    (“Capo Hack” tuning using clamp-on capo on strings 1 through 5 on fret 4)
    Intro [G] [Gadd2] [C] [G] [Gadd2] [C] [G] [Gadd2] [C] [G] [Gadd2] [C]
    I [G] saw her today at the re- [C] ception
    A [G] glass of wine in her [C] hand
    I [G] knew she would meet her con- [C] nection
    At her [G] feet was her footloose [C] man
    No, you [G] can't always get what you [C] want
    You [G] can't always get what you [C] want
    You [G] can't always get what you [C] want
    But if you [A] try sometime [C] you might find
    You get what you [G] need
    So I went [G] down to the demon- [C] stration
    To get [G] my fair share of [C] abuse
    Singing, [G] "We're gonna vent our frus- [C] tration
    If we [G] don't we're gonna blow a fifty-amp [C] fuse"
    You [G] can't always get what you [C] want
    You [G] can't always get what you [C] want
    You [G] can't always get what you [C] want
    But if you [A] try sometime [C] you might find
    You get what you [G] need [G7] [C] [G7] [C]
    I [G] saw her today at the re- [C] ception
    In her [G] glass was a bleeding [C] man
    She was [G] practiced at the art of de- [C] ception
    Well, I could [G] tell by her blood-stained [C] hands
    You [G] can't always get what you [C] want
    You [G] can't always get what you [C] want
    You [G] can't always get what you [C] want
    But if you [A] try sometime [C] you just might find
    You get what you [G] need [G7] [C]
    You [G] can't always get what you [C] want
    You [G] can't always get what you [C] want
    You [G] can't always get what you [C] want
    But if you [A] try sometime [C] you just might find
    You get what you [G] need [G7] [C]
    [C] You get what you [G] need [G7] [C]
    [C] You get what you [G] need [G7] [C]
    [C] You get what you [G] need {Gadd2]

    I think that capot is actually designed to do exactly what you've done with it but you should put it on from the other side (Bass Side) If you look at it you'll see the rubber is too short to span all strings and if you put it on from the Bass side it's designed to pass over string 6 without touching it. I have the same one, it's a Shubb C8b. They also make another (C7b) which can be used to capot 5-4-3 or 2-3-4.

    • @campfire_guitar_lessons
      @campfire_guitar_lessons  3 года назад +1

      Thanks ruf. I know. If you look at my first capo hack video (For What it’s Worth) I used it the way you suggested and explained how others could achieve it without a special capo by applying from the treble side. Funny thing is, it works fine either way, AND, if you ever have to play an E minor chord it is impossible to do with the Shubb 5 string capo installed as you suggest. So, to avoid confusion for first time viewers, I apply it from the treble side.

    I believe on the album, Keith did it in Open E and live he does it in Open G, with a capo. Mick has played it in standard tuning when he occasionally plays guitar. But, this approach works very well.

      It is, Yesmam, in my view. I was sternly reminded, though, that nothing is really dropped in these capo hack tunings... things are raised. Technically correct, but these hacks emulate dropped tunings. Thanks!

      @@campfire_guitar_lessons I agree. I get why they wouldn’t be. I write in enough dropped tunings in fact I’m about to try double d (lulz) so if it goes up oh well that’s even better, more styles to play in. I’m gonna try this later as well as do it and then tune low e to a D so it can be played like a dropped. Prob won’t sound too good unless I’m playing an actual d chord. I’ll try drop and double like this. Thanks again, friend!

    • @campfire_guitar_lessons
      @campfire_guitar_lessons  3 года назад +1

      Appreciate the perspective, but that only matters if you are playing along with the source recording. There are no absolutes with respect to what key a song is... it is all relative. Some artists play their songs in different keys over the years, especially as they age and their voice range diminishes. The whole point of using a capo is to allow the guitarist to modify the key to their liking. I would bet that least half of my RUclips lessons are in a key that differs from the original.

      @ Mike Kelly ~ You’re right. I get that, I do. I’ve watched several of your “hack” vids and enjoy them. As a 55 year pro-
      fessional guitar player and teacher I’ve learned a few capo tricks from you, so please accept my apology for a hasty
      and poorly thought out reply. Up here North of Boston, there’s a great organization called Blues For Veterans, which
      I have been working with since 2013. Music is one true thing that can bring people together and can soothe the soul
      and the body, as you obviously know. Guitars For Vets is a wonderful thing and we need to do all we can for the real
      heroes in our midst. You know, it’s funny - When I was a kid, we all thought using a capo was “cheating.” We never saw
      any of our favorite bands use them but they obviously did, at least on record. So we just played tons of barre chords.
      Easy! It wasn’t until I began teaching (20+ yrs ago) that I realized how much of the newer folk-based and Americana
      music is often capo-oriented. So, a new tool in my tool box, if you will. Now I love what a capo does for the playing and
      sound of guitars. Keep up the good work, and thank you for your service.

    • @campfire_guitar_lessons
      @campfire_guitar_lessons  3 года назад

      @@larrypower8659 awesome reply Larry! I started using these hacks in the mid-90s, when I was doing lots of alternate tunings. It was so much easier to slap on a capo or partial capo to create new voicings.
