Ben Solo Luke had Anakins saber but Darth Vader cut off his hand and it fell into the vacuum of space and he built a new one. So the real question is how the hell Maz found that one floating around in space...
TJP Real --- Yeah, I saw the new one already. This is exactly how Luke is. Major spoiler, there's a scene where Rey is fighting Kylo Ren and he cuts off her hand. He said, "No one ever told you what happened to your family. Your mother. Your father." then she said, "N-no! You don't know anything!" then Kylo said, "I know. Oh, I know. It's because I am your father." then Rey said, "What, no. I know that's not true!" then he said, "It's true. You're one with the force. You were created… using midichloreans." then…
Maybe. Though I could just as easily hear it as polite excitement since he knows that is the expected response. There are a lot of fans here that are trying really hard to project their own nostalgia onto Mark Hamill.
roger that is true I guess. However I feel if she is related to Luke, Luke would have trained her, he wouldn't have abandoned her. so if she is related to him I don't think Luke knows it. Or her memory somehow got erased or if she was left on Jakku by someone it wasn't her real family. because if Luke is her family, and he left her on Jakku, she would have remembered him. lots of possibilities. only time will tell. I'm hoping whatever it is it's not just simply "oh hey Luke is your father" or "hey Leia and Han are your parents"
He didn’t know how it worked. All the electronics were removed by the time it was used for him in ROTJ because it was made to hang on his belt in that movie. Alec Guinness on the other hand would know everything on how it works because this was his special effects lightsaber. Luke had a different stunt Saber that worked differently.
Well, to be fair, Mark had used it before. And even if he dropped/broke it that would probably just increase the value lol. I mean, before it was "just Mark's old lightsaber prop." Then it would be "Mark's old lightsaber prop that he hadn't seen in over 30 years that he happened to drop." It's the value of a good ironic situation.
Yeh I just thought about tht as well haha, how did he not get to keep it considering it was his lightsaber, I don’t really consider his lightsaber in new hope and empire strikes back his because it was technically anakins lightsaber, so for like I liked the green one better imo
Wait... so did the idea for the ancient proto-sabers in EU Legends come from the fact that they used wires and batteries on the set for the movie? If so that's pretty cool.
Nah Lucas actually discovered ancient texts describing everything in Star Wars and blue prints for the proto saber and regular saber. Star Wars is essentially a documentary
The Gray Owl No it wasn’t. You can’t have it both ways. The point of the movie is still Rey’s growth. Luke was treated as if episode 6 never happened. It’s fine if they kill Luke. Hell I don’t even care if they made Rey and Kylo stronger than him (it’s stupid, but I get it). They purposefully shit on what made Luke the greatest Jedi to have ever lived (has been called that) and “what Vader could never be”. The whole point of Luke is his ability to save anyone and everyone. And Kylo isn’t NEARLY as sunk as Vader was. The entire idea is so stupid it’s not only cringeworthy, but some of the most idiotic character misinterpretation ever
@@thegrayowl1557 The point of the movie? To what, destroy Luke Skywalker as a character? Because that's basically all it did. This is a character who, upon discovering that literally the 2nd most evil guy in the universe is his father, then went out of his way and risked his life just on the slim chance that he might be able to save him from the Dark Side. A father who he had legitimately never met or ever actually known. Meanwhile TLJ expects me to believe that same Luke sensed the Dark Side in his nephew, a boy he would have actually helped raise and is training to be a Jedi, that he would have actively tried to murder that kid in his bed? Anybody who defends the portrayal of Luke in TLJ is, of course, entitled to their opinion. But that opinion is unfortunately just ridiculous. Mark Hamill himself is on record multiple times saying that he genuinely doesn't recognize the character, that the person we see there is not the Luke Skywalker he knows.
@@Astraeus.. Luke has always been known to act on impulse. He lashed out in anger at the man you know he was trying to save. That's why Darth Vader was so dissapointed in Luke's lightsaber! "I've seen you constructed a new lightsaber... why does it look like Obi-Wan's!? MINE WAS COOLER! HOW DIDN'T YOU DO SOMETHING LIKE YOUR OLD MAN DID!? ARE YOU ASHAMED OF ME!?"
Cause there was no supplies to built one from zero since Order 66 destroied everything.Even the kyber he used was a Sith one he cleared from the Dark Force. If he had found the stuff to built he'd had done,he knews how to.But there were no itens for him to perform the task,so he used old Ben's one.
