Eddy's character is given depth by how, despite being selfish, manipulative, greedy, power-hungry and arrogant, he has compassion for his friends and a desire to fit in with (not reign above) the kids - this is just vitiated because of his brother's influence. Edd's character is given depth by how, despite being outwardly moralistic, pious, abstemious and over-regarding of the rules (i.e. an ethically conscientious genius, like Blossom), he can be just as vainglorious, just as "underhanded", as Eddy is.
Don’t forget that he was only despised or compared to Eddy and Ed since he was a participant or had at least one thing that contributed or was involved with Eddy’s shenanigans and tomfoolery. Same with Ed.
I think Ed's whole thing is that even though he predominantly serves as the intellectually inept muscle of the group, he has his moments where his mind does work. In a way, he has smarts that Edd does not.
I always liked Double D. Even though he was a bit of a wimp, he was super smart and adorable. I can see why Nazz and Sarah had a little bit of a crush on him lol A lovable smart-ass too at times. 😂
I'd argue Ed was the most moral of the trio. The only time he ever did anything in malice was when he attacked Eddy's older brother in Big Picture Show. All the rest of the time, any time he hurt another character, it was because of sheer stupidity. Double D is often called the mature, moral center of the show, but yeah, as this compilation and many comments under it point out, no, he could be a selfish, vindictive, whiny kid sometimes too. Every now and then, he'd act like a smartass, because he very clearly thought of himself as the smartest kid in the cul-de-sac. He has a full on mental breakdown in "Cleanliness is Next to Edliness" simply because he couldn't take a shower. Like, really? He didn't get his way and he freaks out to that point? But I think the worst example is in "Sorry, Wrong Ed," the one with the haunted telephone. Whether Double D believed the damn phone was cursed or not, he didn't bat an eye when bad things kept happening to Eddy, his friend, preferring instead to make fun of him for believing in something as silly as superstition. In general, though, Double D was a good kid and often acted as a good comedic foil to the other two. He was definitely the most respected of the trio by the other neighborhood kids, and for good reason.
I agree mostly but I don't really think "cleanliness is next to edliness" is a good example cause I always felt like Double Dee was written to be coded as having OCD (Him labeling everything in his room and then everything around him in the movie because he can't sleep otherwise, always organized, obsessive hygiene, verbal compulsions - "messy, messy, messy", "not good, not good, not good") so I always saw that episode as him having a breakdown because his routine and hygiene were messed with which makes a lot of sense from the ocd angle But I agree with everything else cause he really is just a kid and acting like he's better than Eddy and Ed when he's shown to enjoy the scams and be just as mean as the others at times isn't fair to his character
Also if I'm honest I don't think Ed is stupid Gullible at times yeah but I feel like he has emotional intelligence n while sometimes he genuinely doesn't understand the weight of his actions (like when Eddy and him pranked Double D in the movie) I do think he understands the scams and knows its not necessarily a good thing to do So like yea he's the most moral out of the eds but its about as moral as a little kid who helps scam other kids out of pocket money every day can be I love both him and dee tho bit eddys my favourite fjzfjd
@@wolfsbian I stand by what I said about "Cleanliness is Next to Edliness" because whether Double D is coded to be OCD, that episode is meant to be ridiculous and funny. Double D freaking out in that episode is more to make the audience laugh than it is to make them feel sympathetic to someone having an OCD-related episode. At least, that's the intention. I think some people could still take it the wrong way and find the episode mean-spirited, even cold-hearted, but I'm not one of those people. The jokes still land, so I just find the episode funny. If it wasn't funny, I'd be singing a different tune. I also completely disagree about Ed. No, he really is just stupid. Sure, he has positive emotional bursts, but that's not really a sign of intelligence. If Double D is coded to be OCD, then Ed is meant to be coded as special needs. But then again, I don't even like thinking of Double D or Ed that way. I never really wanted to look too deep into EEnE as a show for deep messages or social commentary. I can appreciate the little touches that add to the world and the characters in subtle ways, such as how disturbing it is that Ed's bedroom is in his basement, or the fact that Double D's parents communicate to him solely through sticky notes, including one in his bathroom that apparently says "Don't touch yourself," etc., but overanalyzing kid shows in general I believe is an easy way to ruin them for yourself. @@wolfsbian IOW, he can be just as morally bad as the other Peach Creek Kids, although his malice is actually _more genuine_ than Ed's, ironically, hehe. It's no wonder he was paired up numerous times with Marie Kanker throughout the show.
Technically he's not always a 'helpless angel', but when he's either tricked or pranked or messed with then he gets out the big guns...His sassy self with bigger brains and gadgets or his deception.
It’s been fairly obvious since the start Double D Ain’t the weaker than featherweight ed boy. When he’s actually pushed far enough, he’s probably the most dangerous ed, after all he’s capable of toppling Ed and willing to attack Sarah.
Well to be fair, he does have his fair share of reasons for behaving this way. Eddy did blow him and Ed off in "Pick An Ed" and he was only getting back at him, and there are some episodes where he doesn't hesitate to retaliate when Eddy pushes him far enough (like in "Brother, Can You Spare an Ed?"). And in the case of Sarah, honestly, who wouldn't be pissed off at someone who deliberately tests their patience when all they were doing was trying to be nice? She did the same thing with Eddy in "Oath To an Ed". Are we supposed to be shocked when Edd gets pissed off at her? Also, he's only sarcastic towards his friends when they either annoy him or when he can't help but poke fun at them at times. It's only playful teasing, nothing heinous. Overall, the only true episodes Edd was a true jackass were the episodes "Sorry, Wrong Ed" (where he was a callous jerk) and "Who's Minding the Ed?" (where he's, again, a callous jerk). "Mission Ed-possible" is debatable since he shouldn't have delivered Ed's report cards because his parents are no help, but honestly, Eddy deserved his punishment for slacking off. As a character, Edd has his moments where he can be a bit condescending, sarcastic, and never hesitates to retaliate when he's past his limits, but for the most part, he's still a good kid whose heart is most definitely in the right place, and that's what makes him a well-balanced character. His flaws helps make him one of the most likable characters on the show, and for a good reason too.
