Mike, yes Catherine is Australian. (She was born in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia), In 2002 Elton John heard her album "Dusty Smiles and Heartbreak Cures" while he was touring Australia and brought her to the attention of some people in Nashville, Tennessee. Her album was re-released in 2002 and she received her first nomination for Country Album of the Year. She moved to Nashville in 2004 stayed there until 2008. In that time she had three top 40 singles on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. As already mentioned, there is an Alice Springs in Australia. There is also a small village named Alice in New South Wales, Australia where Catherine grew up. I don't know exactly which of these locations the song is referring to. Alice Springs sits the middle of the continent in the Northern Territory, Australia. Then there's the small village of Alice which is in the south east region of the continent in New South Wales. It is located just west of Mount Pikapene National Park in the Northern Rivers region and is about 260 miles north of Newcastle where Catherine was born. So, I can't say for sure but I would almost bet that the small village of Alice in New South Wales could possibly be the place she's referring to in the song since it's in the region where she was born. But like I said, I can't say for sure. It could also be referring to Alice Springs. As for her use of the word "miles" I'm guessing it's because as someone else said, it just sounds better in the song. Additionally, using the word "miles" would have helped market the song in the US at that time better than saying kilometers. Plus, a four-syllable word like kilometers would just have a hard time fitting into the musical cadence and rhythm of how that chorus was written. Anyway, Catherine eventually moved back to Australia. She has released seven studio albums in Australia, where all seven have appeared on the ARIA Albums Chart. In 2015 Catherine was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent surgery and chemotherapy.
You may possibly be right about it being the small town of Alice in New South Wales. Considering that's near the part of Australia where she grew up and if she wrote or co-wrote the song then it would make sense. Great request. Love her voice and the traditional style of country she does.
Great song Mike. Unfortunately, the very beginning of the song is cut off. (It's a good idea to try and always make sure that slider is pulled all the way back to the beginning of the video before you hit play) But it still sounds great just the same and she has an excellent traditional country sound. Great reaction. Hope to hear more of Catherine on your channel.
Hey what a great song . This is new to me 😮 and I’m not a country head but I appreciated this . A bit of Outback Country if yer like 😊 Wait 😮 what’s happening to me . Thanks Mike .
Australia changed from using miles to kilometers in 1974ish The word miles fits better in this song than kilometers maybe. Never heard of her either but I don't listen to much country, she sounds good.
Catherine Britt and Lee Kernaghan - " Country Fan " Great song. Also check out Adam Harvey and Tory Cassar - Daley awesome Aussie country artists. Cheers thanks🤠🪃
Cathrine Britt is an Aussie and Alice Springs is in "the red centre" of Aust, close to Uluru (Ayers Rock) Sadly Alice Springs is Aust most dangerous city and ranked 18th most dangerous city in the world😞
Im NOT buying you a coffee, BUTTTTTTTTTTT you really should listen, for your OWN entertainment, to Thirsty Merc, 20 good reasons, you would also make money from the hits you would get.
