    I love the fact that the King was only 16 when he was inspired to look at life in this way.

    Having test over this in my class today, now I can finally understand. I wish people now aday can adapt this motto. I mean values simplicity over materials is a great thing to do. Forget about technology, just all go outside talk to each other. For get about profit and benefit, lets care for each other more and stop worry about things that not helping you happy.

    Was the '90's ethnic cleansing a part of his GNH concept too?
    Such an enlightening concept, this GNH, but let's not forget that my family and thousands of other Nepali natives were kicked out of Bhutan during the reign of the "4th Dragon King" and his GNH movement. We were forced to live the lives of oppressed refugees in Nepal for almost two decades.
    But in retrospect, his plan seems to have worked out pretty well as the majority of us Bhutanese refugees have now resettled in various 1st world countries such as the US, Canada, UK, Australia and more. I speak for most of us when I say that we are happy now and we have the "4th Dragon King" to thank for that.
    P.S. No hate. This is solely my opinion as a kid born to refugee parents and having lived most of my formative years as a refugee.

    @lululuvu : I think these numbers don't mean much for GNH. Even though the life expectancy in Bhutan isn't high when we compare it with other high life expectancy countries, it's life expectancy has been increasing steadily over these years.

  • @danndan6
    @danndan6 13 лет назад

    @lululuvu i checked; it's 65 years. How do they measure GNH? I think unlike GDP which is a single, measurement which results in a single unit/figure, GNH is a lot more general. You can't put a green upwards arrow next to an actual number and go "national GNH went up 0.3% last week". For a developing nation, GDP does matter a lot which is why it used to be relevant for us. but for a developed nation that already has infrastructure and comforts, it should no longer take center stage

  • @bugbunnyace

    @lululuvu i wasn't disagreeing with you when i said about the earings. sure, the fact that the debt is so important i think backs up why GNH is so important and why GDP is so misleading. a major reason why GDP is so high in USA, UK, etc is because they are borrowing so much money. so much of the wealth creation isn't real until the debt is paid. They've been so focused on GDP that they've sunk their countries into debt and harm to achieve it. the focus on gdp has lead to the debt. GNH=no debt

    @lululuvu there's a grand total of 33 factors involved in measuring GNH, not three, so i mean...
    the idea of measuring GNH is a great one in my opinion. may need some time to iron out exactly how to "measure" happiness, but you dont think that basing societal development on its citizens' happiness is a good idea??

    Just to reveal the one more fact of Bhutan ; Do you know more than hundred thousand Bhutanese refugee live in Nepal. Primary reason why they were forced to leave their own country by their king was they were Nepali speaker and most of them were educated(educated people could potentially revolt against their king).So Bhutan is not as colorful nation as it seems like

    @lululuvu and are you sure that this is down to the problems with using GNH or perhaps the wrong management of it all. Remember, GNH is about striking a balance. How do you know that the principle of striking balances is wrong rather than the balances that were struck? I just recently saw that the bhutanese are bringing in TV for their people. This is clearly poor management. GNH isn't meant to mean perfect governance, it is meant to put governance into perspective

    Do not seek negativity, cuz it's present everywhere. See the good things bro. I won't get into a bandwagon of hating on Bhutanese for that reason cuz there is too much hate in this world. We don't need it. I m trying to look at the brighter picture here my fren n wat we can learn from them. They might have forcefully displaced ppl from their country but look at ourselves now, we r so eager to divide ourselves. Our country is doomed.Truth is, Our rulers had no sense of justice n were not strong.

  • @danndan6
    @danndan6 13 лет назад

    @lululuvu Yes, having the basic needs in the 21st century definitely has been proven to impact quality of life but having a fast car or diamond earings does not. in fact, go to the equality trust website. two professors of epidemiology discovered from data that in the developing world, gdp growth directly affects quality of life but gdp growth in the developed world does not. we have increased GDP 30 times over with no improvements in quality of life. USA needs GNH, Ghana needs GDP :)

    Well explaination. Even they cannot indicate the happiness, however most of the hbutaness students from all over the world are very happy with one thing. I really wondering that why they have the same behave in one thing. When i have been in Singapore, Australia and Thailand, most of the bhutan students are eager to find a partner for sex. First, i though that the country is in cultural unique, value their traditional ethic. How come...? Most of them already had married, government official. So, they lost their ethical norm of a real bhutanese. On the other hand, they might look for another happiness in other countries. What the government will consider???????????????

    They are frm Nepal.their Forefathers were Nepali
    The Nepali Government knows that but still dey are not willing to take back their people
    More 90% of the refugees in those camps haven't even been to Bhutan
    dey are there becoz of the free food they get there from the World Food Programme
    Bhutan has never insulted Nepal or criticised Nepal's political system
