It’s very interesting (and not surprising) to read that. That is definitely the way she comes across in this video. I’m always doubly impressed when I find out that a performer I’ve admired so much hasn’t let all the success go to their head! True greatness in my humble opinion! ❤️❤️
I could watch 3000 hours of this. This was wonderful and Bebe is so compelling, such a great story teller and so gracious and loving in her words about those she’s worked with. Total pro in every way. I saw her in Yankees, Chicago (a few times) and Fosse and she worked her ass off every single time. She’s a true triple threat.
Thank you for this. I don't normally leave comments on RUclips, but I'm a performer too and I've had an awful day today. This video magically popped up, and I got to listen to Bebe and forget for 40 minutes. Thanks Playbill.
I sure do LOVE Bebe Neuwirth, and now I love her even more, especially after she acknowledged lives lost to AIDS. I'm sure she has lots more stories to tell!
I wrote to Bebe once when she was in Chicago and asked "what's the name of those slinky arms step?" She wrote back with an autographed headshot that said "Best wishes and snake arms"
I saw her with Ann Reinking in the revival of Chicago. My partner looked at me at one point during the performance and asked me why there were tears running down my face. I replied that it didn't get better than this. It truly didn't. Bebe and Ann were magnificent.
Bebe!!!! God I love this woman, she's supremely talented in everything she does, a bonafide triple threat. Thank you Bebe for entertaining us for over 40 years, you're simply the best. ❤️
OMG OMG i have loved bebe since i was 10yo i saw her in 1996 in chicago and have loved her ever since. as a theater jazz lover a lot of her resume would be a dream for me❤ What an icon. ty for sharing some background on auditioning and so many humble stories!
She is wonderful in Julia (2022 TV series). She's so modest about comedy, yet her comedy skills are outstanding. Kind of the truffle you know will make everything taste like a royal meal. -Frank
Seeing Bebe in CHICAGO was one of A-1 thrills of my life! Just a video of the beginning when she rises onto the stage, backlit, as ALL THAT JAZZ is beginning, gives me those same chills. I’m in my seat at the Schubert thinking,”And this is the first moment!! I’m watching her do Fosse for two and a half hours!!”
My mom would put on Chicago with her and Ann Reinking when driving me and my sister to pre-school and elementary school. Such great memories and I’m so glad Bebe is coming back to this bway season!
Bebe thank you for your brilliant contributions. my father was the theater & cabaret critic for Variety, as a young boy in the 70s, I was fortunate enough to see you in many productions. aI remain a fan. After my parents divorced, grew up in Princeton in the 1980s and spent hours at McCarter theater, many of my school friends did the annual performance o& the nutcracker there, sort of a tradition if you love theater and grow up in Princeton.
She brings Broadway to life so much so you start to believe you were in the cast next to her. You then come out of your trance and kvell in the magic of her true story and the genuine and exciting way she tells it.
I watched and listened to every second of this with one huge error already implanted in my mind: I thought this was a post from a year ago or even longer. If it hadn't ended with Cabaret I could move on to my daily chores. Now I have to find out when Cabaret opens.
I could watch this video on a loop, Playbill. I adore Bebe, I could listen to her tell stories all day every day, and this memory lane recap of her life in the theatre was just spectacular. I need to see her in Cabaret!
Dammit Bebe, you're still gorgeous! :) We're the same age and I never cease to be amazed by your presence, your humor and your gracefulness. It's something that I aspire to, but don't quite reach. Never the less, I thoroughly enjoy watching every one of your performances. May I just say Brava! (And keep going for the next 30 years)
I was 10 when I saw the Movie Jumanji. At that time I knew nothing about theater or musicals. I instantly fell in love with her from that movie! Then a few years later I discovered Chicago and the music of Chicago. My love for her just grew exponentially! She is such a treasure! I could listen to her talk about the theater and the roles she played for days! Thank you Playbill for this!
