As a Manchester United fan (Don't worry I'm not one of those that makes fun of the Hillsborough tragedy, it's really sad what happened) I actually didn't know about the port trade between the two cities, interesting stuff! Keep it up!
Yes, I agree. I think it's extremely bad taste to bring up Hillsborough or Munich. But yes, that's how the historical rivalry between the two cities started.
Defo....and any scouser who makes fun about Munich is an idiot....the Liverpool/Manchester United rivalry will never die
There are fans and than there fanatics and to be perfectly honest, People who sing about munich and Hillsborough should be bloody arrested and fined. People will talk about freedom of speech but freedom of speech should not be abused and verbal harassment is illegal.PS also a fan of United and hate City, Liverpool and Arsenal but would never stoop to a Level of making fun of deaths of other People.
@@sanzharkurmanguzhin1328 I think that kind of people who laugh at people's death are jerks because their fanaticism is very to the extreme, I don't like neither Manchester United nor Liverpool and with this I will never like them, they must measure their words, they didn't have humility, they showed that they're real jerks, I don't know how they succeeded each other while a lot of families were mourning for their dead relatives, and they made fun of them, this is my own opinion if you like Manchester or Liverpool I respect that and it is good and I know everybody is not like that, but I've got to say they were killing football with that, they could control themselves right now and not insult each other but that they did in the past is unacceptable. Greetings 👋👋👋
I’m a MASSIVE Liverpool fan and I HATE united but I would never joke about ppl dying

I'm getting some CGP Grey vibes here, great video!
Ah, you noticed!
Hard to miss. Music and stick figures. Greatness can always borrow from other greatness
Their rivalry remains me of Shakespeare's play: Romeo and Juliet; however, there is no Romeo and Juliet... just the Capulets and the Montague
Kind of, yes.
I think its a shame some supporters from both liverpool and united treat the others disasters like this i do support liverpool and (like any normal person) feels sorry for everyone who died during the Munich disaster some people just take it too far
I agree. You have to wonder whether they actually like the football or do they just want an excuse to be aggressive? Interesting theory.
AWESOME VIDEO! Do Schalke vs Borussia Dortmund too please :)
Might do if I get enough demand.
Great video, good to see you back! As an Ipswich fan I appreciate big derbies!
Thanks man - I've heard of the Ipswich / Norwich derby.
In a sense I find it funny just how our rivalry truly started over a canal, growing up here in Manchester having an immense dislike for Liverpool was something that was instilled into a lot of us. I remember growing up it was more of a unspoken rule, my mother hated scousers, my grandparents hated scousers, my friends at school hated scousers literally everybody I knew including myself had a strong dislike for Liverpool and that's how it always was.
Now that I'm older and I can look back at everything, I would definitely say it's a beneficial "hatred". Scousers who I've come in contact with over the years seem to share the same sentiment that they wouldn't have it any other way either, I can't really comprehend a world where a division isn't present because of how prominent it was and is in the culture of the two cities.

To the best of my knowledge Liverpool fans and Everton fans generally get along surprisingly well during the 363 days of the year that aren’t derby day. The term “friendly rivalry” is thrown about often
That's correct. They term it the friendly derby, as they generally have no real reason to hate each other, nor fans are not segregated by religion, city boundaries or anything. I think it's quite unique!
Not necessarily true, at one stage there was bigotry & sectarianism on Merseyside. Liverpool were founded by the Orange Order & had a policy similar to Glasgow Rangers in the sense that they refused to sign Roman Catholic players (that was until the ban eventually got lifted & Ronnie Whelan joined them in the 80s). Everton, on the other hand, catered for all. Merseyside had a lot of Irish migration but because Liverpool supporters pubs had an Orange Order presence, the Irish migrants found themselves turning to Everton. I believe Everton were the first English club to set up an official Irish supporters club.
I actually have a friend in the states who’s a fan of Everton, but only because Landon Donovan was there
Everton have grown to hate Liverpool over the last 20 yrs big time
Dude, you got some awesome videos with interesting content. Keep it up man. I'm staying

Good to see you back! Love the video.
Thanks bro, much appreciated!
This was a great video. More football rivalry videos, please!!
Cool thanks. You got it.
Another suggestion here. You could do Man Utd vs Leeds Utd. I think that would be an interesting one given its connection to the Wars of the Roses in medieval times.
Great video im a american that that watchs the epl and i never knew how this rivalry started intill now but you should do a indoor soccer rules video
Believe it or not, not many people do. Certainly people don't realise what the ship emblem means or that Liverpool started the animosity more often than not. And yeah, I can make that video if I get enough demand.
Amazing video, hope to see more like it. Can you one on what you think is the best American sports rivalry?
Thanks Wade. It's hard to quantify the biggest American ports rivalry as far as bitter hatred. It all depends on which sport? I can think of a few.

