Really glad I came across your channel recently, the level of detail you give in this game but making it understandable for new players is amazing. Hope more people find your channel and subscribe!
I like that you explain your philosophy over the decisions you make rather than simply say what is BIS and optimal skill points spent. Breaking down all the core issues of a build and to fix them is definitely great. Good job :D
Wow! Greatly done. That build looks sweet. I think you definitely should also consider Blessed Aim merc, Hsarus belt + boots combo, and as it was mentioned in comments above IK gloves, boots and belt combinations. I did some d2planner modelling, as to me the best DPS setup for that build seemed a classical Deadly strike + Crushing blow setup like G-Face + Gores + Crafted bloody gloves with mana leech and 20 IAS and Might + Pride merc - it had about 80% DS and 60% CB
First off I wanted to say thank you for making this guide. I really enjoy your stuff and you and dark humility are my two favorite guide writers. I'm running this same build through HCSP right now and in a5 NM. I got a pul rune off NM forge and went to make Wisdom -- I had a 2+ increased speed, 1+ find item, 1+ battle cry helm with 3os that I trashed because I thought it would be bad for wisdom but after watching your guide I now realize I would have saved a bunch of hard skill points if I used it!!! I ended up finding a 3os 3+ iron skin which boosts my defense by quite a bit and since I needed the CBF badly I couldn't hold off for anything better. I also spec'd into grim ward for this build (at least for the time being). Since I'm only using blood crafted francisca and flying axe currently, the grim ward does an excellent job of adding more damage and doing some crowd control for me. I'm also prebuffing with Peace runeword armor and gaining a lvl 15 valk for extra protection since this is hardcore. Since this is untwinked all self found HCSP, I'm planning on making a lawbringer and something like unbending will for my a5 merc so the decrep can help with phys immunes once I'm in hell. I really enjoy the A5 merc with frenzy/taunt/iron skin paired with the valk and grim ward for keeping monsters occupied while I can snipe from a distance - but I feel like an enchant a3 merc or blessed aim a2 merc would help out with AR issues. IDK, part of it really is the fantasy aspect and I really enjoy running around the screen with a fellow barb after 20 years of playing this game with only a2 mercs. Lemme know what you think, also if there are any other tips for a very budget double throw/frenzy untwinked playthrough. I have a bunch of mid runes and other gear stashed away. I'll give you a quick rundown of my gear: lvl 53/ a5 NM: 1x blood crafted francisca 1x blood crafted flying axe wisdom in a 3+ iron skin jawbone visor 3+ warcrys/ 3% ll amy, sanders gloves, nagel ring, AR rare ring, rare belt with light and fire res, goblin toe boots, smoke runeword ghost armor, inventory = mostly life and res charms, few max dmg/ar merc: Stealth ghost armor plague bearer unique runesword bloodletter gladius ralortort 3os helm (feel like there is opportunity for better swords in runewords)
@@MacroBioBoi no worries man - will do, and I can give you an update too. Killed NM baal and just going to slog through some NM cows to farm up some gear and rubies for crafting. Appreciate it greatly.
Thanks for such detailed reasoning on your decisions 👍 Definitely looking forward to giving this a try. I was also leaning being hybrid into Frenzy for efficiency due to quantity, but don't have the time to really test things as much as I used to, so content creators such as yourself are a godsend. Cheers :)
So some comments/questions 1. Why you use a dual leech ring when you already have ML from your helm? 2. Why not skill BO naturally and rather solve the AR issue with more dex and/or Obedience second slot? The higher life possibly could well be established into a dex only barb which imho would in terms of damage be the better choice than pushing a second mastery wouldn´t it? 3. Why wisdom not in a Barb helmet? 4. Why use ravenfrost when you are already using wisdom? 5. You said yoru mercenary is not using any cold damage but he holds pride that freezes enemies. Does that not also explode corpses? 6. You almost have no life leech on you but massive amounts of mana leech. Why is that? Why not use two lll rings? 7. How you get to those resistances with just lvl 6 nr plus anni and torch is all you got in there? But overall pretty interesting build and I especially highly appreciate the forti over enigma choice. To slap enigma on almost every single character and degrade them to teleport mf bitches feels just wrong.
