It's not just about the leaders. People who put their religion over humanity and country are also responsible for that. When Indians fought for the freedom of a single nation India(I'm talking about India before 1947), there was no need to create a new nation. I'm not blaming Muslims or Hindus here. But If Muslims would have never demanded a new nation, India would have been a united country and we didn't have to witness that massacre. India is still a secular country where Pakistan is an Islamist nation and this is where everything is wrong. Muslim population in India is increasing and the Hindu population in Pakistan is decreasing day by day. Something is wrong.

I am from a family that was hit by this event , we were landlords in our area and in days we became refugees to a new country . My grand parents had to leave their homes , their land , their everything in minutes . We came to newly built india , passed time in refugee camps , did hardwork to build all those things back . I am a product of both countries. My father grew up in India and moved over to Pakistan in the 60s. My mother is from Punjab in Pakistan. Punjab is divided between India and Pakistan. My maternal grandmother was a Rajput, which was a Hindu caste. I have relatives on both sides of the border and am in regular contact with them. I can totally relate to the history and the culture.

One thing that wasn't clearly depicted in this video was how all the wars between the two countries were initiated by Pakistan to capture Indian territories even after an initial agreement towards the border. True that the divide is maintained due to politics but you can't expect to stay silent if the Pakistan's government and military are hell bent on disturbing the peace of india. The statement from Modi was probably in retaliation to the hatred and conspiracies coming from across the border and not to forget the persecution and forced conversion of religious minorities in Pakistan. Also there is much more political history of partition before Mountbatten came. That video does not cover all the points and perspectives.
True. The two-nation theory started with Sir Syed. And it developed in the form of Muslim League. They tried to change demographics to claim greater land, which created much regional hate like Assamese vs Bengalis that continue to this day. Even the Mopala riots of Kerala was an expression of Muslims claiming separate national identity and othering the Hindus. The English accepted it in a hurry to leave India.

After the partition, India tried to focus on development and communal harmony, but the Pakistani politics and army spread the fake narrative of Kashmir being a part of pakistan (which it wasn't) and initiated 4 wars in which they were badly defeated by India! Not everything is hunky Dory between the two nations! India is a symbol of peace and development whereas pakistan emerged as a nation which uses terrorism as its state policy! If i would have born in that era i would have definitely sacrificed myself for my country in protesting against division. Partition was the most painful. I still feel the pain n still believe partition was not needed.
Actually Gandhi was against partition but their was a significant amount of Muslim population who wanted separate state and Mohammad Ali Jinnah was the leader of that movement and the Indian National Congress was also against the partition but during the end of 1930s and early 1940s they understood that the partition was inevitable also the leaders on both side were not happy with the borders but they accepted whatever they were offered just for the sake of a independent state...YES British did messed up the borders also YES that the both sides lack empathy for eachother.

Three of my four grandparents came from Pakistan during partition. They had to start their lives from scratch. It’s due to their hard work, we can live comfortable lives.
My Grand parents used to live in Sialkot ( presently in Pakistan) ..from where they were forced to flee to indian side in 1947. Once well affluent they were forced to leave without a single thing. It was very difficult for them to start from zero and they lived all their life in poverty till their sons ( my dad along with other three sons) grew up and started earing. One will not understand their agony...

Radcliffe guy was flown down last minute but around that time Muslim League started massacres like Calcutta Killings, Noahkhali killings, forcing a hasty solution. They didn't create Pakistan from peace talks. There was further killings during Bangladesh war, and again pillaging during their occupation of Kashmir by Pakistan. I wish the problem started and ended with Radcliffe but it goes way beyond. Yet notice how there is no clip of hate speech from Pakistan side. Partition was not something the British or Indians wanted. It was a Muslim League idea of two nation theory. Leaving that important factor out of the narrative is so convenient.

When Indians fought for the freedom of a single nation India(I'm talking about India before 1947), there was no need to create a new nation. I'm not blaming Muslims or Hindus here. But If Muslims would have never demanded a new nation, India would have been a united country and we didn't have to witness that massacre. My grand parents had to leave their homes , their land , their everything in minutes . We came to newly built india , passed time in refugee camps , did hardwork to build all those things back . I am a product of both countries. My father grew up in India and moved over to Pakistan in the 60s. My mother is from Punjab in Pakistan. Punjab is divided between India and Pakistan. My maternal grandmother was a Rajput, which was a Hindu caste. I have relatives on both sides of the border and am in regular contact with them. I can totally relate to the history and the culture.
India never started a single war of all the 4 wars fought between India and Pakistan.

One thing that wasn't clearly depicted in this video was how all the wars between the two countries were initiated by Pakistan to capture Indian territories even after an initial agreement towards the border.

Also there is much more political history of partition before Mountbatten came. That video does not cover all the points and perspectives.
True. The two-nation theory started with Sir Syed. And it developed in the form of Muslim League. They tried to change demographics to claim greater land, which created much regional hate like Assamese vs Bengalis that continue to this day. Even the Mopala riots of Kerala was an expression of Muslims claiming separate national identity and othering the Hindus. The English accepted it in a hurry to leave India.

If i would have born in that era i would have definitely sacrificed myself for my country in protesting against division. Partition was the most painful. I still feel the pain n still believe partition was not needed.
Actually Gandhi was against partition but their was a significant amount of Muslim population who wanted separate state and Mohammad Ali Jinnah was the leader of that movement and the Indian National Congress was also against the partition but during the end of 1930s and early 1940s they understood that the partition was inevitable also the leaders on both side were not happy with the borders but they accepted whatever they were offered just for the sake of a independent state...YES British did messed up the borders also YES that the both sides lack empathy for eachother.

There's a Doctor Who episode called Demons of Punjab which is based around the partition. Gives a perspective of the mindset of the people and shows the losses that were suffered. Obviously it's a British sci-fi drama (one of my favourites) that's been running for half a century, so you'll need to have some context about the show's universe and the protagonist (The Doctor) before diving into the episode. But it's an amazing and heartbreaking story.

Three of my four grandparents came from Pakistan during partition. They had to start their lives from scratch. It’s due to their hard work, we can live comfortable lives.
My Grand parents used to live in Sialkot ( presently in Pakistan) ..from where they were forced to flee to indian side in 1947. Once well affluent they were forced to leave without a single thing. It was very difficult for them to start from zero and they lived all their life in poverty till their sons ( my dad along with other three sons) grew up and started earing. One will not understand their agony...

Radcliffe guy was flown down last minute but around that time Muslim League started massacres like Calcutta Killings, Noahkhali killings, forcing a hasty solution. They didn't create Pakistan from peace talks. There was further killings during Bangladesh war, and again pillaging during their occupation of Kashmir by Pakistan. I wish the problem started and ended with Radcliffe but it goes way beyond. Yet notice how there is no clip of hate speech from Pakistan side. Partition was not something the British or Indians wanted. It was a Muslim League idea of two nation theory. Leaving that important factor out of the narrative is so convenient.