What about the scene where Double D was holding a class and all the kids attended it and Kevin said something out of line and Double D slapped a big ass pointy "dunce" cap on his head?
5:17 He's actually providing the background music for the situation himself, and Eddy tell's him to stop doing that because it's starting to annoy him, but Edd finds that to be funny.
I laugh every time I rewatch anything from this show, because I was always the Edd of the group. Vindictive brainiac who usually tries to be the 'good guy' but is perfectly willing to be mean if he thinks someone else deserves it (or is just in a mood, I suppose). I'm also annoyed when people describe Ed as 'dumb' or 'stupid'. He's simple, not stupid. There is, in fact, a difference.
I wouldn’t say Double Dee is a little Shit as much as he’s a sassy guy. He puts up with Ed and Eddys shenanigans he has the right to be a bit sassy to Eddy and Ed. If anything he seems to be the most likable Ed out of the trio do to his morals but choose to stay with Ed and Eddy because I loves them like brothers.
3:18 "Don't you see the example that I try to set for you?!?" That's...a really interesting quote. We see in other episodes like the one where Edd tried to help Ed and Eddy become nicer and friendlier to the other kids that he does want them to behave, and in other episodes like Eddy hiding his magazines and the previously mentioned episode, Double Dee is definitely the most respected of the Eds among the kids, with Kevin even being friendly with him when the other Eds aren't around, to the point that when the other 2 Eds did get on their nerves, they go to Double Dee instead of confronting them themselves. Sure they could still him as a part of the group, but they may also see him as the only one that can actually have a decent shot at making the Eds better behaved. So, why does he help with the scams if he wants the Eds to behave? I think Double Dee wants the scams to become actually legitimate and offer actual value. We see examples of this when he was outraged that Eddy didn't tell him about his true scam with the Thingimajig, when trying to make the Lemonade as closely to the book as possible for the Ed-O-Gee Drinks, and most prominently, getting angry at Eddy for not following the scam as he instructed in the movie, telling him in response to Eddy yelling at Edd that he built the thing, that it would have work if he followed his instructions and didn't press the red button. Points could be made for Ed being the kindest one of the trio, but Double Dee is the one trying to make these scams as legitimate as possible. Of course, there are outlier examples that I may have forget which could contradict my point that I'm sure people will comment, but hey; that's the nature of debating. Make a point; try to justify the point, and see the reaction.
Uh ok you could argue he might be as bad as Ed since Ed's offenses are due to his low intelligence and therefore not done with malice... but Eddy? Seriously? The dude lives to try and screw people out of their money. He regularly physically hurts others on purpose if it suits his mood. Any level of sass Edd has given is easily quadroupled by Eddy's obnxiousness or malice. I mean hell this complilation is mostly Edd chasting Eddy for being a scumbag. He dropped the key because Eddy and Ed tricked him into thinking he had a fatal disease, he used the stinger on Eddy's ass because Eddy was assaulting and berating Ed, he revelled in Eddy's fear of the needle because Eddy spent the whole episode exploiting Kevin's phobia of needles, he cheated against Eddy in the race because Eddy cheated first. You are right hes not a perfect angel, he has his moments where he is in the wrong, but the vast majority of the time hes acting in response to things and isn't the one to start things. Eddy on the other hand is an instigator.
Honestly, if someone tried to purposely get me sick out of spite if I didnt do everything 100% for them while their ill, I might snap the fuck out too. Maybe not to cartoonish levels of violence of D's, I'd just yell, storm off, and feel bad after.
I like how some of the clips contradict themselves too, like Edd calling out ed for defying the laws of physics when no part of the egg race clip followed them at all
You forgot that part when he just kept talking and talking and talking... until Eddy had enough and told him to shut up. (It was in this episode with the key as I recall...)
Yea there were a bunch of clips I left out either cause I forgot or was worried that the video would get blocked cause it would be too long lol Might make a part 2
Favorite character in the show, I'm glad he got although those moments to shit on some of these characters, especially with how they treated him. He's like the nicest one on the show, let him have his payback lol
Funny thing about Eddy is the voice actor did VA'ing as a side gig. After Ed Edd n Eddy much like the character he portrays, he went to get rich and did so, since his current career is working with oil.
Its interesting to see Double D evolve as a character from his Season 1 to him in the Movie. He went from doing whatever Eddy wanted to arguing with him over why his ideas don't work.
Just noticed that Edd used the term “Turtledoves” when using “reverse psychology” on the Kankers, the same term he used with May after he got hit by Cupid’s Arrow. That’s a nice attention to detail.
Can you blame, Bruh? YOU try putting up with Ed and Eddy's nonsense for as long as he has, *and see just how long your patience realistically lasts!* 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Double D did nothing wrong given the fact that he puts up with everyone else's bullshit. He's the hero that had no choice to become a villain
He's just a mischievous child who likes his friends and likes scamming even when he pretends he's above it
You can be justified in being rude and still be rude gkfgkx
@Crimson Outdoors Co. True Ed and Eddy help double D out of his comfort zone and not be so uptight at times. Thats how I see it.
More like anti hero
@@wolfsbian IOW, he can be just as morally bad as the other Peach Creek Kids, although his malice is actually _more genuine_ than Ed's, ironically, hehe.
It's no wonder he was paired up numerous times with Marie Kanker throughout the show.
I mean, to be fair, a lot of these clips are out of context and pale in comparison to what Eddy gets up to. But he certainly is over-dramatic.
I mean if they play to what Eddy's doing in the moment then I'd say they're in context

