Why the Avs Can't Do With Nichushkin What the Flyers Did With Johansen

- The Philadelphia Flyers have started the process of terminating the contract of Ryan Johansen, the player they acquired from the Colorado Avalanche at last years trade deadline who never played a second for the Flyers. So they Flyers are moving on from Johansen due to his refusal to play. There's a lot of talk out there about why the Colorado Avalanche can't do the same with Val Nichushkin. We discuss.
We also talk about players we don't particularly like or root for, if we would start rooting for them if they came to play for the Avs.

Low key I love Brad Marchand. He plays such a perfect heel but hes the nicest guy ever off the ice
I think the player assistance program is sort of the NHL version of FMLA. Basically, you can't get fired for needing time away. I think when he is reinstated, that sets him back to regular status and any breach can be used as a reason to terminate.
Regarding 'hatred' I save that for IS and such ppl. I have to say Matt Cooke- I felt just utter disgust for that guy on a level skyhigh over everybody else.
After that Marchy licking stuff I also felt a healthy portion of discontent in that direction. Truckloads of players one dislike just because they repr the
chosen opposition to dislike etc. I am too old for 'hatred' regarding sports
I don’t mind Marchy lol
One little detail to add to the Johansen conversation. The Flyers likely aren't getting out of it this easy. RyJo has the right to file a grievance through the PA and that grievance will likely succeed. the result of that process will likely end up being a negotiated settlement (remember Evander Kane in San Jose?). So, the Flyers/Preds will end up having to pay him a good chunk of that remaining 8 mil over some time frame, and that settlement will be attached to their salary cap hit.
Any penalties are just on Philly's head
Nashville weren't the ones that fucked Johansen over
Yeah it’s messy all around
If you know that, the flyers know that too, and have already accepted it
Why would he have grounds to file a grievance? If you suck at hockey you get sent down. You don’t get to cry about it bc your name is Ryan Johansson 😂😂😂🤡🤡🤡
@@richardtherichard26 his grounds to file a grievance are that his contract is guaranteed and he has not violated the terms of it. almost every contract that gets terminated is grieved and results in some form of a settlement.
I have Preds goggles on. You started in the right end. It is not like Johansen said 'I refuse to play for Torts period'
Johansen claimed after being traded from Avs that 'he has a serious hip injury that needs surgery'. So the center of the dispute is there.
GM Briere after much to and fro disputes Johansen's actual injury after both Flyers med staff and 3.party med staff have been involved.
Flyers as an organisation claims that Johansen is in another physical state than Johansen claims to be, and as such Johansen
has mislead them regarding his physical status which implies they can put him on unconditional waivers and terminate his contract.
Johansen naturally disputes this and the PA will most certainly be involved etc. That is where this case is now
It’s just nasty and shouldn’t have gotten this far
Bennington
Agree
Great show guys!!
Your a great comfort on my commute to work😁😁
I do not understand this "program" Nichushkin is in. And everyone is just so tight lipped about it. But to be honest I am not seeing any "therapy". I see him over in Russia living it up while we are back here dealing with cap issues that he created.
And again, simply not skating is not a punishment. Where is the rehab??...
But my issue is his 2 incidents were not the same thing.
And being on a level 3 at my job is termination. I have seen guys get traded for less, why is he any different??
I said it before and I will continue to say it.
Bennington is a player that I just won't cheer for. Even if Jesus facilitated trade. I'm not doing it😂😂
2. Marchand. He's such a tiny twerp.
3. Evander Kane. I'm not even going to waste the thumb energy to type out why regarding him..ugh...
Have a great weekend LOA😁😁
Duchene for sure. Bertuzzi, even though its not directly his fault.
Binnington could go either way. I could see a quiet version of him, like late last season, being okay. The other version still exists though, and that version would bug me
Agree with the 3
How is decking someone from behind in the back of the head not his fault? Nobody but bertuzi did that, doesn't matter if Crawford told him anything, ultimately he is the one who decided to do it, no excuses
@@UnquenchableHatred different players.... you can't be for real with this
Toronto. Montreal, Boston, ny and staying up till 11pm to watch hockey games creates east coast bias. A majority of your phwa reside on the east coast and have 6-8 games starting at 7pm local time but only have 1-4 starting at a decent time. You miss out on so much with the late start times
East coast thing absolutely exists, i just dont think its the media. The east coast fans dont get to watch many west coast games, and they only see the west teams a few times a year. Totally caused by the nhl and 10pm est starts. Need to get the start times earlier
Zegras and McDavid come to mind. Id go full sharks if mcdavid came here
i said this on one of the other podcast , the PAP needs to have a clause in it , u cant just keep letting a player re offend and let that team and the nhl suffer its not a good look , how many chances did theo fleury get , when he went threw his stuff i thought there was 6 levels to the program still think there was because i remember he was the only player to hit level 4 ,at one point a team should be able to terminate a contract idk why these things aint baked in u get 3 strikes
Tom Wilson would be up there for me... I have no respect for players that show a consistent intent to injure
The Avs need a pest a la Claude Lemieux, Corey Perry, Marchand, Kadri, or Bennett. They make a long boring regular season tolerable & bring some spice & flavor in the playoffs. RyJo exemplifies McFarland’s tenure as a GM.
