    If you're like me Unc, I live in a town of about 100,000 people. Three Wal Marts, Two Ross, one Target, two comic shops(only one really carries figures) and one Ollies. The places I can search are limited and then they have limited product. So the thrill for me ordering online is I actually get the figure. Now if I see it in the wild sometimes I will pick it up, but a lot of times I just leave it because I know these stores in my area don't carry jack and I want other to people to have a chance to get it, plus I'm patient, I don't have to have it right away. With that being said it is great to find something in the wild

    The thrill in online ordering for me is actually getting the thing I want. I never saw hellverine in store. I ordered him. I never saw any of the McFarlane batman forever line in store except a specialty toy store and you better believe they cost more than online. I never saw azrael in store, I ordered him. Keaton with batmobile, ordered it. I understand the thrill of finding stuff in the wild but these stores just don't be stocking like they should. Like you said you'll find stuff at Ross that was never at Walmart or target. Usually when I order online I rarely regret it because I find the item in store later, I just never see it except what I ordered.

    I prefer to shop in a store. I can look at the product and see if the paint looks good or if the accessories are all in the package. Now if there's only one item in stock, it becomes a take it or leave it situation. I feel better about the quality control when i can inspect the box myself. I definitely know that I won't end up with the wrong item.

    I have to order online if I want anything, these damn stores around me got the same junk since the pandemic. I don't even walk back to the toy aisle anymore when i go shopping, same old shit I already know.

    I’m in the Bay Area. Stores never have anything ever. It’s either order online or buy it from a comic shop. Paying retail or finding an online sale is a thrill for me because i hate scalpers and ebay.

    There's only a thrill in hunting in store when your stores get new stuff or have anything at all. I'll hunt in a store if I'm in the area but I no longer go out of my way to do so because my stores barely have anything and if they do happen to have something that's new and desirable they only get one case in which sells out almost immediately.

    I enjoy the hunt but don't enjoy not finding anything or having to travel hours for a maybe. I get a thrill from online shopping especially if I find what I'm looking for or even if I stumble upon something new. I guess it works either way for me😂😂😂

    So many people use collecting (and other things) to fill the hole in their life. You're right, that this stuff can't make you happy, you get some enjoyment, but you can't really find happiness externally. I think a lot of those angry collectors are like that, unhappy, and want to drag others in the community down to their level. They get mad when they see you enjoy something they can't. They see you're enjoyment and think it's happiness and are angry they aren't getting that for themselves. Rather than seeing the enjoyment comes from happiness, as if you aren't happy, then you really aren't going to get the enjoyment from the hobby. Great video Unc.

    As a rural collector it’s the only way to get the thrill of actually getting what you need 98% of the time. I’m moving to a city soon, and I’m probably going to switch to 100% in person hunting. Also in collectors groups there’s a thrill to getting stuff extremely cheap when people liquidate.

    Ordering online is the way to go for many ppl. Especially if you dont want to waste, time money and gas just to be disappointed at the end of the hunt. Also the odds are always stacked against you when toy hunting. Release dates, item not stocked, employees hiding stuff and resellers etc. I'll stick to ordering online.

  • @thunderfoot74
    @thunderfoot74 3 дня назад +2

    I agree, Unc. I love going out to find stuff in the wild, but man, I've found everything I want online, and I've been getting really good deals online like the re-release of the og tmnt party wagon for $25.99

      Australian here. Hasbro and our stores don't have much interest in transformers. Deluxes show up months after the rest of the world (quake just appeared on selected shop shelves). So ordering online is something collector's have to resort to

    There's about 17 Walmarts here in San Antonio. Imagine going to all them in a day and not finding anything . We also have a lot of "vendors" and flea markets . So online shopping is a blessing . Walmart is still a crap show online though . The concept of a preorder is lost on them

  • @1hurricanesfan
    @1hurricanesfan 3 дня назад

    I preorder everything I want as soon as it’s available. If I see the item in stores before the preorder is ready to ship, I cancel the preorder and enjoy my figure. It’s easy as pie. Collecting shouldn’t be difficult or even stressful. When someone gets to that point, they should reconsider the hobby as a whole.

    I used to really like the thrill of the hunt, but these days it's not worth it. The scalping cucks and hoarders clean out the stock at local stores. Its so much easier getting it online. I get a thrill when I open up the mail package and finally lay eyes on the figure, I pre-ordered months ago.

    (When they actually punish theives), I actually prefer the store model than online.
    I have stopped collecting altogether rather than buying online. We've all been burned real badly shopping online.
    I need to look at the face, paint job, and quality control of the item in person, or I'm not buying. Because I'm not going to get burned that way again! I'm with You, Unc!

    There is no collecting online… That’s ordering… Collecting is going out and hunting in the wild. I ordered Wolverine and Deadpool Legends series and that was in October. It is now January 2025 and Im not collecting Im waiting… it’s ordering and waiting…. I also ordered some of the Secret Wars Lebends figures… I ordered them over a month ago… Im just waiting. It’s just ordering and waiting. It’s weak. The modern collector is spoiled. Also, I’ll add, that there should be a limit for three figures per customer. No third party company can buy up 200 figures and charge the average collector double…. It’s complete bullshit…. Ordering does give you some kind of solace knowing the figures will hopefully come one day… but then there’s shipping costs. Now a $24.99 figure is $34. I know it’s not going to change. But thanks for letter me express my frustration with this… Love you Uncle T!

    I like going on the road and hunting BUT you have to figure in gas. Pre-ordering shit is more of a necessity. There's some stuff that I would never find in the wild because of scalpers.

  • @tombowling8646
    @tombowling8646 3 дня назад +1

    Yeah, there's definitely more fun in finding something in the wild. The only thrill in pre-ordering online is when you see that package outside your door, and even that is a two sided coin. Your thrill can easily turn to disappointment if it's a jenky figure.

    Opening boxes is like opening Christmas presents. So thats my childlike thrill for ordering online. But I more just care about the item rather than the experience of getting the item. Thats how you avoid bloating your collection of whatever

    To each his own but ain’t no way in hell I’m gonna keep burning a bunch of fuckin gas, driving everywhere in traffic, going to a bunch of stores, then leaving empty handed! My time is more valuable than that. I ordered SO MUCH online and my collection skyrocketed! To me, actually acquiring the item(s) is what makes it all worth it. Unfortunately, most of us have seen just how other collectors are mentally affected after constantly and constantly “hunting” and returning home with nothing.

    That’s funny u say that about asking and then not wanting when they get it. Nike released the Air Jordan 4 Military Blue in its OG form and color like everyone wanted and ppl complained bcuz it didn’t look like the “2012” pair. Same with the Black Cement 3s, ppl complaining cuz the leather wasn’t tumbled like the 2018 pair.

    My opinion and my opinion only I am not a gate keeper of collectionism ( is that a word? or did I invent a new one?). I stopped collecting modern they are cool, but its no different than funkos, its non-stop there is so much out there but at the same time there is nothing around and its costly. I myself am tired I compare myself to the dope fiend cant stop until that hit and once the high is over I am out doing it all over again. Corporations are targeting adults, kids no longer buy toys and then these Corporations make limited number or release a low numbers. Malls are dead, strip malls are barely surviving and you got flippers, scalpers and what not. I myself will not buy modern because I refuse to give my money to corporations. I rather buy or trade with local mom and pop toy stores or collectors. Maybe we are just a bit burned out and taking a break is ok, redefining why you collect or refining your collection is good too. I have been purging my collection or trimming it and I am enjoying that process. I am off the soap box who's next?