Wow, that’s clever.

Can you blame him? The kids are supposed to be 10-14, and they each have the IQ of stones in this episode
Yeah, they weren’t exactly the brightest bunch in this episode, and I don’t know why.
Probably for the comedy
He summarized it best at the end of the episode: “I’m surrounded by idiots.”
It’s been fairly obvious since the start Double D Ain’t the weaker than featherweight ed boy. When he’s actually pushed far enough, he’s probably the most dangerous ed, after all he’s capable of toppling Ed and willing to attack Sarah.
He also strangled ed with his legs when he dropped his ant farm

Ikr. Ed should've let Double D let go so he could beat Sarah, she definitely deserved that

She said "buzz off" but Sarah absolutely says fuck! I can't really imagine any of the kids not swearing rjshrs
In Double D's defense he knew how Eddy went too far for treating him like a slave sometimes and using him for his selfish goals.
The sounds effects of this show are so silly, I just love how at 4:27 there's a toilet flush sound effect for no reason xd
I thought the RUclipsr did that one though 🤣🤣🤣
Their is a reason why Sarah is the most hated character in Ed, Edd, n Eddy.
Watching this back as an adult, I completely understand every word Edd is saying
I approve of Edd's Passive Aggressive and snarky, attitude towards the chaos that happens around him
I love his malicious/sarcastic side

What about the scene where Double D was holding a class and all the kids attended it and Kevin said something out of line and Double D slapped a big ass pointy "dunce" cap on his head?
Eddy bopped that shit over his face then pushed him and he tripped and fell backwards.
5:17 He's actually providing the background music for the situation himself, and Eddy tell's him to stop doing that because it's starting to annoy him, but Edd finds that to be funny.
Perfect
5:21 how did he do this so well 🤣😁
Man when he gets revenge on people, he gets them so hard.
3:11 WHATAYADOIN!?
"I haven't had this much fun since Father let me disassemble his shaver."
XD
I wouldn’t say Double Dee is a little Shit as much as he’s a sassy guy. He puts up with Ed and Eddys shenanigans he has the right to be a bit sassy to Eddy and Ed. If anything he seems to be the most likable Ed out of the trio do to his morals but choose to stay with Ed and Eddy because I loves them like brothers.
3:18 "Don't you see the example that I try to set for you?!?"
That's...a really interesting quote.
And this is why he’s the best in the group😭✋🏻
That part made me laugh so hard. 🤣 5:12
Yea there were a bunch of clips I left out either cause I forgot or was worried that the video would get blocked cause it would be too long lol
Might make a part 2
When I was a kid... I really went like o o: was that my mind? When he apparently hit and pushed Eddy.
He always was one of my favorite characters.
It's moments like these that make sure Edd isn't like a bunch of other nerdy characters that can barely fend for themselves.
I love that about him!
Double-D always had the potential to be the most dangerous character on the show if he ever actually decided to be mean.
Actually it was Ed, due to his insane and otherwordly strength. But Edd comes in a close second due to his incredible and precocious intelligence.
Eddy deserves that edd is the only character that has commen sense.

Intelligence with confidence. A terrifying combo.
I feel like double d is solely responsible for my excessive vocabulary. Damn.
Double D nails the reverse psychology!
Its interesting to see Double D evolve as a character from his Season 1 to him in the Movie. He went from doing whatever Eddy wanted to arguing with him over why his ideas don't work.
"Could be all those swooning adolescent girlfriends that reside in your mind!"
_Oh, the irony..._
Just noticed that Edd used the term “Turtledoves” when using “reverse psychology” on the Kankers, the same term he used with May after he got hit by Cupid’s Arrow. That’s a nice attention to detail.