I could listen to her all day. As an alto who’s also a dancer, this woman has inspired me a lot. It fills my heart when I see people that have done theater for a long time sharing their stories. I am a sophomore in high school, and I have been doing theater for a long time. I’m auditioning for a local production of Chicago teen edition this summer and I’m aiming for Velma or Mama Morton, which are ironically both roles that she has played. I love her so much 😭
She is the only woman to date to have played all THREE leads (Velma, Mama, AND Roxie) in Chicago on the great white way!! This fellow alto agrees she's awesome!! Break a leg on your audition BTW!!
This is such a great idea for a RUclips episode. I could listen to BeBe forever. I hope you can provide similar content with other people from the world of Theater.
Loved this video. I want her to do it again; but this time leave out the wonderful compliments and gratitude completely, and just tell us specific stories. She’s a genius. She’s done everything. I want stories and backstage and things she heard from the (other) legends she worked with. I loved this video and I’d love more! Thank you so much for making this.
Aww, this was so great! I love Bebe, she’s so amazing. I got to see her as Velma and Marilu Henner as Roxie in Chicago on Broadway and they were perfection.
I've always loved Bebe Neuwirth (and seeing her do Roxie in Cabaret just hypnotized me, her presence is so great)...but this interview is fabulous. I'm so grateful she did it!
I only knew her as Lilith on Cheers and loved her there. She became one of my favorite characters. Not knowing anything about her career on Broadway, I got a sense that she was a great dancer and singer. I need to delve deeper. 😊
Yes, you definitely need to dig deeper. While Bebe was indeed brilliant as Dr. Lilith Sternin, her true home is the stage and she's a *supremely talented* dancer and singer.
Bebe!! Had no idea you started with A Chorus Line! And CASSIE no less!! How wild, that most of us know you for a role that would most likely NEVER do a LAYOUT!! You're the top! xoxo
Don't forget Kiss of the Spiderwoman- she was great taking over a very difficult role when the previous star's face was the show's logo! Amazing performer!
I saw her as Velma Kelly in Chicago on Broadway and she was unforgettable. I also saw Dancin' but can't remember if she was in the company I saw. Bebe, the perfect Bob Fosse muse outside of wife Gwen and girlfriend Ann. Brava❣️
This is a great watch. But I've always wondered why she never played SALLY BOWLES (Cabarét)...a part for which I believe she would have been absolutely perfect. ❤❤❤
november 1996. I was at the balcony in the Richard Rodgers Theatre. Chicago just moving from City Center. The entire cast blow my mind. Since then, Chicago is absolutely my favorite! And what can I say about bebe...She is amazing!!
There appears to be a small glitch in the first Chicago review that overlaps with the Fosse review. Regardless, this video is, well, everything. Thank you, Playbill! I hope at some point you post the 5 hour Directors Cut. Or perhaps a sequel after Cabaret opens in April, featuring both Miss Neuwirth and Mr Skybell.
Fantastic! What about "An Evening with Bebe Neuwirth"? Of course it would never make it down under, but I'd happily sit in a plane for twenty three hours to hear those stories at length.
I had always thought of her as cold (no, I'm not thinking of her Lilith character) going back to the days of Damn Yankees. This video totally surprised me. I have also had three personal encounters with her and she was always reserved and never smiled or joked. A true professional, but not happy.
What an extraordinary conversation. In addition to seeing her in many Broadway productions, I saw her in the Bedwetter. Looking forward to Cabaret. I can only imagine how poignant the scenes will be with her and Steven Skybell.
I realize that a piece like this is heavily edited for time and clarity, but I find it interesting that when Bebe discusses “The Addams Family” she doesn’t mention her costar Nathan Lane at all.
I could listen to Bebe chronicle her life in the theatre forever. Bless you, Playbill.
Did her makeup in the '90s. Real, down to earth, authentic, and an absolute pleasure.
It’s very interesting (and not surprising) to read that. That is definitely the way she comes across in this video. I’m always doubly impressed when I find out that a performer I’ve admired so much hasn’t let all the success go to their head! True greatness in my humble opinion! ❤️❤️