I actually think about building a throwing/frenzy hybrid for 2.4. But I like the idea to use dual fleshrippers on switch for frenzy and just skilling the throwing mastery. Then you can concentrate on going for dex instead of strength because it also improves dagger damage and gives a little AR bonus for all attacks. I also think that the stats of a fleshripper can compensate a good amount of the not skilled mastery. They have -50% target defense and 33% deadly strike for example what compensates the critical strike and attack rating of the mastery. The saved skillpoints can be used for getting a good BO. Also a set upped heart carvers could be an option for using item find. They have also good amount of damage and deadly strike. The ignore target defense unfortunately only works for normal monsters. With dual fleshrippers it also could be possible to run ubers because of the nice amount of crushing blow and open wounds.
Great video, loved the thorough explanation! Question - what are you suppose to use this build for? Based on the suggested equipment you have O mf and adding any of the traditional mf gear would seriously decrease the effectiveness of the build.
You're able to very easily swap in a lot of MF on gloves, belt, boots, and rings. You farm any area like the pits and Hork elite monsters for added drops.
I admire you passion since this is not an amazing build. On the other hand making a build to work is such a nice feeling! Is it game breaking to remove the quantity of all throwables as a quilty of life?
It always seemed obvious to me that double throw is balanced around a playstyle of ranged throwing and melee fighting with frenzy. I made a frenzy barb that’s 90% frenzy focused but with dual lacerators on switch to proc amp on uniques and bosses. It feels natural. Throw weapon is a hybrid skill. Players really need to stop trying to pigeonhole builds into unnecessarily needing to be specialized into. You’re a tried and true number crunching nerd macro. It may not get you the views but you are doing amazing work for the community and the game.
I think that's the correct take away. Most builds are actually multi-skill builds that accomplish certain farming strats, and you don't NEED to only have CTA on swap, with Enigma and only farm x,y,z. Once you start thinking slightly outside the box you can enjoy Double Throw-type builds without hating it.
@@MacroBioBoi i’m just glad i shopped some high ed eth lacerators early on during d2r launch when people were practically giving them away on jsp. They are exceptionally rare and will probably be priced accordingly on ladder launch. Great great, underrated weapon imo.
It would be a massive change tbh. Weapons when Thrown often have 3* the base damage when used as a 1-hander in melee. Throw weapons outmatch Runeword damage often
That's a great question that requires testing. My initial thought is yes. Lacerator is a must use on this build because of the rate that you apply Amplify Damage is infinitely more important than the increased damage on Warshrike, but that's me doing napkin math in my head.
if you accidentally deplete quantity, can you put them on switch, use another pair of weapons and replenish the switch weapons with crits? will this work with a depleted ethereal set?
Very interesting video. Not much of it was technically new to me, but just "Oh duh. Of course. I should have thought of that." IK gloves and belt might be worth considering outside of budget, swapping between IK boots or Gores depending on content. Just with gloves and belt you got 50 AR, 25% IAS, 45 STR, 20 DEX, and Fire/Light Res. Adding boots to that is 135 AR, 44 Life, 25% MF, +2 Combat, and 25% FHR. Since you're stacking STR anyways, you might also consider upping them. I'm just not sure how well Laying of Hands ED compares to the STR bonus.
nice build, for normal packs of monsters fine, but for massive (players8 in hell SUCKS) i remember cases being surrounded by a HUGE pack of Champs Lords Death/Gouls. plus 3 dozens of minions. My merc died n 10 seconds or less. Even with a rw gear (Forti, Ethereal etc. The only way was ESC key. LoL D2 Lod was, in some cases, impossible.
The way I see you making a throw barb, means I can't really make a full throw barb. I will also have to put points into other skills taking away from War cries. For me, this is just more complicated and difficult to play. It's just the way I'm wired. Simple is better. Spreading skill points will also weaken me and the party. It's like playing a berserk throw barb. 😳🥺😵💫
Double throw really isn't great until you have at minimum dual Gimmershred, and then it can only really farm Eldritch Pindle Shenk which isn't terrible...just repetitive.
@@MacroBioBoi damn that sucks, as great as the game is they still cant nail the skill balancing, pretty much youre stuck with default builds early on...
@@gspuag I wouldn't agree with that. They have made Fire Druid, Bladesin, FoH Pally, Plague Javazon, Melee Jabazon, Fire Claws Druid, Leap Attack Barb and Warcry Barb all phenomenal starters, without talking about the 8 new Sorc builds that came out of this.
