  • This video shows the processes we use to sculpt, mould and cast. Here we are sculpting a flamingo in clay, which we mould and cast in fibreglass. We cast three flamingo sculptures from this mould and painted them pink with chrome beaks and side vents.

All this care, attention, time and expertise devoted to making what? A triplet of oversized pink flamingos! I'm not saying it ISN'T worth it, it's more that I'm trying to put myself in the position of the makers here; how do you do this? Is it fulfilling? What is the mindset? Do you do it for the making or is it just work? I'm genuinely curious, so if the makers of this video see this do get in touch. As a young artist who has to do sidejobs to pay expenses this balance of earning money and doing something fulfilling on its own is very interesting to me

Hi Jakob, thanks for your comment. We made these for a retailer who used them to sit mannequins on to display clothes. It is fulfilling, we're all makers and creatives from art backgrounds, and working with brands and other commercial enterprises, we get to create things, which we love, but we also get paid. If you'd like to work in the props industry, look online at what's out there for you. It's nice to work doing what you love but get a wage for it.
