I saw this movie on a plane when I was flying overseas. Holy mother of God that was a bad idea. I had to explain my sobbing to the guy sitting next to me and two flight attendants. Even just listening to this song now makes me tear up.

I think we must both have a couple beautiful kind hearts 2 truly appreciate a magical miraculously gorgeous song like this…personally, I would feel very sorry for anyone who could hear this song & have any less than the powerfully emotional reaction that clearly we BOTH did. Best wishes to u, & keep on letting that beautiful heart of yours fully enjoy all the beautiful parts of life…like this utterly amazing song that I appreciate like a blessing/gift from above that was sent to make us both happy!!❤😊
Im a pretty harcore dude i to metal music and i always respected LGG as a composer. Singer and performer cu she uses chords used in metal to make it hit hard but thos movie allowed us to see her talent. She really is a freaking legend in allowing us to see her devotion to music and also acting. Yeah, i think we all got a bit emo on this movie....i need to go love somebody! Lol

Remember coming out of the Cinema after this to be greeted by Cinema staff asking did you enjoy the movie and my friend said look at us, we're both a fckn mess !! lol

I'm just saying this kind of emotional charged performance and with specific regards to the fact that this was attached to a film soundtrack has not been topped since Whitney Houston and the bodyguard era... and Gaga is sincerely the one bridging this gap. I strongly think the recurring comments that keep referencing Whintey is proof that this is not happenstance but a true reflection of the phenomenal artistry at play here.
I still remember the day i saw this movie on cinema, and at the enda with that song, literally i got speechless even after having left the cinema. unforgettable.

I’m a 42 year old single dad of amazing daughters and I openly will say this movie is devastating , TRULY, if you haven’t seen it I advise anyone to see it, warning tho, if addiction or suicide is something that is difficult , don’t see the movie as much as I love it, man I think I cried thru half of it.

I saw this at a movie theater and my throat was burning because of how hard was I trying to bawl so I can totally relate to the feelings of having your feelings overpowered by this song

😢 This song always hits hard. I’ve struggled with addiction my entire adult life (I’m 32 and clean 3 years) and I’ve lost many friends to addiction. It’s an epidemic that gets no sympathy because it’s so easy to put the fault on the people suffering from it. We don’t want to be addicts, many of us, like me, go through the struggle of getting clean multiple times and just fall back in. It’s not weakness. It really is a disease. And it is depicted so well in this movie/song. I need to stop because I don’t feel like crying tonight.
I understand you 100%,..as a single dad now my girls are my reason but I remember seeing this in theaters and had no idea it dealt severely with addiction , mental health, trauma and suicide so I very quickly ended up in a total bawlin mess. We hold a lot of guilt inside and my mom passed away do brain cancer , always kicking myself I didn’t do This sooner to show her , you jsut end up missing SO much , relationships, people , and so many jsut think an addict thst relapses is jsut a drug addict , they have NO idea how much we often hate our selves, how hard we try and how many times, how difficult withdrawals can be and the side effects of getting clean not being able to sleep and your entire body systems going bonkers. I’d never smoked or drank in my life and hit black ice at 29 years old slid off the highway head in into an overpass. I’ve had severe chronic pain every minute of every day since and I’m 43 now. The ER loaded me up in lain meds to help the pain and literally became physically addicted and dependent on them to not hurt and not experince withdrawal. Often it’s scenarios that could happen to anyone and I wish people would understand how fuckin miserable and hard it is.

Be sure to check out the movie version too, I think that’s even more powerful! 💔 It cuts off right at the climax unexpectedly - it hits you by surprise and leaves you in the dark to deal with the overflow emotions it built up up to that point, whew. 😭 In comparison, the music video version has this complete arc, so you can tell when the song is coming to an end and lets you process things gradually.

Because it’s real. Her best friend Sonja died that day of cancer. She tried to make it to the hospital to say goodbye to her and missed her. She drove back to set and filmed this scene in one take and said she sang it to Sonja.

I can tell u that the movie is unbelievable and the performance was great , this song got me cause i had a major drinking and drug problem and if it wasn’t for Devine intervention I may have chosen the same route as the character in the movie ,So it hits home to think about those I would have left behind wondering what would have been. You must watch the movie to experience the sound you won’t have a dry eye at the end or during the movie very deep and sad.

This song gets to me as well. We watched the movie with my son right after it came out. My husband took his life from alcoholism. We met at AA 12-31- 2007. We went out and were together ever since. I went to his grave on 12-31-20. I watched the movie, I had forgotten how it ended. I was looking thru text messages and my husband had sent Shallow to me. He had been on a relapse for a few years. Had some sober time in between. I participated with him drinking at times. There are several songs that hit me from that movie. I wish I could tell Lady Gaga my story. When I go to bed at nite I listen to those songs. And I will never love again. He was the love of my life. Tomorrow will be six months that he took his life.
I wasn’t a Gaga fan really. I have listened to some of her music. Just never got into her. BUT….. I’m a fan now! This song… her emotions in this song! She was fantastic in this movie. And the music from this movie is insane! This song hits me hard. I honestly think this is better than shallow. I love that one too. But this song it just beautiful and performed beautifully ❤️
In the movie version, she is singing live. (All of the songs are live) She had just lost her friend to cancer (I think the day before?) and was singing this to her.