As much as I hope association football becomes a top sport in my country, I hope it *never* reaches a point where people genuinely *hate* each other because of the *soccer* team they support. People hate each other for too many petty enough reasons as it is.
I think Americans are more civil when it comes to their sports teams. Even the most bitter rivals, their fans respect one another. There is no such respect between Manchester United and Liverpool.
@@NinhLyUK Wow! I can't believe that rivalry in soccer is nastiest, most bitter, and most awful in the world of sport. Between fans from each of two teams can be deeply hate each other even some of them actually friends outside the soccer
This was quite an interesting video.
How do the international (non local) players keep up with the hatred or rivalries? Do they simply follow the fans' wishes or somehow they just grow to hate the other team too?
Sadly, they end up copying others ... blindly hating other teams for no apparent reason.
@@NinhLyUKdisagree to some extent
@@NinhLyUKi hate lfc because of their success and their fans in my school who rub it in my face and social media plays a role in it always

Hey your growing in subscribers great job 👍🏽
Hi Edgar. Nowhere near as much as I'd like, but it's increasing for sure!
Ninh Ly in time my friend
Good video, even though I don't support either team (Arsenal) it's personally my favourite rivalry/derby in the UK even eclipsing the Old Firm. Even though there's the City rivalry I don't think it really started to become a rivalry until the 60s when they were challenging each other for trophies and it was originally quite friendly before considering both Sir Matt Busby and Bill Shankly were big pals as were Sir Bobby Charlton and Ian Callaghan.
I don't know exactly when the rivalry started to turn bad natured and nasty. Some say it was around the late 60s or 70s which was around the time the Munich taunting started although Liverpool did allow Manchester United to play at Anfield at the start of the 1971/72 season (no way would it happen now). However Manchester United were the media favourites during that period and still are now as they got a lot of media coverage and global acclaim with the European Cup win in 1968. Liverpool's achievements never got the same coverage whilst Manchester United fans were very jealous of Liverpool during their domination of English football during the 70s and 80s. Also when exactly did each club recognised each other as their biggest rival overtaking the City and Everton rivalries?
Personally I love the rivalry as it's the greatest in English football but I hate the sick chanting about Munich, Hillsborough and Heysel (You forgot to include the Heysel taunting which Manchester United fans sing) and violence that comes with it.
United fans will always consider Liverpool to be the enemy, both from a cultural and football standpoint. There has always been a rivalry, but it's immediately after the Munich Air Disaster when things turned ugly. There was no need to taunt the dead players of a football team, and no other club did this except Liverpool.
And yes, even though United wasn't nearly as successful as Liverpool in the 70's and 80's the fact that they still remained popular annoyed Liverpool. The Heysel disaster was found to be Liverpool's fault, no question and the fact that they've been in not one, but two world stadium disasters is no co-incidence.
In short, even though they won't admit it - but Liverpool fans usually start the animosity for whatever reason. United fans aren't perfect, as they're extremely quick to retaliate by sinking to such low depths.
There's absolutely no question that Liverpool started it first.
Ninh Ly I meant from a football point of view with the rivalry, City were seen to be United's traditional rivals but when exactly did Liverpool take over as the main rivalry as I've always found it complicated and vice versa with Liverpool's traditional rivals being Everton but Manchester United taking over as the main rivalry? Everton until the early 70s were actually a bigger and more successful club than Liverpool having won more silverware and historically had bigger crowds, and had a bigger stadium than Liverpool (Goodison Park used to be a huge stadium and was larger than Anfield). As I mentioned the rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool was originally very friendly even after Munich as Liverpool wanted to offer Manchester United players after what happened and a competitive rivalry started to develop in the 60s although it was still good natured but it started to change soon after woods as Liverpool were the first club to start the offensive chants about Munich and other clubs jumped on the bandwagon (Manchester City, Leeds, Chelsea and several other clubs). Leeds also have a similar rivalry with the War of the Roses (Lancashire vs Yorkshire) similar to the Liverpool vs Manchester rivalry and that same rivalry that Leeds have with Manchester United started to develop around the same time as Manchester United vs Liverpool although it isn't quite as big.
Yeah the rivalry was friendly from a football pov. Imo I think it started to turn nasty when United got relegated and were promoted back after a year
Welcome back!

