My first live concert was the fourth grade field trip to hear the Cleveland Orchestra play the Nutcracker. Even as an adult and many symphonies later, I will never forget hearing that Celesta in the Sugar Plum fairy for the first time. It was absolutely magical.
Tchaikovsky's letter to a friend, regarding keep doing art and mastering disinclination. "We must always work, and a self-respecting artist must not fold his hands on the pretext that he is not in the mood. If we wait for the mood, without endeavoring to meet it halfway, we easily become indolent and apathetic. We must be patient, and believe that inspiration will come to those who can master their disinclination. A few days ago I told you I was working every day without any real inspiration. Had I given way to my disinclination, undoubtedly I should have drifted into a long period of idleness. But my patience and faith did not fail me, and today I felt the inexplicable glow of inspiration of which I told you; thanks to which I know beforehand that whatever I write today will have power to make an impression, and to touch the hearts of those who hear it."
@@janette2422 Yes, unfortunately, what you state is so true. It's no wonder our world is in such a state of disarray now. I pity my children and grandchildren. This country if it continues on this path will never in many lifetimes be able to live in the manner in which I grew up, in the late 40's and throughout the 50's. So sad!!
True, so true. Don't wait for the inspiration, practice your skill even if the results are bad or uninspired (and hurt your pride). Practice so that when the inspiration finally comes you're in your prime and ready to make the best of it. I used to wait for "the mood" too, but I waited so long, my skill got worse and worse. Still struggling to get myself to where I want to be, consuming less, creating more but I think I'm on a good track. Good luck to all of you fighting the same battle :)

You can find this Genius nowadays. The problem is that no one cares. No one cares because my generation invented slang words such as swag, Y.O.L.O, etc.
VyniranGaming its not that they dont care as much as its their brains have degenerated so far, they cant' comprehend as this being hard or genius. Right?
Listen to Mozart, Bach and Beethoven, then to Tchaikovsky. The earlier composers feel like walking through a beautiful museum or palace of marble. Listening to Tchaikovsky feels like walking through meadows full of flowers and birds with vibrant colors and rich smells drenching the air.
you should listen to Symphony no. 6 you'll find evidence a troubled Tchaikovsky (some say it was his own suicide note) except perhaps in the second movement which is more cheerful contrasting the 1st and 3rd movement
Krystsina M well, just because russia does not approve of someone being gay does not mean that he can't be! I believe that homosexual people are born that way and it is not a matter of decision. Everybody should feel free to be themselves no matter what is disapproved and what is not. Btw there are certain erotic letters he wrote to a another man that were found in his house that can support the fact that he was homosexual. But that doesn't matter. It's his music that we should care about.
Krystsina M Well said Krystsina!! A true genius. That's all that matters. Russia should be proud to be 'coming out' against the rampant homosexual agenda.
First of all HE WAs GAY Second, that matters cause that influenced all his life (thanks to the glorious russian culture! -_-). Just listen to the Symphony 6 and tell me if it's a symphony or a requiem. He hated his life because he couldn't love who wanted, that's all. Some people are gay, get over it.
I'm here to support Russian music art and culture. A good number of people from the US are currently on a throw out and cancel anything Russian tirade. I refuse to join them.
ME TOO I REFUSE TO JOIN THEM - now even more so - they try to bann Russian art - and the result? all will start or continue to watch and read and listen to RUSSIAN ART
+Jesse McClure Classical music is very cheap these days. You can buy quality recordings of the entirety of music produced from 1700 to 1940 for about one paycheck's worth.
+Jesse McClure You know, unless you insist on buying original pressings and original phonographs and other things that cost way, way too much entirely because of sentiment.
The Russans soul, deeply, dramatisk, melankolsk, ...No one compares. I still remember the day when I had read Lev Tolstoi, The War and The Peace, listening Tchaikovsky ...in my small house in Hanoi, as a child 7 y.o. The new world had opend to me. And this spirit helping me in hold of my life.
That's because he's the most famous Russian composer. It's not him that was influenced by the "Russian classical music". It's the Russian classical music that was influenced by him. When we think of that kind of music, we just expect it to sound similar to Tchaikovsky's compositions.
sophia88two After all these years Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No.2 still brings tears of joy to my eyes. But you can definitely hear Tchaikovsky's powerful influence in his work.
This is metal before we knew what metal was. The darkness and ability to tip either way towards hope or madness in those first few minutes paint such a vivid portrait.
No worse than me I have small dogs, one currently on my lap. She's trying to direct the music now! Keeps poking her nose at the screen. Paws flailing like she's trying to catch the notes in mid air.

