Alright so 1) There was a second mission in this recording. That will be in the next episode; I thought what happened in the first one was enough to be it's own episode entirely. 2) During editing I catch all the stupid mistakes I make while recording. I am aware of just how poorly I ran this mission as well as several others. Despite being told otherwise, I feel being this bad at a game many of you enjoy directly harms the viewing experience of these videos, no matter how well they may fit a narrative or how much editing I put into them. I will be working to stop being so shit, since I know from experience how irksome it can be to watch a personality, even one you like, fumble so ineptly. 3) Characters are one and done in this campaign. While I may give myself a reset each mission I attempt to balance this out by having any soldiers lost in the second try remain gone for good. To clarify things. I wish to cut down on my own save scumming habits. Thank you all for watching. Despite the display, I still hope you all enjoyed the video. Have a good night/morning.
I enjoyed and if you're looking for channels that do Xcom regularly featuring folks who're really good at the game, I strongly recommend Mal. His Long War 2 playthrough got me into Xcom 2 and he's currently doing a Legend run of War of the Chosen. He's very good at talking through his moves and pointing out when he's doing something risky. He's got a great community as well and they're equally good with tips and advice. I'd also recommend checking out Marbozir. He's doing his second run of War of the Chosen on Legend currently, with mods and tends to be a more aggressive player, but also good at talking through his moves. There're plenty of other people om youtube who play as well, but Mal and Marbozir are the only two I've personally watched to any great extent and who I'd recommend if you want to become a better player. As to save scumming, I reserve the right to save scum if something bullshit like getting one-shot crit-killed from full health behind full cover happens and the once-a-mission limit is one I also observe. Unless the AI blatantly cheats in Long War. Then all bets are off because that mod's hard enough as is. Hope this helps in some way. P.S. I actually wouldn't be surprised if Tear sent Prak or his masked cult to eat you after that. Maybe you could shift the blame and get him to axe ADVENT what happened? wink-wink...
Seth. This is XCOM. If everything went smoothly, there'd be no suspense, the narrative would be flat. Remember the Archon King? It got dangerously close to wiping the squad, and it indoubtedly would have if not for one thing. You know what saved your squad's asses? *You did.* Moving the right person out of the way, healing the wounded person who could not survive a devastate, making all the right decisions. You are WAY better at this game than you give yourself credit for. Not knowing you get revealed when you pick up a captive? That's not your fault, that's the game's fault for failing to communicate properly. This is why, in the first playthrough of games like X-com, I give myself the "Huh, that's a thing." reset once a mission: When something I was not aware of could happen, happens, I allow myself to reset a single time. When I didn't know cars could explode, I resat. When I didn't realize the Berzerker Queen could knock someone unconcious, I resat. When Chryssalids could fucking burrow, I resat. The only thing worthy of criticism this episode was your evac-zone placement. Everything else? That's not your fault.
"All hands, this is the Commander. It is my deepest regret to inform you that we have lost a soldier this day." "Corporal Brett 'Brick' TearOfGrace was one of the first to join the cause. He has stood by the flag of freedom since the first days it flew in defiance of ADVENT. He was one of the finest men I have ever had the pleasure, and the honour, of serving alongside, and our lives are diminished by his sacrifice in the line of duty. His dedication to the protection of this world of ours was matched only by the humour he performed his task with, and I have known very few who could be held to his standard in combat. There will never be another like him." "He died in Operation Steely Tears, the rescue of Skirmisher Pratal Mox. His efforts in protecting our allies have already earned us great favour with our allies, with Mox himself swearing vengeance on the ADVENT forces in the name of Tear, as a form of honouring his sacrifice. He died distracting the enemy forces so that Mox, Freeman, and Crimbo could escape the battlefield - paying the ultimate price to ensure the safety of his fellow troops. We will never forget him." "See you in hell, Tear. We'll send a few of the bastards down for you to play with." "Vigilo Confido. Commander, signing out."
This deserves more credit. Coming from the newer videos in the series, this comes with hindsight. And this S*** right here is as good as the resistance radio bit.
1. You used my voice pack! I feel accomplished. Kind of. 2. And you seemed to had fun with it! Yaaaay. 3. Goddammit Seth... I hoped my work will give you some fun for much, much longer... well shit.
Very well. Its just a shame - but hey, if you are going to continue using it somehow, then it was worth it. I am going to try and put more lines in it, but for now I am taking a two week break, because of my University trying to literally strangle me with deadlines and stuff. If you have any feedback, feel free to contact me, either through Twitter or Steam. Also, notifications on YT seems fucked, cause I had to see your answers manually - it did not pop up as of yet...
nah that would cheapen the effect and the dread of the difficulty. It would be better if when he gets access to SParks he makes a spark dedicated to Tear. SO its not like Tear magically revived, it would be a Tribute. Hell why not do that with others who may (probably will) Die on the way. imagine a Squad of Sparks dedicated to the dead, make a poster and call it "Fallen Spark strikes again" or somethng cheesy like that.
Nope, but He does make hilarious gameplay vids. Most notably his Shadow of Mordor or Dark souls series. If you like Sethorven then you should definitely check out his channel.
And that is why you don't bring Snipers on covert rescue ops. Generally the best thing to do is grab the prisoner, blow open a back wall with a grenade, then drop the evac point right outside the hole so you have to spend minimal time getting to the evac. Or put it right outside one of the side doors.