Hey I watch your snooker video it was really good and I really like your voice 💓💓💓
Cool, thanks - glad my snooker video helped you out!
Ninh Ly it helped me out massively as well!
Interesting video. I'm a Liverpool fan, and I've never sung about Munich. Munich and Hillsborough are topics that only idiot fans throw at each other (you also forgot Heysel, that's where the murderers chant stems from)
One thing I'd say is that I'm not sure the clubs hate each other. Matt Busby played for Liverpool, and was very good friends with Bob Paisley. Liverpool also offered MUFC players after the Munich disaster. Likewise Fergie was one of the first people to publicly congratulate Klopp on the recent league win.
Find it strange that you'd do a video about the rivalry but leave these details out
The players were hugging in the tunnel last year at old trafford
Oh my god more of these types of videos please

Manchesrwe docks were on Salfords Barbary Coast and the area was full of pubs ,dance halls and clubs, Liverpool had a ban in the city on live music,so coachloads would descend onto Cross Lane for the weekends, didn't go down to well with locals

Whilst they hate each other, it's nowhere near the hatred that these two display for each other.
I would like that
According to AlternateHistoryHub, the states of Michigan and Ohio also had a bitter rivalry before their American football teams got into one. When Ohio wanted to define its boundaries, they agreed with Michigan that it should be tangent to the southernmost point of Lake Michigan. Considering the lack of technology at the time, different cartographers disagreed on where the border would stand, leaving the possession of some Lake Erie coast disputed. A few shots were fired and county sheriffs apparently spied on each other. Then-president Andrew Jackson was displeased and wouldn't allow Michigan to become a state if the fighting continued, so Michigan gave up its claim to the Lake Erie coast in exchange for a recognized claim to what we now know as the Upper Peninsula.
Interesting facts, that explains the hatred between the two! Thanks man.
And hoo boy, did that backfire _hard_ on Ohio.

Glad to have you back! Being sky blue since a boy, this is actually a fair account of the Hatred. Mum would bring me to games at Maine Road when spending Christmas with her family (who lived nearby), and I actually met Colin Bell and Neil Young at an event one summer.
For me, irritation with ManU is as natural as eating/breathing because Mum's from the actual City of Manchester, not Salford or Eccles or Stretford (lovely places, all, but NOT Manchester). The Evening News bit you mentioned included Greater Manchester, encompassing those suburbs and skewing the results badly.
Thanks bro. Yes it's a fair representation. I grew up about a 5 minute walk away from Maine Road, so in theory I should be a blue. But red was always my colour. The hatred was generally one sided up until recently. Liverpool on the other hand were always on top of the rivalry list for us.
As for the stats - skew or not, I still think that most people of Manchester side with the Devils than the blues.
stronzo5785 I'm the red side but for you I'm glad you got to meet the great Colin Bell and Neil Young. Happy days
The Munich and Hillsborough taunts are truly unforgivable and have nothing to do with sports. The Liverpool/United fans that have perpetrated these taunts should be ashamed, rebelling in the deaths of their own countrymen, but of course they aren’t.
I completely agree.
I am only familiar with North American sports, but if I make a comparison, I kind of see this as the Flyers-Penguins rivalry on steroids. Compared to Man U-Liverpool, this is peanuts, but the analogy is about the same.
Both the Flyers and Penguins were born as the first wave of expansion teams in 1967, and the geography is already fertile ground for a rivalry (despite living in the same state, eastern and western Pennsylvania is very different). The Flyers were off to a (pun intended) flying start, winning back to back Stanley Cup in 74 and 75 as part of the Broad Street Bullies era, whereas the Penguins were the laughing stock of the League. All that changed with the Penguins winning the golden ticket to draft Mario Lemieux, who helped turn the Pens franchise around, with the Pens winning their own set of back-to-back Cups in 91 and 92. Since then, the Penguins have won 3 more Cups, while the Flyers have lost all 5 appearances in the Cup Finals since the Broad Street Bullies era.
If anyone asks: I do not support either team, in fact, I support a team that gets scorn from BOTH Pennsylvania-based teams. The one consistent thing between Flyers and Penguins fans: some of them can be freaking insufferable.
My best memories from high school are arguing with my mate who was a Liverpool fan.
And now you can officially say 'you guys started it'. Because they did.
Indeed haha.

