Joe Rogan and Kevin Ross on Lawrence Kenshin

  • WOW, got another huge shoutout from Joe Rogan on episode 864, where he features two of my favorite fighters: Kevin Ross and Gaston Bolanos.
Kevin is a true pioneer of North American Muay Thai; in case you don't already know, here's a little introduction. There have been several American fighters that challenged the Thais before Kevin, but no one really took the time to learn beautiful Muay Thai and competed well against the Thais with it.
Ross only started at the late age of 23 with no previous athletics background, and seven years later, he'd be the first American to beat a former Rajadamnern champion (Malaipet), and then he fought a split-decision loss to a two time stadium champion (Sittisak).
After capturing a world title, he'd get the opportunity to fight a prime Saenchai for the WBC Diamond Belt. Saenchai was on a huge run, coming off wins against Sagetdao, Superbon, Petchboonchu, Nong-O, and Liam Harrison. If you don't know who these fighters are, just know that they are the highest caliber of Muay Thai - the cream of the crop - it does not get any better in this era of Muay Thai.
Ross lost the fight via majority decision, but he would be one of the few foreigners to ever give Saenchai a tough and challenging fight, picking up steam as the fight progressed. Had it not been for the flash knockdown, the fight would've been officially judged as a very close one.
Kevin's story and mentality as a martial artist would go on to inspire the next generation of fighters, and one of them was Gaston Bolanos. Gaston marks the new breed of North American Muay Thai fighters: having access to elite caliber coaching since the age of 10 and surrounded by a great team, he'd beast through his amateur and professional career. He holds an amazing attitude like Kevin in that he is ready to fight anyone - the highest caliber available. He's been tearing through the professional ranks, knocking so many people out with his signature spin elbows.
He will now be fighting in Bellator kickboxing in MMA - so don't blink on this prospect and get ready to see some real high level striking. P.s... by all accounts from those that actually know him, he's a great martial artist and human being, so stop with the negativity over a decision!
Anyways, there's essentially 3 new elite prospects that help mark the future of Muay Thai in America: Gaston Bolanos, Chris Mauceri, and Ognjen Topic (who is regarded as the best American fighter currently and will be facing Saenchai in 3 days). Pay close attention to these guys and help with the western striking movement that's going on!
Thank you all so much for the support, it is always so great to receive amazing feedback like this and it would not be possible without you guys! If you would like to understand striking a bit better, I featured one of the three elite prospects in my new book: Chris Mauceri and his awesome gym.

Watching back now I might’ve gotten the meaning wrong. He doesn’t say he didn’t know if you’re a fighter or not. He said people that put together these videos that are fans “even if they don’t train themselves they can see things now etc etc”
Anyways, my component for you still holds 👍

Thank you. I wondered about that. There are things Lawrence Kenshin says that demonstrate clear personal experience with what he's talking about. I imagine that he would be a phenomenal trainer.
The knowledge and insight that he brings must be incredibly useful for figuring out what approach to take for any particular fighter or recommend a role model for them to study.