I saw the thumbnail and length and thought "wow, that’s long.."
Watched it and now I'm like "wow, that was too short"
could have watched much longer.
She's unforgettable in every part I've seen her in, on screen or stage but you can tell she comes alive on stage like she was born to be up there.
Thank you for this. I don't normally leave comments on RUclips, but I'm a performer too and I've had an awful day today. This video magically popped up, and I got to listen to Bebe and forget for 40 minutes. Thanks Playbill.
Hope you are having a better day today.
Hang in there Carly things will get better. 😊
@@JayFreeburn Things are much better! A bad day is just a bad day, but better with Bebe in it!
@@CarlyJWilding glad to hear it🙂
Best to u.
Bebe is an amazing star performer. She's also a kind, compassionate human being. Thank you, Ms Neuwirth. ❤
I sure do LOVE Bebe Neuwirth, and now I love her even more, especially after she acknowledged lives lost to AIDS. I'm sure she has lots more stories to tell!
Bebe is my all time favorite Broadway performer! She is such a triple threat and seems like an absolute class act. Thank you for this!
She is a national treasure.
Can you please do the 3 hour version of this?? Bebe is such a gem!
Bebe is such an icon! She needs to write an autobiography. #legend
Ms BeBe is definitely the best Fosse dancer in this generation ❤ I didn’t even know she replaced her hip then back to the stage of Chicago doing Roxie
Most definitely
Nobody did snake arms like her
Right before her, Ann Reinking was the best
I wrote to Bebe once when she was in Chicago and asked "what's the name of those slinky arms step?" She wrote back with an autographed headshot that said "Best wishes and snake arms"
I have loved her since I first saw her in Cheers. And I still love her. The voice. Her dancing. Her humor. Wow!
Bebe Neuwirth is 100% goddess. 💗🙌 It's awesome to hear someone I am so in awe of speak with such awe about other people! 😱
There is absolutely no possible way this woman could ramble! I could hang on every word she says. ❤
I saw her with Ann Reinking in the revival of Chicago. My partner looked at me at one point during the performance and asked me why there were tears running down my face. I replied that it didn't get better than this. It truly didn't. Bebe and Ann were magnificent.
This is great, that she started with a Chorus Line is such a magnificent beginning.
Bebe!!!! God I love this woman, she's supremely talented in everything she does, a bonafide triple threat. Thank you Bebe for entertaining us for over 40 years, you're simply the best. ❤️
One of my favorite Broadway ladies and legends of all time ❤
i think i RAN to see fosse when bebe and ann were BOTH in it! it was like the third time i’ve seen it
Me too!

Agree. Sad that Julia has been cancelled.

She is an incredible storyteller. No wonder she's had such a long career. I look forward to many more of these My Life In Theatre videos.
My first Broadway show was Chicago with Bebe! I was OBSESSED. She's a legend.

My goodness, what a warm and wonderful artist she is! Be like Bebe!
This is grand dame ASMR and I'm so here for this.
I always love these career retrospectives on other channels, so excited to see this for Broadway stars!

Brava, brava, Bebe! I so enjoyed your traversal of your extraordinary career on stage. Thank you! (Kirin from PHS)
I see BeBe, I click! ❤❤❤❤❤
What a talented lady!❤️
Legend 💫
She is simply amazing I was not fully aware of her Broadway résumé

This was delightful.
could you imagine being directed by bob fosse and learning the choreo from Gwen????!? bebe is a treasure of fosse teaching. and it always showed!
And here I thought I couldn't adore BeBe any more than I already do....But, here we are!

What a gracious, wonderful lady. The greatest artists are often also imbued with the greatest humility.
Many of the worst artists also have humility.
