Also, you’re right about obelites. The more money you have the more you can buy. And once you figure out which items are better than others you’ll be good to go. Hiding behind doors can be useful in a pinch, but always go for those obelites as much as possible. Also, avoid malignant items most of the time. You can still pick up some though when weighing risk and reward. Usually, on topic, I mostly risk malignancy on large obelite rocks you can break. More money equals more goods. For parasites and artifacts also focus on things that help with protection or damage. Some great ones are the parasite that brings you back when you die, the parasite that brings your health up when low, the artifact that grants 2 percent integrity per adrenaline level, the item that does 30 percent more damage when enemies are low on health, protection and damage augments, and so on and so on. When picking up malignant items though always make sure the gain is worth the negative. Agree that protection items always trump more health. More health is nice if you have extra money, not saying don’t get it I usually do every run, but get the silphium vials first, get the astronaut first, get protection augments first. Then worry about health. But always plan ahead. Don’t buy everything you come across and think about what you may want.
Also, melee is your friend. And it is your best friend in biome 1. The longer dragon type larger bosses will always be staggered and fall over when hit with the sword and you can usually kill them before they get up, usually in 3 hits but some take 6 for some reason. Same with the yellow creatures. One melee hit stuns and it’s 6 hits total to kill them and they usually remain staggered the whole time. If your timing is good, melee can also be used in a pinch for flying enemies if you get surrounded. The blue lizard things can also be one hit meleed and I use melee only for those usually. You can clear biome 1 all rooms fairly quickly when using this method, but do what works best for you. Also dashing can make you immune to many attacks. Use it when hit with a wall of bullets.
Be familiar with your guns. Note which alt fire weapons work for you and know what you have on your current gun. Note any side augments on the gun and attributes, like Portal Beam or Leeching Rounds on the Hollowseeker for example. Both good things to have. When you’re leveling up guns when your starting out also keep an eye out for locked traits on guns you pick up, you can unlock these through use and they are then available on other guns.
Items. When first starting out use the item machine or the fabricator that makes new items, but causes damage, when you can. This will get more items into the world for future playthroughs. Also, I did use the broken fabricators initially, as it often also gave me new items, but these are generally a no use later on because you’re spending obelites for a random item and you’ll want those to spend on items you want and know what they are later.
Random tips. Statues with glowing yellow eyes hold obelites. Break them and you’ll get them. Some walls, rarely, can be shot and broken through. You’ll know them when you see them but they look like choppy concrete with red dots in them. You’ll also see glowing yellow tentacle creatures in rooms sometimes. I avoided these as I thought they were hostile, and they flash and disappear after about 30 seconds. Turns out they don’t fight back and are full of obelites for every hit and sometimes drop items. If you see them, swing away.
Always be moving. And when you get the grappling hook, use this to your advantage.
Finally, in a pinch, you don’t have to fight everyone unless there is a locked room. It may not be the most courageous, but it’s ok to run. You do get checkpoints in Returnal, like if you get a boss key for example you can go right back to the boss with a shortcut, but make sure you’re leveled up first. I am not ashamed to admit my first goes on Biome 3 I would get thrashed in half my runs. Sometimes I’d just book it to the boss and conserve as much as I could. You can’t find resources this way but you can conserve the resources you have. As a last resort though if you’re stuck and frustrated. If you don’t play and fight, you’ll never get better so keep that in mind and don’t abuse this one.
There’s prob more I’m forgetting right now but just wanted to add a few here for anyone that may come across it. Have fun and cheers.
Why doesn't this guy have more likes?????
“Do not hide behind doors” I feel attacked
😂😂😂😂 I WAS GUILTY OF THIS TOO!!!
I use that for extra hard rooms when I already farmed a lot. It’s frustrating to die right before a boss fight fully stocked.
That being said, already finished the game and loved it so much!
There have been times where I have WASTED my health packs AND extra lives entering a stupid side room before the boss room…
Yeah I mean if you have progressed a bunch, are ready for a boss and you dont want to get hit you can do this or when you encounter some enemy that is hard to kill. I did this everytime with those stupid ass drones in biome 3
@@miufs I’m always on like 15% health when I get to the second boss
It’s funny because I hated this GAME AT FIRST…. after a great weekend of DRINKING JD.. it finally clicked!🥃 plus these tips helped a lot! BUT ITS ACTUALLY REALLY ADDICTING that every run could be a Gamble!
Thanks for the vid. Very helpful
Ive beaten returnal 20x over and this is genuinely the best few tips ive seen. A lot of people dont understand just how important obelites are. I get irritated when i watch people playing through the game just hiding behind doors, and only picking up like 1/8th of the currency, then not being able to afford anything.
It really is addictive. I usually only platinum games I really enjoy to pay homage to them, and this is one I platinum’d. Usually after that I put the game down for a while but I still find myself going back to do a run here and there in Returnal. It just hasn’t got old yet.
Thanks for the tips! Great video
I’m glad my tips helped you! I’m working on a full game walk through!
Great tips!
The last tip was really helpful. I never thought of that even reaching biome 3.
Yea I was getting super frustrated because I would have a huge health bar and then in BIOME 3 all the enemies would like HALVE my health with one hit!!
On the topic of controls, I think it is INCREDIBLY important to remap the dash or melee (or both) buttons to shoulder buttons so you can keep your thumbs on the sticks.
I never did remap the controls, but I am tempted to try so I can master that SUPER jump speedrunners do! Looks like a lot of fun!
