I discovered Andy a few years ago, and he blew my socks off. He's about all I listened to for 2 months. He definitely is one of the top tier musicians of our lifetimes
2 года назад+38
I remember learning to play this track for my channel. It's definitely much harder and cleaner than it seems. I decided to do it without the backing track just to see if I'm up to the task. Just like you said. A lot of work, but so worth it.
Omg that is everything I love about the guitar, how you can go from a whisper to a howling, full throated soulscream, literally within fractions of a _second._ How the guitar seduces you, tells you, _"I am yours, to sing through, cry through, rage through, love through..., _pray_ through...I am the control panel for your soul." Andy Timmons just did all of that. Beautiful.🤜💥🤛
Andy taught me to play via an Ibanez starter pack VHS in the early-mid 90s. Loved his stint with Danger Danger back then and his solo work is incredible. Love him dearly.
This is my first time hearing Andy Timmons and my first thought is; “Why did I wait so long?” I really liked how he didn’t show his hand right away, he gave us little hints but kept it melodic the whole time. The bassist’s beginning melody is just so achingly beautiful that you want to listen more and as the song goes, it just gets better and better. Wow, thank you, Michael once again.
My dad was recording an album when he lived in Dallas. Andy was at the studio and just hopped in for a song. The cd of his album had Andy playing in one of his songs.
OMG, this guy!!! Totally agree with you - all is in total control and feeling!! Love the guy! Thank you for your reaction! You´re a great guitarplayer, with a beautiful PRS!! Want one!! (my woman says no...)
I’ve been lucky enough to see him play live 3 times. Twice at the Granada Theater in Dallas Texas 6’ from the stage. Talked to him before one of those shows. He’s super nice and friendly and humble. Easily one of the best musicians on the planet.
Andy is part of my Holy Trinity of modern guitar heroes for me. I love all the players I grew up learning from: Page, Hendrix, Lindsey Buckingham, Steve Lukather, John Sykes and the mighty Gary Moore. But when it comes to who I really admire and strive to learn from these days, It's Andy Timmons, Nick Johnston and Petrucci. Andy is a magic player. "The Prayer, The Answer", "That Day Came", and even the demo video for his new Halo pedal is soooo powerful. I always wondered why certain players used the same guitar all the time when I rotated 10-15. Andy almost always has his sig Ibanez with the pickguard broken on the lower horn. When I got a PRS594, suddenly the rest of my guitars are really lonely, I get it. Mine's a Semi-Hollow SingleCut. I really like your DC, I almost got one of those instead.
I’ve followed Andy for years, he is great! Please do a deep dive in Andy Timmons playing. I and I have to say that you do make great videos man, I learn something every time! 🤗
This is also the best live recording of Electric Gypsy...His tone is absolutely monstrous...Also in the few sections that he leaves free for a bit of improv he has the best note selection in this performance...That outside note is a lick he uses in Electric Gypsy a fair bit.
Mesa/Boogie is usually thought of as high gain, metal amps, but actually they have an entire line of amazing, high-end amps. From Vox, Fender, Marshall, Dumble, etc., they have something for everyone. My main gigging amp is a Mesa Electra Dyne. It sounds so incredible; I love it. The only thing is that is soooooooo heavy, and soooooooo LOUD!
He is also from Texas. The guitar players from that state all seem to share a root in tone and style, though Andy does things with it that neither of the other 2 have explored.
Dude that's crazy i just posted a video of Corey Wong and Sierra Hull's tour rehearsal on the reaction page yesterday. Even the rehearsal was crazy I cant imagine the actual concert.
God damn bud. Seeing you back at it with such unabashed enthusiasm has been so refreshing. As artists, we always have to deal with the highs and lows. Some days, we have inspiration in abundance. Others, we forget what inspiration even felt like. But I think I can speak for all of us in this. Seeing a fellow artist in the midst of a personal renaissance? It's just an absolute pleasure to witness. Makes me feel all warm n fuzzy inside. As a dude, this makes me uncomfortable. Gonna need you to quit it.
I knew of Andy from the Danger Danger in my high school days. I also saw him play some guitar shows in Tampa/Clearwater, FL. I actually have a VHS tape with Timmons & Mike Petrucci jamming. Anyways, I feel in the crowd of big name guitarists, Timmons is SO underrated.
You mentioned that it’s a killer single coil sound. It’s in fact a DiMarzio dual rail cruiser humbucker in single coil size. I put one in my home made tele. Love it. I’m lucky to live not far from Andy and get to see him locally often. One gig I saw a couple of years back was a total Hendrix only gig. It was something else.
I saw AT at a small club with about 150 people in the crowd a few years ago. Complete mastery. I don’t think there is a more complete player. I chatted with him before he went on. Friendly and humble. Just awesome.
Mike Dane is the bass player and hes amazing. Hes also a great guy to boot. Andy and Mike have been playing together for decades and they play off each other to perfection.
