When i was younger i always dreamed of living in the city. But now that im living in the city as an adult, i miss my home village. Mentawai and Dayak have some similarities in terms of culture. Your video hit so close to home. I wanna go back to all the simplicity i used to experience as a child.
Hi i have joined your channel , my name is Billy , i must truly admit that i absolutely love your home it fits so unique in with the island , very beautiful. I am from South Africa.
How wholesome it is to have everyone around the table eating and sharing a good laugh. I love everything about this channel, you and your husband calm and simple behavior. None of business but will there be kids?😂 God bless you folks
Your house is completely in harmony with nature and very beautiful. I wish you to live in your home in a healthy, happy, peaceful and peaceful way. Congratulations It's a beautiful thing when people honor you in your home.
We are brothers in south east Asia n share the same traditions. The community united in helping in the preparations for the housewarming is known in the Philippines as Bayanihan n still observed in rural areas. Love your videos. Regards.
Congrats on the new house blessing. Great to watch. I’m half Indonesian, living in Australia. I never knew much about this island other than a surfing destination. Mums family is from just out of Medan. So I really enjoyed finding your channel from watching the other channel who featured your island life. I’ve binged watch a few episodes already and it’s fascinating. I love that you are promoting the traditions of this island for all to see. Well done to you both
Amazing! So happy you found our channel! And yes, one of the reasons for starting to make videos on here is to capture the culture and traditions here and hope to help preserve it that way before it’s too late. We also hope to show the local youth that they’ve got something special here worth preserving 🙏🏼
Hello... To the couple... I'm from Philippines... That's my dream life too... Anyway... I started my own dreams in the province but still unfinished... I'm still trying to do something just like financial for finishing my place completely... Hopefully in God's will... My dreams becomes true... God bless to both of you and also to some couples have a dreams like us... ❤
Some of the tradition there are similar in my village too. especially Sago palm house. cooking in the bamboo, Feast and rostering meat and the house warming party etc... Love to visit someday Watching from Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬🙏❤️
I came across your channel 3 days ago and have been binge watching all the videos. Just a few questions. Where did you meet your husband? Where are you from originally? why did you decide to move to the island? watched the old videos but could not get answers to any. Thank you.
Oohh thank you for watching and going through all our videos! We met here in the Mentawai Islands :) Planning on filming a q&a soonish too so you can find more answers there 😉
@@OurIslandLife I am a pediatric ICU nurse, always wanted to do volunteer work in remote places and I am asked a lot to do it. Thanks for making the video. This give me perspective. So funny, hubby awkward moment in the end of the video. Msh malu malu abangnya 😁 good luck guys.
Great to see traditions are being kept in what can be a crazy world full of electronics which have taken away what use to bring families and friends together
The shaman blessing reminds of a village in Mexico where a church has been painted beautiful colours a n d inside shaman practices are held. It was unlike any church or ceremony I have seen. I got a shaman blessing and part of that was having boiled eggs rubbed over me. I’m very curious to watch shaman practices in Indonesia.
My family heritage is part NZ Moari so I truly loved the meaning of the house blessing ceremony and the feast afterwards. Blessings to you both, your community and beautiful home. Thankyou so much for sharing your journey of building an Island home and life.I 🥰
An is so funny! Mosquito o'clock 😏 I'll be using that expression alot. Nice to see the traditional ceremony so thanks to everyone for sharing and participating. Silly question, but what are you using to light the fire on the stove? Was it just a branch or stick and is it reused until too short? Good luck with your channel.
OMG🌺 thank you for sharing this video what is the name of the flower you guys collecting that was my grandma‘s favorite flower when I was a child. Thank you🙏🏽
Thank you! We only know the local Mentawai name and since Mentawai is only an orally transmitted language we can’t google translation or look it up in a dictionary cos there isn’t one 😆
What was that piece of charred meat that your husband was holding with a stick? Did I bra it correctly? Was it mice? I’m a new subscriber from Benicia, California but originally from Brunei. I understood some of the words your husband was saying.

Thank you! We usually use something called “munyut” here to light fires/stove. It’s a part of the coconut tree whee the fruits start growing out.