Melissa Cavalcante no Vader took Obi Wans saber that saber is freshly built and Vader was not disappointed he was very proud of his son for becoming so strong
Dante Luna because his first one was built professionally by Anakin who had had years of training and experience and then it was locked away for twenty years where as the Luke built was made from parts on tatooine which as we saw in phantom menace was sort of run down and not have the best parts available
Enhanced Battle Toaster no i mean his Green saber, at the beginning of ROTJ it looks new but by the end its looks so old and rusty that it looks like a completely different saber, you can even search for pictures to see what i mean
God, I could listen to him talk about Star Wars props all day. You can tell he loves it just as much as the fans do. Well, probably more, since he's actually lived it.
I doubt they'll use this exact one in ep 8 and 9. For one, its a piece of movie history so I'd rather it not get any more beat up than it it. Also the producers and behind the scenes folks have better tools to use. So as cool as it would be, I'd rather it be cared for for posterity.
Yeah but I reckon they may use that same lightsaber in terms of design, story significance, but a new replica for SW8 painstakingly recreated for the film. Spoiler alert I guess but Kylo Ren is holding this lightsaber in the Force Awakens trailer shot from rey's vision, they used a different shot in the final film but you can still pick it out if you look carefully so I reckon it comes into play for certain. i.imgur.com/kV8x5ZI.jpg
I don't think he meant this exact prop, he meant the ROTJ lightsaber. And he probably will because behind the scenes stuff for TFA showed a made prop that looked indentical to this ROTJ that was probably originally going to go on his belt in the final TFA scene.
HaloModder555 again, as I fucking said. Clearly you didn't get the ending. Or rather you wished it was something different. Either way it doesn't matter. The WHOLE POINT of the movie was? THE JOURNEY. It's a common fanasty trope in movies. The beginning scroll told us,"Luke Skywalker is missing." What happens at the end? They found him. It's meant to make us QUESTION Luke's intentions. WHY? Because even LUKE FUCKING STATED that he DOES express an interest or intention to TURN Luke EVIL. Which would make a bit of sense, Considering he failed Ben Solo, Luke probably had a long reflection to even understand if he had even chosen the correct path. I for one, WANT Luke to be evil. It would give the movies the same themes portrayed already. Good turned Evil. Imagine the greatest Jedi turned into the Greatest Sith. I believe Snoke is nothing more than a distraction to hide the true enemy.
Ave Satanas Luciferian Or! Or... Or just hear me out: What I like and don't like has nothing to do with my understanding of the Force Awakens film. Get out of here, Mickey Mouse.
It's such a pleasure to see how in love Mark is with star wars and his own character. A lot of actors become bitter towards their roles or movies. (Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, etc.) It's refreshing to see someone who's embraced what they've been through and fully immerse themselves in the world that they helped to create.
Yeah. Some actor really deserves the icon role they had become. Are those that aknowledge the significance that character had for many people, and are proud of the part they had in his creation. Leonard Nimoy is another one that comes to my mind.
Mark Hamill is the man ! :) I looked up to him when i was a kid because of Luke Skywalker and The Joker in Batman TAS :) . I can't wait to see more of Luke in Ep 8 :)
actually there were probably more then two, im willing to bet a few resin copies were casted for specific scenes like when he throws his lightsaber away.
Actors don't always get permission to take home their favorite prop, unfortunately... though I've heard of some actors "accidentally misplacing" the prop on the last day though, lol...
Lucasfilm kept all of the props of the films in their vault at Skywalker Ranch. This guy must have gotten one of the copies but I doubt the hero prop. Well they have all the props but Han's original DL-44 which was lost after ANH production...LMAO.
You can see the second those memories come rushing back to him and he's reliving that moment from A New Hope when he first gets the lightsaber. So cool
It's cool to see how strong a connection Mark has to work he did nearly 40 years ago. He had the kind of look in his face of a man seeing his first car restored. This guy's the real deal.
Imagine seeing something you haven't seen in 40 something years Mark must have had a nice moment reunited with his old Saber like finding something precious you used to cherish as a child in the storage