Love Tchaikovsky. His music is so powerful and emotion packed. Don't always get that with orchestrated music. He wears his emotions on his sleeve. Love that about Tchi
Tchaikovsky is an absolute mystery which is not yet understood despite of tons of all kind of performances. He was obviously initiated into the deepest and highest musicological spheres as to the very God's language. He is indeed a true minnesinger, the one who glorifies the pure and eternal love via his mesmerising masterpieces.
Tchaikovsky is remembered for the beauty of his works, some of which are among the most popular pieces of music in the classical repertoire. In our video, we ponder his legacy and influence, and look back on his life of tragedy and talent: bit.ly/10FactsAboutTchaikovsky.
talking about influence.... some of the best heavy metal has the same roots (technicaly speaking) as this gentleman.... if he was a source of inspiration for them or not... they sort of got there (where ever there is) playing different instruments... cello, violin, piano etc.. on one hand... and drums bass and guitar on the other.... 100 years apart... i find this sublime...music is like maths... universal, time has nothing to do with it... it is today what was yesterday.... and will be tomorrow ( this came out deeper than i thought it would lol )
Hearing the opening notes of Piano Concerto No 1. really unlocked a core memory. My sisters and I used to blast that song on an old CD when we were younger and I've only just now discovered it was written by Tchaikovsky!!! It was one of my favourite songs and I'm happy to say it still is.
Pyotr Tchaikovsky wrote so much of the music I listened too as a kid. I’ve only recently “discovered” classical music and Tchaikovsky is by far my favorite composer. His music brings me a lot of nostalgia from when I was younger. His Swan Lake composition specifically has many many songs that I heard when I was a kid.
Tchaikovsky was often described as a very kind, humble, honest, shy, brilliant person who always had the hint of Russian melancholy. A very relatable human.
I am a lay fan of western classical. To others - more knowledgeable ones - it may be Bach, Mozart ( I love them all ) but to me it is always Tchaikovsky and will always be. Because that is how my romance with classical music began , the first chords of Tchaikovsky and it was love at first ,- how do you put it - listening. Thanks YT and Halidon.
Same, big fun of Tchaikovsky. Beethoven is too emotional for me, and Mozart makes me feel that I am not smart enough to listen to his works. But with Tchaikovsky, I can still do my research work, without feeling disrupted or mocked. If that makes sense.
:) I had a Russian ballet teacher of German heritage when I was a child, we had a grand piano in the corner of the studio and in every class, we practised to Tchaikovsky played live by the pianist. It was all very strict and serious but lovely nevertheless. Some of my best childhood memories. :)
Oui!
I am 36 years old and have only recently begun listening to classical music. I have always mainly listened to pop music from the 60's, 70's and 80's, never paying much attention to other genres of music. After listening to the music of composers like Tchaikovsky, I am only now starting to recognize and appreciate the musical genius behind works such as this, and I'm looking forward to discovering more music like this, thanks to RUclips for making that so easy to do.
One of the barriers re this type of music is the word...classical. Some conductors prefer to describe it as orchestral considering we have all heard it throughout our lives on film soundtracks, TV programmes, etc. My late husband was a rock musician and loved classical music so we purposely broadened our kid's music experience. My son loves 'classical'. My daughter loves jazz. Our grandson...blues music...studied all the great blues and classical harmonica players. Now, they keep me up to speed with amazing music and musicians.
These songs remind me of my mother, who is in stage 3 cancer right now. The doctors say that she won't pulll through. These songs are the only solace from my waking moments of pure agony waiting on the impending absence of her soul. God Help us All.
Dostoevsky too... Both seemed to have an enlightened and empathic understanding of the human experience and expressed it beautifully through their respective works of art.

Tchaikovsky more modern sounding than Mozart, and was of the romantic era. I don’t think his depression mattered to his composing, or rather he poured his heart out in his music and sought happiness and fulfillment in the magical world of music.

Easily the best orchestrator of the 19th Century. There was NOTHING he didn't know how to get an orchestra to do, and though he had a distinct style, the writing never sounded the same from piece to piece. Also, quite possibly the best melody composer I've ever heard. I can't even think of how many of his melodies are permanently engrained in the public consciousness. Tchaikovsky has a very particular place in my heart. Though I don't care for his symphonies or solo piano works, when he let his art tell a story, I swear, there were moments when my heart almost stopped from heartache. Quite simply, despite a few faults, he is and will always remain one of my favourite composers of all time.
I'm glad this video got so many views. To know there are more and more young people that listen to this music, just feels good.

But my patience and faith did not fail me, and today I felt the inexplicable glow of inspiration of which I told you; thanks to which I know beforehand that whatever I write today will have power to make an impression, and to touch the hearts of those who hear it."
appetite comes with eating, and inspiration often comes during a routine work :)
this kind of discipline is so lost on today's society. Thank you so much for sharing this
@@janette2422 Yes, unfortunately, what you state is so true. It's no wonder our world is in such a state of disarray now. I pity my children and grandchildren. This country if it continues on this path will never in many lifetimes be able to live in the manner in which I grew up, in the late 40's and throughout the 50's. So sad!!
wow and i was about to give in to that distraction....it's a daily fight for LIFE,LIFE IS GOOD,conquer the small vexations and LOVE WILL FLOW!!!!!
Tchaikovsky's music it's like a therapist, it heals the soul and reduces the pain

Music therapy for Deep sleep cycles has been my go to for decades. Put on a set of headphones as I often slept days and could sleep like a stone while the music was playing. It occupied my mind away from my career. Helped with PTSD !