And so Tear, finally gaining his own voice, stood atop the highest peak, and told the Advent off. And the Advent responded; "Please shut up." And yet again, Tear was shutted uped. (finally gets a voice, gets killed in action . . . damn shame)
Seth, I know it is a little late to tell you this. But during the Prison Break, you can just group up everyone inside the complex, then mad-dash out of it into an evac zone just outside of the front doors. It's the simplest thing.
Pain is not a word that can describe how that must feel... I can't imagine what it must feel like to lose a soldier as strong and influential as Tear. RIP.
You play how you want to, but dropping the evac right outside the door, keeping the two not grabbing Mox in the base and reconcealing them after you grab Mox makes this mission a lot easier. Also picking not tripping the alarm is 100% the better option. I had a bad feeling when you decided to drop the evac on the roof, I just wasn't expecting Tear to buy the farm. Kind of really bummed about it, actually.
You don't know how much I needed a good laugh today, had a horrible day and have been having horrible luck lately, and honestly just wanted this day to end, but your videos always put a smile on my face
He made it through a full series and the beginning of another without a scratch. Tear was one tough summa-nah-bitch. Practically was immune to bullets. It took a incredibly large squad and a soldier juiced up on steroids... that was then injected with "Deus Ex Bullshit" magic and a lightsaber to take him down. Talk about goin' out like a fucking MAN
Good bye Tearofgrace, you may of fought well but your death will never be forgotten. As brothers and sisters fall, More will rise. More will come to rise and make our enemies wish they fell before our might.
And here I was wondering when I'd be seeing a new Sethorven video. Time for the RUclips Crew (& Friends) to bumble through another world-saving mission.
Let this mark the day as the day that giving a person that has been shaped to be real life person the voice pack of that person marks them for death. Idk just go along with it
I love how someone went through all the trouble of making a ToG voice pack.....and you get him killed off the first time you use it. bet he's feeling like that time was well spent after seeing this
Dont worry Seth i have been there, i remember when i lost one of my best soldier cause some random Muton got a crit from really far away, while i was on high ground and on half cover. He destroyed the cover and one shot me in a single shot. I will thank your determination, cause you didnt reset after that. Shit just got real
I have a feeling Mox would have struggled with a case of survivor's guilt after that. If he hadn't been captured, if XCOM hadn't gone to rescue him, Tear would still be alive. At least that might be what he'd regularly tell himself, avoiding eye contact with the others, steering clear of anyone he walked past, whether they're only passing by or attempting to check on him or just let him know that it wasn't his fault.
Imagine this Tear meeting the original Tear? I just did and it's so sad! Tear: Where?... What is this place?... Original Tear: A sniper? Huh... Never could have imagined... Tear: What?... What happen?... Original Tear: Well kid... With all the cards on the table, your hand turned out to be the lowest deck... Tear: Did... Did they get him out?... Original Tear: They did... Now have a seat. Barkeep! Get me a drink for this brave hero!
I personally wouldn't object to you reanimating Tear with a new body, just so we can hear more of his unique lines. I'd almost demand it if it was Gordon who got hosed. Also... consider falling back on the difficulty. If you're hoping and praying for shots to land with any kind of regularity, you're still not skilled enough to be in adequate control of the battlefield. I don't mean that even remotely as a slight, XCOM is a very very hard game to get good at and I for one wouldn't judge you regardless of whatever level you play at. I'm here to enjoy your company and enthusiasm.
I don't mean to add to the pain, but you lost Tear on a mission called 'Steely Tears'. If there was ever a time to loose him, this mission was the most befitting.
I think that’s what I like more about xcom 2, you kind of care more about what happens to the soldiers your leading in the game and therefore you feel a bit worse when they die. Xcom 2 helps with this more due to the amount of cosmetics you can give them all, making each soldier more unique in personality and design, the voice packs just help with that more
Seth you might want to turn the difficulty down because when you do the chosen strongholds trust me they do not pull ANY punches and you only get one shot at them so if you lose at a stronghold you will never get to attack it again and the chosen if any are still alive WILL show up in the final mission
“Where one falls, another will rise”, is the foreshadowing for the creation of tear 2.0, if so I am far from complaining, bring the bald guy home, as he shale be remembered in our hearts as the guy who said the advent soilders have “Dildo’s for eyes.” Welcome to commander indeed.
"You will, by the dignity of your conduct, afford occasion for posterity to say, when speaking of the glorious example you have exhibited to mankind, ‘Had this day been wanting, the world had never seen the last stage of perfection to which human nature is capable of attaining." -George Washington RIP TearofGrace Give 'em hell Commander Sethorven.
i feel ya man, it sucks when you lose such a valueable soldier, i lost my Templar, he had the highest killcount, almost never was out of comision and could kill 2-3 enemies per turn. losing him was a hard hit.
That's the bittersweet life of XCOM/Fire Emblem (Or any strategic games of this style). You can't love too much an unit, you have to love them all the same (Even that pineapple deserves "love"), because you don't know when the Grim Crit will fetch them... That will hurt.
RIP Brett Tear you daughter through hoards and defeated many alien who could do nothing to stop you now rest soldier and hopefully we will send you again farewell.
I'd just like to say thank you to Sethorven for creating Brett who is one of my favourite you tuber and I'd like to say thank you for the memorial of his character Salute to you Seth.

He died as he lived complaining about stuff being unfair
Well - I inserted 4 death lines in the voice pack.
Apparently none of them played both times Seth got TOG killed.
Shit.
Indeed it was unfair.
Also does anyone else love the fact that the mission that tear dies in is called STEELY TEARS!
