Howard Zinn is a gigachad. Can't think of a more inspirational human being

      He's a left-wing Socialist buffoon.
I notice he didn't organize protests against the Southeast Asian Holocaust that took place in the 1970's.

My husband (not a Quaker) took a year off from his undergrad studies at Harvard to organize against the Vietnam war for the Friends Service Committee. Please realize that, as a Harvard student, a deferment would've been granted pretty much automatically. He'd never have had to serve. He refused to flee across the border to Canada, and was being trained by the FSC to go to PRISON to organize against the war there. He also burned his draft card in Boston -- I think at this church or on the courthouse steps. He went through all of the "seven interviews" made famous by Arlo Guthrie -- the final, penultimate one being the one with the Psychiatrist. He has told me in detail about walking in, about Sgt Green, a huge Black man...about the yellow line that you stepped over once you were inducted and now property of theUS Army -- and how he never, ever expected to be given Conscientious Object status.. If they had denied it, he would either have gone off to prison or had to cross the yellow line -- and everyone knew that if you went into the Army and had "CO" on your paperwork, you'd ben put in "shall we say" "harms way" so they'd be sure you were killed immediately. Anyway, he DID get CO status -- to his shock. AND a few years later, he was working as an announcer at -- WGBH!