Really got into Andy in the last few years. Seems like a genuinely awesome dude. Love his vid with Dan and Mick on TPS. Andy kills on this but the Bass player has this song GLUED TIGHT with the drummer
Remember- Andy is the guy that made Dan from That Pedal Show cry... he's made me cry in frustration for years now trying to get that tone and touch... and it's MOSTLY touch- I have all his gear and only just scratch the surface of his great tone... amazing single coil tone through non-single coil pickups! The Treble bleed mod helps a lot- but Andy's ear for tone is unsurpassed.
Andy Timmons and joe Satriani have been my go to inspiration for playing and listening since I was like 12 years old (28 now). Still my favorite players. Throw Chris buck in the mix and I don’t need to listen to anyone else play guitar.
Awesome! Thank you for picking my suggestion! This song by Andy has become one of my favorite songs of all time. That main melodic opening riff is just beautiful and has been on repeat in my head ever since I first heard this song. Love seeing your reactions to his playing here, especially when he goes on his explosive runs and his mesmerizing melodical phrasing. Such a unique and masterful guitarist, indeed! Also, you were close with pronouncing my name, haha. It is Hungarian, and it is pronounced "Yo-shjef", combining the 'sh' and 'j' into one letter sound. It's kind weird and unique, but I've become fond of it over time actually. But again, thank you for choosing my suggestion! If you decide to do a deep dive into Andy, I look forward to it very much! Cheers!
Me and his son are working an album rn🤘🏼the connections we get through his dad and how he helps up become better musicians is incredible. Great guy and great guitarist, can’t go wrong with Andy
YES! This piece took me forever to learn the tapped harmonics and that first fast lick, his phrasing is just unreal. Cry for you is another killer track by him.
Best thing is the at+ pedal gives you exactly he’s overdrive tone its so sublime. That and the melodical feeling he has is breathtaking. You should take a look at cry for you live its he’s masterpiece in my opinion.
regarding that Bb note, andy was probably thinking BmM7 (melodic minor) to give a subtle tension or you can also think Bb as part of the A altered scale and resolving to the tonic (V to I).
No, when is tapping the harmonics, there is a lot of gain coming from his @ signature pedal which is dialed in for his bridge humbucker. The amps (2) are completely set up clean without distortion. The reason: Andy wants the note to be clear and articulate, so he needs the amps to be clean and the distortion pedal for the sustain and the harmonics. Is it super high gain, no. But if you have ever tried the @ pedal, there is a lot of gain even at it's lowest settings. The pedal was designed for that purpose: a clear and articulate note, but with higher gain. Andy also has a treble bleed circuit in his signature Ibanez for that purpose. That all combined, gives a very clear and articulate note, even at high gain.
Hey Mike I believe those are Seymour Duncan hot rails which are mine humbuckers in that guitar I have the same kind of pickups in my fender Stratocaster they are awesome.
Andy changed this song from time to time to keep it more interesting for himself...but every version is always a great state of the art of electric guitar playing.
@ 18:24 Soooo sooo dirty! To have the ear to hear that in the middle of the blistering runs. Incredible. This is one of the few greats that has no limits.
Only just now discovered you Michael, seeing you discuss Thrill is Gone by Kingfish. I'm a massive Andy Timmons fan, but I know shit about the formalities of music. To me your musical dissections are like explaining magic with an alien alphabet. Mesmerizing. Keep it going!
MELODY! I started playing guitar by picking out MELODIES of tv show theme songs..... i have ALWAYS loved great melodies (chills as a young boy to mom playing Fur Elise)... you're right, AT is a MASTER at melodies and the conviction with which he plays them.... this is just pure Eargasm....... thanks for the first-pass analysis, MP!!
Check out Andy Timmons Truefire course, 30 Electric Expressions. He goes over this tune in the course. Not the whole song but the opening parts. A lot of great licks in the course.
Just stumbled across this, and it’s fantastic to see you run through that video (recorded on an iPhone 6s, somehow..). Andy Timmons puts on a masterclass in his shows. I’m usually not one to record at concerts, but in that situation I just had to. I have a few other videos from that night uploaded if you’d like to do a similar react video to those. If you want the originals, just let me know. Cheers!
Thank Michael (and everybody here!) for the great vibes!! Much appreciated ❤🔥❤
Thank you for bringing so much joy into the world with your phenomenal music.
Your the goat Andy, Brazil loves you!
I'm so hooked on your Theme from a Perfect World album right now. So good.
This literally brought me to tears bro. You play the most beautiful guitar solos ive ever heard in my life! Thank you so much!!
Thank you Andy for your guitar experience! I can’t stop listening.
I discovered Andy a few years ago, and he blew my socks off. He's about all I listened to for 2 months. He definitely is one of the top tier musicians of our lifetimes