@@FornaTRON good luck! A lot of people do Dash L1 and Melee R1, which I think makes the most sense. Though personally I find having Square as melee and Dash as R1 works better for me.
This is why claw grip exists, no need to remap if you use it
Great video!
Thank you!
Nicely put together mate
Yo thank you! I super appreciate that! Glad you liked the video!
Melee is also one of my faves when close as I auto collect all obolites dropped from enemy.
That’s a smart move! Especially in Biome 1 just wrecking the enemies with the Atropian blade!
Not picked it up yet but cool video man!
Awesome video Fornatron! I'm still working on the plat. The RNG based collectibles are pissing me off!
RIGHT?? I only have the survey trophy for the first BIOME … I have a lot of grinding to do! Also my game glitched on me and didn’t give me the trophy for all house scenes. So I have to delete my save file and beat the game and collect all the sun fragments again…
I personally found that the “always sprint” option messed up my precision of movement a bit. I think it’s a good idea for most players, but for some it may not be the best tip.
Good tips mate I already do all the things you mentioned and I'm a couple of survey trophies away from plat. Excellent game enjoying every minute...
Dude I’m working on survey trophies for biome 2,4,5,6 … I still got a ways to go! Ahahah thanks for checking out my video!
@@FornaTRON good luck hope you don't run into the same glitch I have...
Good stuff. I found sprint and dash remapped to bumpers super helpful. The combat is sorta straightforward but holy crap is the health and upgrades stuff a convoluted mess, imo.
Returnal is the hardest game I have played since sekiro.i love returnal but starting over is so hatd.
I sorta wish every game just did what Assasin's Creed or The Witcher did with running where you just hold the analog stick as hard as you want to run. So like push it all the way forward to sprint, mid way to jog, and just nudge it forward to walk. Turning Always Run on in Fortnite changed my life.
EXACTLY! Pushing L3 or R3 is BUSH LEAGUE!
@@FornaTRON it's the worst thing in console gaming.
Great video man! Love this game and needed some tips to keep kickin ass instead of getting my ass kicked. Thanks
I believe in you!!!! GO REK THIS GAME!! You can do it! Get the secret ending!
Thanks brotha I’m for sure gonna do my best. I’m the same way as u tho. Love all dark souls type games and this was a diff change of pace but I’m gettin the hang of it. It’s tons of fun too which helps.
I bought Returnal and I'm gonna play it after I finish Rift Apart. In some ways I think Rift Apart is an easy version of Returnal, it has a lot of the same gameplaymechanics. In both games you're running around killing enemies and dodging attacks (certainly the arena's).In both games you have the DASH function and R&C's slingshot is the same as the grapple in Returnal. The rifts in R&C are also basically the same thing as using the grapple in Returnal.
That is a very… unique perspective. Returnal is NOT for everyone. But it is a very rewarding game when you learn its mechanics. It is very challenging at first but you get better and the game opens up. I really hope you give it a solid go! Thanks for watching my video!
I did Returnal first, then Rift Apart - I completely agree - very similar mechanics. Both great games.
I'm stuck on biome 3 boss, Nemesis. Any tips to beat him please?
I’m guessing the third phase is the one giving you problems? If so, the key is using the grapple to move platforms to through his attacks (particularly the yellow lasers - if you can avoid / those in phase 3, you should be fine).
Cool video
Thank you! I tried!
@@FornaTRON I liked it bro
Spend some time getting good at melee. When I die and I am stuck with the starter pistol I literally kill everything with my sword. It can 1 shot most things in the 1st & 4th biome.
You can DESTROY biome 1 purely on Melee!
well i had this game and i totally sucked at it i spent so long playing my eyes went bloodshot i could not make it past the the 3rd wave on the first boss.. i hated it so for my sanity i sold the game.. now i err miss it so i am thinking about getting it again.. so if i do i will take your advice and if i crash and burn again i will blame you lol
Yo! I also started a full game guide! GET IT AGAIN! You can SURVIVE! Also check out my videos ruclips.net/video/EiDZARWe_2U/видео.html
Good tips but heath and second life don't protect you. Please clarify
This game is more frustrating than battletoads. I thought I had finally learned to control my anger then returnal happened. I wish I could return returnal but I bought a digital copy.
You can do it! I believe in youuuu!!! BEAT RETURNAL! YOU GOT THIS!
I put together a really good run and I finally beat Ixion!! Thank you for believing in me!!
In my experience returnal is wayyyy harder than sekiro. You can’t full heal right before a boss fight! I just had a 2 hour run trying to grind before biome 2 boss and I had to fight him low health. Of course I ate it on the third round. So disheartening lol. But I love love love the challenge.
That’s true! Sometimes you just have crap runs and get like NO health anywhere! I have a walkthrough guide you should check it out! Thanks for watching my video and commenting!
man, spoiling the final boss fight? not cool! fortunately I just finished the game🤔
Lol I don’t think I spoiled the last boss fight!
@@FornaTRON well you showed it, how is it not a spoiler? 🤔
When I hear git gut🤮🤮🤮
Sounds like someone needs to "Git Gud" 😂
Aim assist on high ? Come on... It makes the game almost easy
this is for like the 80% of players who couldn't beat Phrike...
@@FornaTRON 😁
@@guillaumeklein8118 This game is really not about aiming. A lot of people would probably still struggle with complete auto aim. Its really an arcade bullet hell game at heart, and the point is just to dodge and hip fire in the general direction of the enemies. Though there are certain guns that take some accuracy even with the aim assist, and you have to be genuinely good to use them no matter what.
