If the state 'gives' 100 million to education. Then gets 25 million from the lottery.. it doesn't mean 125 million to the schools. But they give 25 million to the school fund.. then remove 25 million of the original budget and it goes back into the state coffers ... shell game they play with money. Tricky bunch they are...

Its ridiculous that collective bargaining is so one sided. Do private sector employees get 80% to 100% of salary with little or no contribution from the employee. Taxpayers need to force this issue to reduce these unethical pensions or let them go broke.

Born in Illinois and now 57. Property taxes is the biggest driver for me looking to move elsewhere. I'm done with the awful state so much so that I'm willing to move to a state with even colder weather in Wyoming. The dense population, boring landscape and annoying hummid summers also add to the hatred. This place is becoming as bad as California only without the beautiful scenery.

I'm not even considering Illinois , because of property taxes. $9000 for a 400k home is totally insane. You must have had all the illegals , and homeless voting to raise property taxes every chance they get.

@@troyb.4101 So while you won't find me praising Illinois, as a life long 58 year resident I will give some unbiased as possiable obersevations. I am in a suburb about 50 miles south of Chicago not to far from Naperville, Plainfield and Shorewood and will say there is a night an day difference between the towns and Chicago. Here, crime is low, people take care of their homes and yards and you feel safe. Can't speak for the evey other town and city outside of Chicago but from my obsevations, they are all pretty similar. Yes, Rockford, Aurora has their bad side but it's still nothing like South Chicago. And during the summer when the grass turns green and the trees and flowers grow, it actually becomes quite pretty. Years ago my wife and eye were scoping Colorado, Arizona, Nevada and Wyoming for a place to move to and have to say while the mountain views are pretty, towns like Pueblo look like dirt dust bowls let alone Arizona and the others in many locations. Maybe I'm biased but green thick grass, lilac trees and other native midwest lanscape is just tons more appealing to me. The other offset I see to high property taxes, and this may sound socialy unacceptable, is it kind of prices out the undesirables. To me Illinios is becoming a place only the financially well off can live and that has some benifits depending on how you view it. You also don;t have the huge homeless setting up tents in front of store fronts or sections of towns like you do in Seattle, LA and San Fransico. The colder winter has a role but towns like I live, the mayor and police won't tolerate it. Also, while politics in Chicago tend to be more liberal, outside of Chicago it becomes more conservative which I like. This is one of the many reasons the vast majority of Illinois wants Chicago out and to be on it's own.

@@24hourgmtchannel64 I did look at the prices in Illinois , the places look great but the taxes would be the negative. I pay about $130 a month in property taxes here. I own my 55 acres outright. If Illinois was to declare bankruptcy on on it's debts and lower the taxes people would move there. No doubt in my mind. There is now way to justify those high property taxes.. What I saw was 9k in taxes on a 400k place. I only wish states would lower property taxes.

Even if you pay off your property you still have a huge monthly payment. It's almost time to leave the USA for another country.. My SSI check is only $1560 a month. WTF is wrong with these states. They say it's the pay, but if you consider that the US average teacher gets paid the equivalent of $73K and excellent benefits, if extrapolated for 12 months, (the US educational system works on a 9 month system).
Teachers are giving up because the teaching profession has changed. Students are unruly and the laws are against teachers exerting authoritative actions.
Children since the 70"s and especially from the 80's when a "traditional household of a father and mother with traditional values", became more and more unattainable, and became "Latchkey Kids". They came home to an empty home because both parents had to work to "make it" for the "American Dream".
Children need adults as role models to form their social values. This was lost to 60% to 75% of US children. They came home after school and unlocked the door to home and then went out to "play and associated with others". Or, they stayed home and relied on technology: TV via antenna, then Cable TV, Air Conditioning (lessening reasons to go out), and eventually... computer, internet, video games, etc...
Less advantaged children associated with others in their economic realm. This led to activities to occupy their idle time. Bad things eventually evolved from this. Some things became “Cool to be Bad”.
It's been over 50 years of this now.
Children have grown up with little to no discipline, little social values, and most importantly less dreams and opportunity for success of the "American Dream".
Value of educational attainment declined and the value of a post-high school degree vastly declined when College Loans became widespread and easily obtained. This became more pronounced as "Grade-flation" became the norm. Yale professors have stated "Grade-flation" has gotten out of control when over 78% of students get an "A" in their classes.
Easy college money has lessened the value of a college degree. This has led to many college graduates with depressed earning capabilities after graduation. College loans have depressed the young to get a start on the path to the "American Dream". Most were saddled with college loan payments without the ability to pay them back, less the opportunity to pay them back and still obtain “the American Dream”.
It all goes back to the early childhood educational disconnect and the "Latch-Key" result.
The young today, are without discipline, guidance, values, dreams of attainment, and respect for authority.
How can teachers teach with present day children not only lacking two parents working, but a single parent, and/or no stable home to go home to?
Money for teachers will not fix it. This is a societal problem.

The TRS pension receives 9 percent off the top of every educators pay check to fund their own pension.. Since the 1960's when Mike Madigan passed the law to Constitutionally protect the pension the state has been borrowing this money without the teachers permission. Marijuana sales were made legal to fund pensions. What percentage of the weed money is being used to fund state pensions?

Teachers did not contribute to my retirement income. Why do Illinois citizens have to pay the pensions of teachers? Why are they so special? True they have a hard job but so do others whose jobs are essential to society working. Lawmakers make some laws that are fair to all who live still in Illinois. Take that weed money and lottery money and use it instead of spending it on illegals and sanctuary cities like Chicago. IMRF has a pension for some teachers who paid into it. Teachers in unions should do the same.

The problem was created when the State failed to pay their portion for mearly 40 years to fund their pet projects without raising taxes so they could keep their “jobs”! The state kept on under funding the retirement funds. Kicking the can down the road for years for future members to deal with. Causing a funding disaster at a future date. Under fund a pension system - it compounds the problem that gets worst and worst in a short time. Just shorting the fund by say $10,000 it doesn't take many years for that 'small amount' to balloon to $100,000... then millions.

  • @jdailey4063
    @jdailey4063 Год назад

It's a multifaceted problem. First of all, state employees pay in 8 to 10 percent of their wages into the pension system. Second the legislature for almost 2 decades funneled money from the states contribution to special projects and programs during some of the most bullish market conditions where the most investment bang for buck could have been made. Then markets crashed in 08' creating huge investment shortfalls exacerbating the the funding problem. Thirdly, since 08' high frequency trading algorithmic computing companies have been front running all large institutional trades effectively skimming billions of investment returns. I get the outrage, but it's not the pensioners fault. They've been dutifully paying 9 percent on average every paycheck. It's the legislators for misappropriating funds and not reining in market fraud.

You going to pin it on less people until they get forced out too. You will be stuck with your high taxes and not enough people to help you pay them . Texas just lowered their real estate tax as on all there homeowners and they have no state taxes . Another thing is they don’t have lotteries to help there schools . Because of this they are the fastest growing State of all States . Big corporations are leaving California to move there . Take a lesson from them !
