- Don't make assumptions. Get curious not furious. Play the ball, not the person. And remember that at the heart of your debate and discussion is a human being with feelings.
Tonight on Ask Leah, I plead with all of us-anyone on social media and the media in general-to do better than what we saw over the weekend.
Don't dehumanise others when you debate.
Check it out in the video below.

Dehumanisation is essentially admitting that your motivations are not benign and you will call for violence to enforce your stance anyway
That's fair.. as long as people call it out for ALL issues.. even if you don't agree with the other side.
so true
There's no need to dehumanise when humans are already so horrible.
Great hear an Australian acent xo from David in Sydney 🥰
Great advice as always, thank you!
Thanks for watching.
@@Blaine-Bizbane is it ok to dehumanise Donald Trump?.
@@leahmether5323 You're welcome.
I think a lot of humanity may not have the skills to debate effectively. I can learn more and to do better for sure. What if you teach that?
Absolutely, it's why I'm passionate about teaching these skills. We must be able to debate ideas without attacking people and disagree with respect without dehumanising others.
Gday mate
Glad your comment came with a translation into inglush.
Leah, should anyone be nice to Donald Trump
If you believe in democracy you respect political candidates.
bro from pp is literally😐
Great question. I think we can be vehemently opposed to what someone stands for and the decisions they make without lowering ourselves to their standards of behaviour. As Michelle Obama said: "When they go low, we go high". We need to model the behaviour we want to see in others and lead by example. That doesn't mean going soft - not at all - but we can hold people accountable and call out poor behaviour in a strong and dignified way, even when respect is not what we get back.
@@leahmether5323why should we be nice to someone who is a pathological liar out to destroy women's rights and democracy itself? Sorry but you please is naive. Donald Trump has turned the US Republican Party into a cult. How does one deprogram its followers? MAGAts refuse to listen to truth and meaningful debate and are out to "own libs", and will sacrifice their rights to destroy those of others.
@@anthonymorris5084Donald Trump doesn't believe in democracy so your response tells us all we need to know.
