Looking back using this chart, I hadn’t realized there were so many other years with similar lack of ice as this year. Also found it interesting how went from almost zero ice to full ice next year. Great video Jon. Appreciate the effort you put in to provide us with these amazing “breaks” from our everyday stuff.

I also realised your wife's name is Erin, so cheers for the content from the your ancestral home Ireland. Great job, keep enjoying it and sharing it with us, maith thú Jon.

Thank you for posting this!! I live in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan only about 15 miles from Lake Michigan. Looking back at the fluctuation in this historical data I can't help but wonder if we're in for some major ice formation on the Great Lakes in the coming years.
Lichens never cease to amaze me. They’re such beautiful organisms but we seldom notice them unless we stop and do it consciously. They survive year-round in places like the exposed rock of that campsite just as they have for eons, and will continue thrive there long after we’re gone. I’m so appreciative that you take the time to pause and film them on your journeys.
The Superior coastline is gorgeous. It's been a strange winter for sure but you really capitalised on the conditions -- cheers for sharing it, Jon. Keep paddlin'
We all wanted to get out canoeing in February, but you did, and look what awesome footage you got. Why go south in the winter, when you can do this in your own backyard. Glad to see you had all the safety gear and emergency plan, you never know. Great job.
Jon and Erin Firstly I want to thank you for the outstanding entertainment you offer us all. I look forward to each and every video you post. I don't comment often on videos but truly felt compelled. I am a professional chef and my sons and best friend and I have a fishing and cooking channel called " From The Tide To Your Table" I end each episode with "practice catch and release or selective harvest". That said, I so appreciate your example of stewardship and respect for our natural resources! Albeit I wish you would eat more fish you are a true example of selective harvest. I know how much respect you give the fish you harvest. That said, rather than dispatching them with a stick I offer a Japanese technique call Ikejime, the most humane and painless way to dispatch a fish yet yielding the highest quality. There are many videos on youtube to learn. I know you will definitely take interest not only in the humanity of the dispatch but the quality it offers in dining quality. I'd be flattered if you would watch our channel albeit certainly not the cinema quality of yours we are working on it :) Keep it going, you bring me joy Chef Mike
Thank you El Nino . We have been thoroughly enjoying this natural phenomenon here in Southern Ontario. Although, winter camping really sucks without the snow ❄
The best videography on RUclips hands down... You have an amazing eye... Congrats on your marriage to an amazing woman in her own right... We watched your wedding and the before and after a couple of times well worth it... You are living an amazing life GOD BLESS from the bottom of our hearts...
The Banks Fry-Bake pans are hard anodized aluminum. I’ve been using them since the 1970’s. Pam Banks was an instructor at NOLS and those pans were born of necessity. The design of the lids for those pans makes them “dutch ovens” and you can bake amazing things in them. Hard anodized is my go to 85% of the time
The best nature videography on RUclips. Great shots beautifully and artistically framed. Obviously you love the life you have built in one of the world's great freshwater ecosystems. Thanks for sharing them with us. Hoping you enjoy many more journeys (and share them with us)
Your videos are incredibly therapeutic to me and what I have for demons in my life thank you so so much I love sitting back on the couch and just getting lost in the videos
GLORIOUS Jon! Crazy climate but happy you took advantage and right in your own back yard. Darn jealous 😉 I am guessing that was the nap of a lifetime given your surroundings with the sound of the lapping water, ahhhhh heaven 💜 Thanks a million! B
Have to agree...lived in ontario 50 years...never seen a winter like this. Looking forward to early spring camping this year. It's the one upside to a warming climate. Keep up the great videos...loved seeing Superior in winter!
I hate to say it, but John; you’ve done me wrong. Some time ago you mentioned your love of dried pineapple. And with your co-sign, I gave them a whirl which has since spiraled me into a state of full blown dependence. If I’m in the grocery store and they’re sold out, I am in an all-out hunt from store to store until I find them. I have started dehydrating my own, which has only lead to a very small surplus of them as my consumption has increased at a staggering rate. I am obsessively checking pineapple market conditions and considering possible outside factors that could lead to pineapple supply chain shortages. I have done everything short of growing my own (which might be my next option). So for this addiction I thank you, but also despise you for introducing these beloved snacks to me, as they’ve become more of a staple in my diet. Kind regards and salutations, John
Sipping Tim Horton watching this. Thankyou Canada! You adventurers provide such incredible content, thankyou and the others, I watch all your shows, start to finish.

We live on a lake in upstate New York that used to freeze over completely. By 2018, the maximum ice coverage had dwindled to around 10% and we had toxic algae blooms in the summer for the first time ever. Last winter, a La Nina year (which means colder winters in the Northeast) there was 0% maximum ice coverage for the first time ever. This year of course there's 0% ice again.
