjoy that show.
    See you next time 🦊🤘🔥

Babymetal have some songs, like Karate, where they use the cuter voices and some where they do not. Up until very recently, you won't hear any real growl vocals from these girls so they cannot be compared to Hanabie. That's fine with me because I've never been a fan of female growl vocals anyway. For less cute singing maybe try Rondo of Nightmare (make sure you watch the 'With Mischiefs of God' intro), or Road of Resistance. For more recent songs, Divine Attack or Metal Kingdom. All live of course.

The “I was not expecting this” and “WTF did I just watch” are the typical reactions among first-time BABYMETAL viewers. A lot of their songs tend to get that - even after you watch a few of them! Anyway . . . .
You’ve opened a can of worms!
BABYMETAL has an extensive history (and lore) which I won’t get into but a quick synopsis: they’ve been around since 2010, and started when their lead singer - known as Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) - was about twelve, and the two "cheerleaders" (officially "scream and dance" (backing vocals)) - Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) and Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) - were both around eleven. Unfortunately, Yui left the group in 2018 because of health concerns, and early in 2023 Momoko Okazaki (Momometal) was named a member of the group. They do not play instruments but are backed by the Kami Band - session musicians who are among the best that Japan (and the U.S.) has to offer.
BABYMETAL started a brand new genre of music ("kawaii metal" - cute metal), and they cannot be pigeon-holed - they are almost always thinking and moving outside box; they made listening to metal FUN! They have, to date, four studio albums with over fifty songs, and have been on a number of world tours. It is common knowledge among their devoted fans (known as "The One") that BABYMETAL is best served live, but they do have several music videos that are real works of art. I suggest you go back to the beginning, and react to their first two music videos, "Doki Doki Morning" and "Iine!" (pronounced "E-nay"), both released in 2012. You’ll notice those are the first two on this list of recommended songs (with links to suggested versions). The first sixteen are from what I've come to call "The Golden Age of BABYMETAL" (better known as "The Yui Era"). This list also includes all four songs of the BABYMETAL sub-group Black BABYMETAL (just Yui and Moa while Su is taking a break):

You can use my RUclips playlist “BABYMETAL Top Twenty” (ruclips.net/p/PLdhz2aj0pt4zPl0BZLevPUR9uHKQA27uj ) as a quick link to all of these videos; it is a mix of MV’s and live performances, is more or less in historical sequence, and could be considered a road map down the BABYMETAL foxhole. If nothing else, it can be used as a reference to find high quality versions of BABYMETAL songs without mucking about - if they are on the list. Anyway . . . .
Another recommendation (read "challenge"): react to an entire BABYMETAL concert. I suggest:
    "Legend 1997 Apocalypse" ruclips.net/p/PLdBAj9hZ91wCao72oSqTMLrGpIDOqzR2Q
    and/or
    "Budokan Black Night" (2014) ruclips.net/p/PLdBAj9hZ91wBwsBfjsKH9zWxA5YOOUkSI
Both concerts are, in a word, incredible.
A technical suggestion, if I may: when you pause, go back about five or ten seconds before resuming, that way you regain the flow of the song. You may or may not know that if you tap your keyboard space bar once it will pause the video, another tap will resume play. Also, if you tap the left arrow key once, it will rewind the video five seconds (a second tap for another five seconds), and tapping the right arrow key will advance the video five seconds. This may also help baffle the YT copyright police. Also, you shouldn't have to pause the video any more than three times. Just sayin'. Anyway . . . .
Enjoy your trip down the foxhole! (You're in for a wild ride!!!)
Keep rockin' BABYMETAL!!! (Sorry about the wall!)
    KITSUNE UP!!! 🤘🦊🤘

Welcome back, good reaction. As far as comparing BABYMETAL to other bands ... you can't really because they are original and unique, they created their own sub-genre fusing metal with JPop hooks, melodies and aesthetics and there is no other band quite like them (although some have tried to do what they do - none has come close so far). It may take 3, possibly 4, songs for your ear and mind to adjust to what they are doing and how different it is. Once that happens you should be able to look beyond how different it is to realising how good it is and to see and hear the talent, heart, passion and quality they have.
With your comparisons - Band Maid are basically a hard rock band and very good at what they do, but all they have in common with BABYMETAL is being Japanese and female. Hanabie (admittedly this is based on the little I've heard - maybe two or three songs) seems more disjointed and to have much more cutesy vocals with some growls/screams thrown in for the sake of it because they have a girl who growls/screams.
Since they started nearly 14 years ago in 2010 BABYMETAL have gone on to mix and blend so many more styles with the metal - and they don't just stick to one style of metal, they can (and do) do them all.
'Karate' was the lead single for their second album (2016) - as such it is probably one of their more straightforward songs as far as the composition goes, it is also probably one of the more "radio-friendly" songs.
The "seiya" and "soya" parts sung by the two younger girls (those were their natural young voices at the time other than in the studio recordings they always seem to be compressed and over-produced - I don't know why, but it is not to make them sound artificially cutesy like you might get with some Japanese artists) are the parts the crowd will sing along or join in with in live performances.
Lead singer Su-metal also sounds so much better and more powerful in live performances where they don't mess about with her voice the way they do in the studio.
The song is about fighting adversity, when life knocks you down and everything seems too hard so you're hurt and crying, its about standing up and fighting on, helping each other through the hard times.
They used karate to illustrate this because as a Japanese martial art it reflects their culture - that was a very important thing for them as well. As with a lot of their songs it is also about always moving forwards.
The figures in white were the girls all along and they were conjuring up their own inner demons to fight against. They beat the first, the second knocked them down but they got up to eventually defeat themselves (did you notice the reflections of each of the girls in their own eyes when the masks shattered and it was revealed as them? Not many people spot that).
They did watch a lot of martial arts movies to get ideas for the choreo as they wanted it to look as authentic as possible (but they are not martial artists). Moa catching the fly was a nod to Mr Miyagi in The Karate Kid. Mr Miyagi may have used chop sticks (and it may have taken him two or three films before he caught one), Moa caught her fly with her eyes closed - first time .... and she let it go. We all know Moa wouldn't hurt a fly.
This song and video won 2 awards. "Best Metal Video in MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2016" and "Best Metal Song in 6th Annual Loudwire Music Awards".
They have songs you will like a lot more - and maybe some you will like less. What they will do is they will surprise you ... and live BABYMETAL is where they are always at their best.
Try 'Mirror Mirror' live at PIA Arena 2023, I think that will appeal more to you.

Ive been a metal fan for over three decades now. I grew tired of the angry man animal noise demon vocals as bands just keep doing it over and over. I quite enjoy the lighter vocals and found it refreshing. The fact they aren't trying to be a traditional metal band is also what I like, they have never claimed to be something they aren't.

come will complain you didnt do a live version. But I for one like this MV because as a non Japanese speaking person, it better explains the song than watching a live performance where it just looks like fighting. The video helps you understand it's a story about overcoming obsticales. And if you gte knocked down you have to get back up again. And sometimes your biggest obsticle is yourself. Did you notice with the reveal of the figures in white, when they showed the close ups, you could see the reflection of each person in thier eye?
