Bhutan is the only country in the world to measure success not by economic growth but by "gross national happiness".
The philosophy has been at the centre of all government policy for the past 10 years.
But development over the years is putting the ideal of happiness under strain.
Al Jazeera's Neave Barker reports from the Himalayan kingdom.

Every countries need to learn from Bhutan. The United Arab Emirates is a happy country-mostly. It gains back one spot in the United Nations’ global report after dropping by four last year. With roughly 10 million residents, the emirate was hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic and, much like the rest of the world, it has yet to fully recover. The non-oil economy-tourism in particular-was heavily impacted and migrant wage workers-who generally report much lower levels of happiness compared to native nationals to begin with-often found themselves suddenly unemployed and without any safety net. As the report has highlighted many times over the years, the happiest countries tend to also be the most generous and equal.

This tiny island nation in the Persian Gulf knows something about happiness: since 2013, when Bahrain stood at 79th place in the global happiness ranking, it climbed 58 spots to number 21 globally.
With a population of just 1.7 million and wealth based on both oil and natural gas resources as well as banking and tourism, Bahrain is one of the richest nations in the world. But the country's wealth is not new, so what caused its rapid ascent in the happiness rankings? Over the past few years, the government greatly expanded social programs supporting employment, equality and general wellbeing. As a result, Bahrain scores well when it comes to supporting people and families in times of need, healthy life expectancy and freedom to make life choices. What governments do and don't do has a major impact on determining the happiness of their people and Bahrain's government has stepped up its game.

In 2017, Bhutan informed China of the existence of the particular land dispute btw two countries and dispatched Indian troops ( a third party to claim) to enforce the claim. This sudden escalation of armed confrontation is not what the happiest people do. Pull out of gun at your neighbor and say “ f-off” is not so jolly. If the neighbor is 100 times stronger, that’s sheer madness. Should use diplomatic means, such as UN appeal, formal condemnation, international court proceedings etc. before armed confrontations.

95 % of the so called Bhutanese refugees are actually Nepalese economic migrants from areas surrounding Bhutan. This is the only refugee crises in the worlds history where there were no killings, burning of houses, driven out on gun points, hunger or poverty stricken, mass deaths, etc. The usual evil stuffs seen during refugee crisis, ethnic cleansing or genocide are absent in this so called refugee crisis. There are only claims made by handful of people and their claim was they were thrown into prison. They broke the law of the state . It happens to criminals in every nation on earth. More - no women and children were imprisoned, tortured , threatened or killed. So what kind of refugee is this? Well , when UN hands out free rations and relocations to America , the refugee camps become honey pot to poor people, attracting any poor Nepalese people claiming to be refugee from Bhutan. The actual and majority of Nepalese migrants settled in Bhutan are still living in Bhutan. So why are there huge numbers of Nepalese people in the refugee camps? The actual truth is known by the Bhutanese people and the so called refugees. The words spoken from Bhutan are subdued or taken lightly. The so called refugees will not speak of anything that will get them barred from getting free rations and relocations to America or western countries. The actual truth is quite something else than reported on medias. Somehow a doubt creeps in to what we read or saw on medias in the past. Something happens and it gets misinterpreted or lost in translation, people take advantage of that situation. Some medias add fuel to that fire and build mountain out of molehill.

Nothing in this world brings happiness as what a good paying job and health does. Rest all is nonsense.