Listen to Mozart, Bach and Beethoven, then to Tchaikovsky.
The earlier composers feel like walking through a beautiful museum or palace of marble. Listening to Tchaikovsky feels like walking through meadows full of flowers and birds with vibrant colors and rich smells drenching the air.
yeah ...well Classicism and Romanticism...depends on a taste, I can well enough imagine walking through meadows listening to Mozart.
you should listen to Symphony no. 6 you'll find evidence a troubled Tchaikovsky (some say it was his own suicide note) except perhaps in the second movement which is more cheerful contrasting the 1st and 3rd movement

Why do people care to much about whether or not Tchaikovsky was gay? Does it really matter now?
I would also ask if did it ever matter? I think people who loved his music didn't ever cared.
Krystsina M Forgive me for being rude, but one does not simply decide "Oh, I'll just be straight." because of culture.
Krystsina M
Well said Krystsina!! A true genius. That's all that matters. Russia should be proud to be 'coming out' against the rampant homosexual agenda.
First of all HE WAs GAY
Second, that matters cause that influenced all his life (thanks to the glorious russian culture! -_-).
Just listen to the Symphony 6 and tell me if it's a symphony or a requiem.
He hated his life because he couldn't love who wanted, that's all.
Some people are gay, get over it.

Tchaikovsky...possibly the most "Russian" out of all the Russian composers.
and in my opinion, the best of them all.
That's because he's the most famous Russian composer. It's not him that was influenced by the "Russian classical music". It's the Russian classical music that was influenced by him. When we think of that kind of music, we just expect it to sound similar to Tchaikovsky's compositions.
Certainly, I think his symphonies 5 and 6 are preeminent in emotional power....only Beethoven's 9th comes close.
To be honest, I have heard some of these movements, and they are so beautiful. Very Russian. I still love Rachmaninov though.
I entirely agree!
sophia88two After all these years Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No.2 still brings tears of joy to my eyes. But you can definitely hear Tchaikovsky's powerful influence in his work.

Yes i prefer the Russian Romantic style to the frigid German style. Tchaikovsky was the best.
I see a fellow follower of the same path as Juan Serrano.
Tchaikovsky is remembered for the beauty of his works, some of which are among the most popular pieces of music in the classical repertoire.

Tchaikovsky more modern sounding than Mozart, and was of the romantic era. I don’t think his depression mattered to his composing, or rather he poured his heart out in his music and sought happiness and fulfillment in the magical world of music.

Hey you. Yes, you. You're probably scrolling through the comments, like I am, reading all these motivational comments. If you are reading this at night, you should get some sleep, and don't stress about everything going on in the world, or what you are going through. Don't dwell on things from the past, don't stress on your future. Just live your life, because you only get one. Do whatever makes you happy, not what other people want from you. For me, I'm gonna wake up tomorrow morning, hit the gym, and cherish life for the amazing blessing that it is. I hope you do the same and have an amazing day as well!
It is impossible today. But maybe it will learn something. May we become better people, maybe the idea of humanism will be revived.
Jesus is the Way, my friend.

Another salty and triggered Ukrainian. 😂
✅ Wishful thinking much? Some of Tchaikovsky’s distant roots trace back to the modern-day “Ukraine” but at that time “Ukraine” simply did not exist. Those territories were the integral part of Russia and were called Malorossiya (Little Russia or Russia Minor).
✅ His mother was born and raised in Saint Petersburg (Great Russia) and was of mixed French-Russian descent.
✅ His father was born and raised in the Vyatka Governorate (Great Russia) in a family of Great Russian(Russian) and Little Russian(“Ukrainian”) descent. His father’s mom was Russian.
✅ Tchaikovsky, just like his father, was born and raised near the Urals in the heart of Russia, in the remote industrial Russian province, far away from Little Russia (modern-day so called “Ukraine”).
✅ Чайка or tchaika means seagull in Russian. It’s that simple.
✅ Descendants of Cossacks live in Russia - Don, Kuban and Ural. They don’t live in the modern-day “Ukraine”.

If only for the fact that I'm not alone in enjoying this music when I'm from a totally different generation and social background.
These symphonies are uplifting, inspiring and so relaxing all at the same time. I live for this music!
I'm 16 years old and I listen since I was 13,I wanted soo much that more teenagers would listen to this than...that weird shit that is going on MTV.
