    It's always good to break bad habits, but you can also buy foam pencil grips which do work. Thank you for this review. What yummy colors
    I came back to painting and now coloring in my late 70's, I find that it has been such a great blessing. Not only the creation of art, but changing the way I see and respond to so many things. To live is to change and grow.

    Pablos are gorgeous. They need a very light hand and then layers of multiple colours to build up entirely different colours. They are the closest thing to paint mixing in a pencil. And yes, all harder pencils work well on Amazon paper. It's the greasy Prismas that don't like that toothless paper.
    You can layer and layer and layer with Pablo and with just the 18 pencil set you can colour an entire double page spread with such an array of colours that you can't believe it's only 18 pencils. The amount of greens I got going was amazing. There were only 2 greens in the set.

    Thank you. I bought Pablos as an artist, who is learning how to use colored pencils by coloring in coloring books. I have 16 open stock and just bought a 12 pack. These are definitely artist grade pencils. To me as an artist I feel weird using them in a coloring book, but I have to start somewhere. I am sure they work best on colored pencil paper, which I have, which I know some people print their PDFs on. I will watch the unboxing next.

      Hi 🙂 Derwent Lightfast are also oil based. Their Procolor line is wax based, however it performs like an oil based pencil and needs layers to build up color. They seem harder than the Polychromos, in my opinion.

Have you bought and used the specially created Caran d'Ache Blender Bright pencil + The Blender pencil, 1 has a wood case over the translucent Bright Blender, and the other is just a pure blending material without a wood case. You can erase those lines, they are from the black back of the page. If you store them tightly with smaller books, those lines appear. You also want to lay down a thick piece of paper between what you are coloring and the page behind it.

      I think I did color with them when I first bought them but it's been a long time. I actually had even forgotten about them because it's one of the only sets I don't have the room to leave out. I need to film a video coloring with them. I do really like them, but I remember when I was using them almost everyday, they were not as comfortable in my fingers as some other pencils because of the hexagonal shape. I have become much more light handed so I need to pull these out and color with them some more. I will update you. There are so many beautiful colors that come in the set which is really what I love about them most. This video is so old, that I don't even really remember it. I did get the Luminance shortly after this and am in love with those!

    I thought that all oil based pencils would be the same regardless of the brand but each set of pencils work slightly different. Yes. I saw her review from a year or so ago. You can not use these like a Prismacolor. You must apply soft layers without a lot of pressure. If you use them like a Prismacolor (which of course I tried at first since those are my main go-to pencils), you will not enjoy these pencils. Now that I played with them enough and learned how to use them, I do really enjoy them and use them often.

    • @gnostie
      @gnostie 3 года назад +1

      @@PamelasPassionforPencils It would be very helpful to have an instructional video, showing the techniques of Prisma, Polychromos and Pablos side by side. I know that you've already indicated your observations in that older video, but Pablos aren't a very commonly available pencil, so the information on them is scant and mixed with misunderstandings. Even reputable youtubers like Claire took a dim view of Pablos, so it would be good to have a video from you setting the matter straight. You are known as someone who puts careful research into the videos, and that makes you the ideal person to make such a tutorial - if time and other commitments allow, of course. Thank you for considering the request, and hope you're enjoying 2021 so far. :-)

    Honey, you don't need to excuse yourself or give explanations to anyone for buying a box of pencils. Even Luminance the whole set won't cost as much as a good fishing rod. You're just comparing them to the kids' pencils.
    For Polychromos, I used to love them but after a few years I saw my drawings fade and even if I'm not a professional, I'm still not ok with that. I saw an article of someone who actually did the lightfastness test and some of the most used colours are just not lightfast, despite their stars. Perhaps they are in museum conditions on special paper, but that is not what I do.
    Now I am only colouring with Luminance and rarely with Prismacolors. However once you go Luminance, there is no return. You'll be spoiled for any other pencils.

      They have an inconsistent formula especially with the Ultramarine.They are not even up to par with the Farbens in my opinion.I tried them for 10 weeks and I am a layer/light handed colorist who likes oil pencils particularly Polychromos so it is not a learning curve issue for sure.