Yes sir indeed!!
One word always stands out to me describing Timmons is "Dynamic". From soft phrasing to full on face melting shred.
Maybe it's just me but doesn't the tone and much of the shredding remind you of Erick Johnson? Don't get on me too hard...I'm deaf in my left ear.
Omg that is everything I love about the guitar, how you can go from a whisper to a howling, full throated soulscream, literally within fractions of a _second._
How the guitar seduces you, tells you, _"I am yours, to sing through, cry through, rage through, love through..., _pray_ through...I am the control panel for your soul."
Andy Timmons just did all of that. Beautiful.🤜💥🤛
I will never be at his level but it doesn't stop me from trying. The guitar is magical!
That is very well expressed! So true.
Andy taught me to play via an Ibanez starter pack VHS in the early-mid 90s. Loved his stint with Danger Danger back then and his solo work is incredible. Love him dearly.

I’ve never heard this before. Andy’s playing brought tears to my eyes. Wow! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
By far my favorite guitar player on the planet. Love this guy to death, such a kind soul and amazingly inspirational player. THE BEST.!!
Mike Dane is the incredible bass player. You should dive into all his music. He is brilliant!!!
He reminds me of the drummer for the Foo Fighters.
Played with him for years. Solid bassist
Mike Daane
I'm only 4 and a half minutes in but that bass solo was the most beautiful thing I've ever heard in my life.
My dad was recording an album when he lived in Dallas. Andy was at the studio and just hopped in for a song. The cd of his album had Andy playing in one of his songs.
OMG, this guy!!! Totally agree with you - all is in total control and feeling!! Love the guy!

again, Andy is best guitarist in the world!
I really like Andy in Simon Phillips’ Protocol.
love andy timmons ive followed him for years. take a look at andy timmons CRY FOR YOU LIVE

Search for the Timmons/Eric Gales Little Wing video Wow
Just heard Andy Timmons doing A Day in the Life. First time and I was super impressed. Now you’re featuring him. Awesome
This is also the best live recording of Electric Gypsy...His tone is absolutely monstrous...Also in the few sections that he leaves free for a bit of improv he has the best note selection in this performance...That outside note is a lick he uses in Electric Gypsy a fair bit.
Can never get enough Andy. Those Dimarzio Cruisers are technically humbuckers btw!
Cool shirt, bro! Andy Timmons is absolutely one of the best.
Andy is a great guitar player, underrated... love the sound of his Boogie amp... :)
He's not under rated at all.
He's absolutely NOT underrated.
andy is not underrated with guitar players :)
Mesa/Boogie is usually thought of as high gain, metal amps, but actually they have an entire line of amazing, high-end amps. I have been waiting for this for SO LONG!
Edit: Those are Dimarzio Cruisers, they are humbuckers in a strat pickup size.
Timmons sounds like a cross between SRV and Eric Johnson.
He is also from Texas. The guitar players from that state all seem to share a root in tone and style, though Andy does things with it that neither of the other 2 have explored.
My favorite version I have seen/heard of this song....I love how you break it down...such a beautiful , soulfully played song....thanks man!
Dude that's crazy i just posted a video of Corey Wong and Sierra Hull's tour rehearsal on the reaction page yesterday. Even the rehearsal was crazy I cant imagine the actual concert.

I've been waiting to see Andy Timmons on your channel forever. Great video! "Cry For You" and "On Your Way Sweet Soul" are also very killer
Andy, the master of ultimate tone!
None better!
Killer! His album Resolution floors me every time.

He could play nursery rhymes and blow me away.... love his touch and tone.

