    Karia, you do a really good job with these reviews. I found it helpful to see the color intensity charts for the various brands. I think I have a better idea as to what to expect of the Pablos' coverage and color strength because you go through all those brands. Thank you very much.

      ColoringKaria Hi! I wanted to let you know that Today I got three single Pablos pencils (the primaries) and I agree with you, the softness of these colors is (feels) in between the Prismacolor Premier and the F.C. Polychromos. Thanks again for your review!!

      +Fluffy Bunny well all pencils are part oil and part wax it's really a matter of degree. But in my contacts with Caran d'ache I was told that these are more wax based but I don't think it's that big of a deal.

    I've been all over the place and just thought I'd come to you for my question. I know your partial to polys. I just can't get the hang of blending them. I think it's more my technique than the pencil. I love the colors though. Like you, I'm not big on solvent. I love how prismas blend. But I go through them like crazy because of the softness. All that being said, how would you compare the blending of pablos to prismas? Are they similar?

    • @ColoringKaria
      @ColoringKaria  7 лет назад

      I dont really understand the question. The pablos and the prismacolor softcore are very different pencils. A lot of people use white to blend, i dont and never have. I just keep layering until things are blended and it works. But i didnt know if that answers your questions.

    • @vernabailey3671
      @vernabailey3671 7 лет назад

    If you want to use a darker black, lay down a layer of any colour, then the black layer, and you will notice the black is significantly deeper. This works because "black" isn't really a colour ; it is the sum of ALL colours !

    • @ColoringKaria
      @ColoringKaria  7 лет назад

      +lorrane as mentioned in the video the black background is from three layers of black, one layer of blue, another layer of black and a layer of purple on top.
      Black in this case is Ivory Black. That says that it comes from a specific pigment, or several to give the look of, bone char, Pbk9.
      You are right in a way that black is all three primary colors but in this case it should be a dark black color on its own. As you can see in the video I compared it blacks from other brands that gave a much darker more true black result, such as the polychromos black.
      I hope that helps.

    Hi Karia, great review. It was interesting seeing all the different swatch comparisons. I used them a long time ago and they were some of my favourites, so I have a bit of an attachment to them heh. I love your colouring page by the way, especially her eyes..they look very mesmerising. Just a little comment on the black. Pablos and Supracolors both have two blacks, one being just "black" and the other being "ivory black". So I think that might be a more richer darker black in contrast to the one in this set. And I'm also pretty sure these are wax based.

    Yes, go figure. LOL. Some of the people who represent Caran D Ache do not even agree which. It states on the website they make only Wax color pencils. But according to The Art Gear, who called Caran D Ache personally to put this matter to rest, and get the correct information. According to Caran D'Ache, the Pablo is indeed an oil based pencil, whereas the Luminance is a wax and oil mix based pencil, which is why so many seem to think the Luminance are 100% wax. Really most reviews say they are not softer than Polychromos. I have those. Holbein color pencils are oil based and they are softer than either. So right now, I still do not know if they are oil or wax based. If they dissolve with a solvent like Holbein Metz, that is made only for oil based pencils, it would reveal the truth. I still do not own any Pablo's. Still not sure if I should. Thanks for the review!

    • @steveanthony1399
      @steveanthony1399 6 лет назад +1

      ColoringKaria I asked them the difference between the luminance. The process in making the leads was different along with the fact that the pablo’s were a 6b lead and the luminance were an 8b and they both used wax. It turns out the person I first contacted in my first comment wasn’t actually part of Caran D’Ache, but a person who reviewed them and said they were oil based. But for sure they’re wax based, i had the lady at Caran D’Ache explain how the pencil was made lol. I’m pretty sure since the lead is supposed to be a 6b, it makes it feel harder like oil based pencils, and that’s how the rumour started. I already have the polychromos and was thinking about getting the Pablo’s as well, i just wanted to know which one you’ve found keeps a sharper point longer?

    • @ColoringKaria
      @ColoringKaria  6 лет назад

    Hey guess what peeps, there’s no such thing as wax OR oil based pencils, every pencil that’s ever been made have been made with versions combinations of BOTH of these ingredients. Besides, I really don’t think that our usage of these two words is even technically correct, unless someone here knows the chemical differences between waxes and oils and what the unique qualities of each are. All these art supply companies are just sitting back like a bunch of fat cats counting their money while the masses squabble over what the pencils they sell are made of and how lightfast they are and the joke is that they were never even made of wax OR oil in the first place but some exotic chemical with a name that only chemical engineers know how to pronounce. If you do know the differences between these two ingredients and all the technical jargon more power to you, but I get the distinct feeling that anybody who is knowledgeable enough to know about such things would also know how pointless it is to argue over what a pencil is based on, and that when a manufacturer sets out to make a pencil they don’t start by deciding what to “base” it on. Don’t even get me started on lightfastness, outside of professionals avoiding ripping off their clientele, lightfastness is the biggest scam since snake oil, maybe even bigger. Rant over.