Just a couple of points. There was actually no resentment from the City of Liverpool over building the canal. Bearing in mind Liverpool's docks at the time was over seven miles long and they rented out a mere third of a mile to Manchester, they lost hardly any revenue. The reason for opposing it in the courts was because Manchester's designated place for initially striking inland wasn't far enough up the Mersey estuary and engineers confirmed would eventually silt up the the River Mersey as a result. The courts initially instructed Manchester to produce their own engineering reports if the wanted to strike inland at their preferred position. However, Manchester wasn't able to find any engineers to support their position so instead, produced a petition based on Liverpool opposing the canal because of Manchester's perception that Liverpool would lose revenue. This petition was signed by the people of Manchester but the courts basically laughed at them and actually instructed Liverpool's engineers to advise them on where to strike inland.
I’m an American Man U fan and as blue collar as they come but I cannot hate Liverpool but I hope they get smashed every time we play but I have a lot of respect for them and their history

Wow! Now more of a reason to hate both of these clubs.
In my option the hatred these two clubs have for each other is on par of the hated Michigan and Ohio St. have for each other. I know I'm comparing two US universities to two professional football clubs, but Michigan and Ohio St have an intense rivalry
With all due respect, whilst the rivalry between Michigan and Ohio St is the stuff of legend - it's still not a patch on the hatred these two have for each other.
I'm fairly certain that Michigan / Ohio State don't disrespect the opposing dead, pick specific times where they can fight each other and they don't ambush each other's ambulances carrying injured players. All of that is a pretty normal day at the office for any United or Liverpool fan.

I detest Liverpool as a Manchester United fan. However, I also support Everton and the hatred is even deeper on that front. There is a reason why I have a career mode going with them in FIFA 17, and part of the reason is to stick it to Liverpool every chance I get.
I despise Liverpool as a united fan but I feel like we are so similar with politics that maybe we should get over our differences?
You would think so in this day and age - but the truth is probably not.
For the record, as a United fan - I have no problem with Liverpool the actual football team.
They're successful, they play clean attractive football, good manager, good players, great academy, they do a lot for their community. There's nothing to dislike about Liverpool other than their 'fans' that won't hesitate to perpetrate lies, chant about Munich and jump on anything negative about Manchester United. That doesn't describe all of them, of course but most of the 'fans' adopt this approach.
Could we set aside our differences? I believe we could. Whether they want to is a different matter entirely.
I cant stand liverpool
Yes
can you do a video about man u vs man c
I'll consider it, but the hatred is generally one sided.
There's nothing wrong moving from Liverpool to Man United. Afterall, the latter's greatest ever manager is the former Liverpool born and bred captain, Sir Matt Busby. Liverpool have always been the benchmark of excellence that United have strived for. The city has also given the club players like steve copell and Wayne Rooney. Lastly, Liverpool are European royalty with their 6 UCLs/European Cups, a feat that no english or British club can rival let alone emulate.
LFC ❣️ MUFC
How about the El Clasico
Whilst El Classico is fierce, it's nowhere near as bitter as these two.
But the El Clasico involves Spanish politics and history. It was a battle of pro-Franco (Real Madrid) against anti-Franco (Barcelona). It has the elements of the Spanish Civil War. Barcelona was Catalan, rebellious, and left wing while Real Madrid was Castillian, conservative, and right wing.
The rivalry was more than football, it represented difference in attitude, political ideology, and regional culture.
I'm a United fan and quite happy to extend the hand of friendship.
Yes me too. I actually don't mind Liverpool the football team. I quite like City and Everton. I don't even have a problem with any of the London clubs.
Leeds however ...