Evander Kane, Pat Maroon, Jamie Benn:
Assholes. Pardon my French.
Binnington:
Used to think that guy was just putting on a show, but over time, obvious he's just childish.
You stole my list
Kyle Sullivan doesn’t get it, does he? The point of the program is that the league doesn’t want to show bad example and turn its back on people who are sick.
It is interesting that how the geolocation affects these. Talking of Ovechkin there in North America and it didn't even cross your mind that one reason people hates Ovechkin is political. For _A LOT_ of European NHL fans Ovechkin is the #1 on that list and that's not even close. Yeah absolutely he is one of the best X players in NHL history etc. but the political views he has is simply too much for tons of people
Personally I don't hate Ovechkin like that. He has his political views and he has a right to have them.
Hit the nail on the head. Honestly, there are very few hockey players who actively participated in war propaganda like he did already in 2013. For all I care, he could score all the goals in the world, he will never be anything but a puppet who abused his sports fame. Used to love him early as a player, when he scored on his back etc., all gone. Imagine if Muhammad Ali advocated for the Vietnam War...
see my whole thing is with expansion is they shouldnt get to cherry pick from other teams that was just insane for vegas and seattle so stupid , they should of got all the first round picks thats its then they could trade away the players sign free agents etc and if they chose to roster that whole team of first round picks there cap would be lowered alot so they couldnt just trade away at deadline if they were doing good ,entry level times 24 players is 21 million so they would get a cap of 40 million if they sign 24 of those 31 draft picks room for imporovment but not enough room to just go nuts and that would stay for the 3 years , a whole team of players devolping together would prove better than a new team get to cherry pick from other teams who could only protect 7-9 was it .. that was just idiotic ,and if tat happened anyteam with a first round pick who looseing it because of this gets a bit of cap forgivness
"You can't just terminate a contract!!!"
Corey Perry says hello
That was terminated due to actions off the ice but related to the team. They didn't just wake up and say terminate Perry.
@@LockedOnAvalanche If anyone has ever had "actions off the ice but related to the team," it's Nuke
@@gablefisk-govphost817 I'm not denying that, just pointing out the Hawks terminating Perry wasn't out of the blue
@@LockedOnAvalancheand the Avs terminating nichushkin wouldn’t be out of the blue either. I’m failing to see the difference between the 2 situations
@@richardtherichard26 the league has already told the Avs they can't terminate his contract based on his suspensions or being in the program. So once he comes back they have no grounds to terminate it. Which means they can't just out of the blue terminate him.
also just make the cap 100 million already and leave it there lol
it was Nazem Kadri for me. Hated him in Toronto, never won me over in Colorado. Today if Jordan Binnington found his way to the Avalanche i would not enjoy cheering for him, Corey Perry is a close second, just for his run of Stanely Cups loses, and not because he is a rat
Perón and Stone. No thanks.
Good ones
What was Val popped for?
Hookers and blow?
No confirmation
Val needs to sign in Russia and leave us alone.
Ryan Smyth and Jerome Iginla, no joke, hated both, wasn't keen even on the Avs.
Other than that, known bigots, will never root for anyone whom doesn't think we deserve to exist. Avs jersey or no.
Oh and known sexual predators like Matthews and heavily suspected but for legal reasons won't name and will instead just say former players.
As for hot takes, cups before it took 16 wins to win, aren't as valuable R.E bragging rights wise as cups now-a-days.
Oh you won the cup back when it took playing 1 team in a best of 5? Ok that's the same as 4 rouns of best of 7.
Rumor on RyJo is that he’s claiming he’s “so injured” he can’t skate or play, but videos surfaced of him from his wedding last weekend dancing up a storm, carrying his wife on his shoulders and lifting people up, etc and they’re calling him out for lying about the severity of the injury. No idea if there is truth to that but it wouldn’t surprise me if it factors in because of the timing. Glad he’s not our problem, regardless.