He looks in shape, damn Luke! can't wait for Ep. VIII
I thought the exact same thing. He looks fantastic!
lool,Luke will be a incompetent idiot.Probably won't even know how to spell "force" Rey will boss him around always know everything better than him.

Been Exposed, so I Deleted My Account. Lol
You can hear the nostalgic excitement in Mark's voice. A ripple of joy through the force if you will.
Maybe. Though I could just as easily hear it as polite excitement since he knows that is the expected response. There are a lot of fans here that are trying really hard to project their own nostalgia onto Mark Hamill.
This isn't the first time he sat down with a stranger who showed him an old lightsaber from 30 years ago.
DatBoy SoTalented that time was 20 years ago, Revenge of the Sith takes place 19 years before A New Hope.
Oh. So it is his first time lol.
Well Rey showed him an old lightsaber from about 30 years ago and she was a stranger. But they weren't sitting
KJCollections whether Luke and Rey are strangers remains to be seen... ;)
roger that is true I guess.
Mark Skywalker: I am a Jedi, like my father before me

He didn’t know how it worked. All the electronics were removed by the time it was used for him in ROTJ because it was made to hang on his belt in that movie.
Alec Guinness on the other hand would know everything on how it works because this was his special effects lightsaber.
Luke had a different stunt Saber that worked differently.
I like how Mark doesn't even ask for the guy's permission, he just grabs that shit lol.
Xander I just realized it lol
It’s technically his
Yeh I just thought about tht as well haha, how did he not get to keep it considering it was his lightsaber, I don’t really consider his lightsaber in new hope and empire strikes back his because it was technically anakins lightsaber, so for like I liked the green one better imo
Its his lol

Wait... so did the idea for the ancient proto-sabers in EU Legends come from the fact that they used wires and batteries on the set for the movie?
If so that's pretty cool.
Yup! That is awesome.
Matthew Hilliker yeah right? I now want to make one of those old sabers even more now
Nah Lucas actually discovered ancient texts describing everything in Star Wars and blue prints for the proto saber and regular saber. Star Wars is essentially a documentary

He used it more in this 1 minute than the entire episode 8 movie
The fact you only see it in a flashback, made it hurt even more...
Which was the point of the movie, just in case you weren't paying attention.
The Gray Owl
No it wasn’t.
It was only until he disarmed him that he remembered what he was fighting for.
Rian knows the community idolizes him. Deifies him. So too does everyone around him. Luke couldn't live up to all those expectations, and he damn well knows it!

May The Force Be With You 🖐️
That's why Darth Vader was so dissapointed in Luke's lightsaber!
I never undestand why at first his lightsaber looked new and then it looked old and rusty
He should have been like “wow! thanks for returning it! Bye.”
God, I could listen to him talk about Star Wars props all day. You can tell he loves it just as much as the fans do. Well, probably more, since he's actually lived it.
Mark Hamill is possibly the coolest human on the planet.
I think you mean "in the Galaxy"
In the galaxy, cause you know he's our Wormie. The sweet Farmboy
I hope Luke will use this lightsaber in episode 8 and 9
I doubt they'll use this exact one in ep 8 and 9.
He does! In the comics after ROTJ, he has it!
I hope so too...

Clearly you didn't get the ending.
Or rather you wished it was something different.

The WHOLE POINT of the movie was?
THE JOURNEY.
It's a common fanasty trope in movies.
The beginning scroll told us,"Luke Skywalker is missing."
What happens at the end?
They found him.
It's meant to make us QUESTION Luke's intentions.
WHY?
Because even LUKE FUCKING STATED that he DOES express an interest or intention to TURN Luke EVIL.
Which would make a bit of sense,
Considering he failed Ben Solo, Luke probably had a long reflection to even understand if he had even chosen the correct path.
I for one, WANT Luke to be evil.
It would give the movies the same themes portrayed already.
Good turned Evil.
Imagine the greatest Jedi turned into the Greatest Sith.
I believe Snoke is nothing more than a distraction to hide the true enemy.

mark hamil is truly the greatest. so humble, and truly grateful for all he has been given.
This is really useful for understanding how the lightsaber effect was done. Thanks for sharing it!
I love when he said: "This is yours..."
Huh
I would think that Lucas would've let Mark keep his lightsaber as a memento.
Well, there were two. The one with the blade, and the one without the blade. Which would you rather keep?
Both
actually there were probably more then two, im willing to bet a few resin copies were casted for specific scenes like when he throws his lightsaber away.
So cool
"That's your actual lightsaber from the first movies!"
"Oh my god, that's incredible! Thank you!" -Walks off with it
The interviewer missed the opportunity to say, "You want this, don't you?" while patting it gently.
It's cool to see how strong a connection Mark has to work he did nearly 40 years ago. He had the kind of look in his face of a man seeing his first car restored. This guy's the real deal.

Watching this just made me realise mark hamil is much older than the prequels, much much older.....like all this time i was thinking of the prequels as a anchoring point in thr star wars universe because it was my childhood, then i realise this dude was in the goddam originals and he is still here.
Then Harrison Ford busts in and he’s like “That belongs in a museum!”
Mark should have said: "that lightsaber... it belongs to me..."
Mark Hamill is a purely awesome guy! He knew exactly what his lightsaber did and how it worked. That guy was trying to school him, and Mark interjected and politely schooled him! True Jedi!
Ye but he doesn’t how this Saber specifically functioned. It was stunt effects Saber for Alec Guinness in A New Hope. All it did in Return of the Jedi was hang of his belt in close ups. He used a different Saber that worked differently for his stunt.
I would've given "Luke" back his lightsaber just to be able to tell the story.