Check out Andy with Martim Miller band playing this tune...Such a feel player...
Oh yes, Mr Timmons...I LOVE this man's music and playing so much!
YES! This piece took me forever to learn the tapped harmonics and that first fast lick, his phrasing is just unreal. Cry for you is another killer track by him.
Hai! Bro Michael....can you please react to mr Alip Ba Ta fingerstail cover of System of Down"Toxic city" ,so talented
Best thing is the at+ pedal gives you exactly he’s overdrive tone its so sublime.
That and the melodical feeling he has is breathtaking.
You should take a look at cry for you live its he’s masterpiece in my opinion.
Andy's melodic construction and phrasing is some of finest. Really nice analysis Michael. Thanks!!
13:33 MR MICHAEL, that's my exact reaction every time I listen to this wonderful tune!
regarding that Bb note, andy was probably thinking BmM7 (melodic minor) to give a subtle tension or you can also think Bb as part of the A altered scale and resolving to the tonic (V to I).
Damn, it's like he tripped a switch and went into Eric Johnson mode for a few bars..... then into 80s shred ..... guy has a wide ranging arsenal.
No, when is tapping the harmonics, there is a lot of gain coming from his @ signature pedal which is dialed in for his bridge humbucker. The amps (2) are completely set up clean without distortion. 17 year old me spent hours trying to figure out Puppet Show with a peavey bandit amp and no delay pedal. 49 year old me is still blown away by it
Hey Mike I believe those are Seymour Duncan hot rails which are mine humbuckers in that guitar I have the same kind of pickups in my fender Stratocaster they are awesome.
Mark Rebillet at Red Rocks in October!
OMG
@@Guitargate 2nd row... come on out MP
This song played on my spotify discovery weekly about a month ago and BLEW MY MIND! Its awesome to see Andy getting some recognition on your channel!
Mike Dane is the bass player. Used to see Andy in Dallas at Blue Cat Blues back in the mid 90s.
Bradly Cooper has a guitar channel? I guess that Limitless drug really works.
Andy changed this song from time to time to keep it more interesting for himself...but every version is always a great state of the art of electric guitar playing.
Well friends, that's how you get a signature guitar...and pedal...(etc. et al(
I believe I remember Andy saying those are actually humbuckers.
Yes the A# was on purpose. He talks about it in his Guitar Experience Song of the Month lesson.
i got this dean icon for 25 bucks at goodwill, just plugged it in the ohter day. awesome, has a bolt for a bridge
I have to ask: who is your favourite players? Is Timmons one of them? I love Winterland from him
Man I’d Love to go to NAMM one day. That’s a LOT of sick guitarist to be on stage at one time.
One of the most underrated guitarist out there... Ghost of You destroys... absolutely destroys
Great video. I've always loved this song and Andy is a beast but I have to say the bass player stole the show with that intro solo.
I love the bass solo... Why do I hear Grease - The One That I Want and The Beatles - Blackbird.
I put this performance on repeat, it helps me sleep. The bass solo in the beginning is so soothing😍
You know.. one thing I wish react vids like these do is listen to the song first then break it down.. so annoying to just pause every now and then..
To me he is a very musical player who can shred the shit out of his rig, but has a lot of restraint. Great channel btw.
Andy's tone on this song is up there as the best I've ever heard
That flat6 at around 14:50 I guarantee was intentional. I've never heard him play a bad note.
Mike, please do "cry for you" by Andy Timmons it is incredible!
The best bass players understand harmony. The average ones just vamp off the root.
@ 18:24 Soooo sooo dirty! To have the ear to hear that in the middle of the blistering runs. Incredible. This is one of the few greats that has no limits.
Ridiculously good guitar playing. Mix of melodic playing and shred. So good!
Ridiculously good.
The run that got me into Timmons: ruclips.net/video/jv5_ZjOq2rw/видео.html Glorious 👌🏻
I got his pickup set put into my strat because of his video right here haha. They’re great
PLEEEASEE MORE ANDY TIMMONS
I didn't know Bradley Cooper played guitar?
i am trying to learn this song for a long time now. and struggling with tap harmonic for over a year now😔
Haha so true about guitar players know the neck the least in the band!
Andy teaches the song: ruclips.net/video/ipJzHM4s_mg/видео.html
Top quality sound ,every time ,one of the best.
He’s so goddamn good. Really jacks you up.
Andy demos!!
Andy is one of my favorite players to listen to. He’s soooo good
Awesome to see you doing a Andy video...This is a great song..
The fist pump at around 13:45 is why mikes the man n music is the magic
great techer! Andy Timmons, one of the greats of our time
MELODY!
