  • Try to win Civilization 1 by sending up a spaceship on the hardest level.
    First I focus only to build cities, meaning building settlers and trying to take over as much territory as possible.

    Also, since you can see the land on the left… I would’ve built the last city on the non-shield grassland despite (or turned it later into plains (you can still do that if the city can survive all the ”bad” turns (forest and non-irrigated plains until finally irrigated plains)) so I can easily have a boat available for fast transport between the islands, which is useful under democracy, no crazies being unhappy cos you have enough time to transport and get back to the city before the end of the turn.

    I have seen perhaps every video of civ 1 letsplay but these are the best. I play this game since 2011 (then I was 12) because I'm interested in old games. This game is one of my favorites.

      Thanks Mikhail for your comment, the old games have bad graphics but they have some stuff the new games doesn't have, they have a goal and a lot of thoughts and heart in it :) Civilization I is a favorite for me too.
      Would love to hear how a game you play usually looks like?

      @@IntuneVitaDoctrina I always play as emperor with 7 civs not on the Earth. In the beginning I try to build as many cities as possible (even if they have many overlapping tiles) to produce more warriors. Sometimes I use cavalry instead of chariots because you can produce them twice quickly to explore and capture cities.
      After capturing some cities or building 10 ones I build caravans, marketplaces and banks before libraries and universities and then switch to republic and increase luxuries to 30-50%. And then you don't need to build cathedrals and colosseums and even J. B. Cathedral to keep people content. Instead it's better to build more necessary things like granaries and settlers to process the tiles.
      Sometimes I switch to democracy and use diplomats to buy cities which give me more tax money.
      Thank you for the videos!

      @@IntuneVitaDoctrina Also I forgot to say that the tiles with production shield are like:
      # # & & # #
      # & & # # &
      & & # # & &
      & # # & & #
      where & are ones with shields so you can find out which river tile has a shield.

    There’s kinda zig zag pattern (from left to right going up, two tiles and the next row one tile to the right, two again, kinda like stairs from side) for the grasslands with shields but since usually some tiles are something else (f.e. forest, river, hills etc.), often it’s not easy to guess the hidden shields in swamp/river. There’s also a pattern for the special tiles and by turning grassland on such tile to forest, you’re gonna get a game one (which you can turn to the horse one (I usually prefer the horse since game tile doesn’t give any trade)).
    But it’s not like every grassland tile fitting the special tile pattern always turns into the special tile. I started to cheat on this, opening the map in an editor and testing the possible special tiles to know which ones are worth the work. Then I cheat also with swamps to know which ones are the shields. I don’t turn them in the editor (and save it as such), I just wanna know which ones and then work on them, does it count as half-cheating? 😄

      hahaha thanks to someone in a comment who explained to me how to find the good grass land and river and now I know it also, they are in pair of two and goes diagonal. I don't understand how I have never figured that out myself, I thought it was something in the river image before etc... :)

  • @molekyyli

    And on the small island I’d be tempted to found a city in the jungle spot, two fish, gold and game, all for one city. But it’s a spot requiring a lot of improvement for proper growth.
    And on the big land to the left I would’ve put the city two tiles to the left and one up, still would have the horse and maybe less hills (not that far along in the video to see what’s on the left).
    Why do you refuse to go for Bronze working, so you can have phalangs and way safer basic defense for your cities instead of militia?
    Okay, I’ll try to shut up and let you play. 🤣

    • @IntuneVitaDoctrina
      @IntuneVitaDoctrina  7 месяцев назад

      Hahaha yeah don't remember the exact place of city. Bronze working is good, but I guess also hoped to get that from someone else. Phalanx are good, 2 in defence, fortified you get another 50 extra...and if veteran and on a montain they are really strong!

    So, I watched the first episode of your long run. If you don't figured it out by yourself already, I found the answere to your question, how to determine, if a river gives a shield or not. There is a pattern in the grassland. You will find always 2 tiles of grassland with rings, that give a shield, next to each other. The row above it is shifted one tile to the right and so on. They build a diagonal from the bottom left to the top right. Just imagine the river as a cover above these pattern and you know where to find the tile with the shield. Can you in return tell me, how you hide everything except the terrain?
    I myself tried another run with kind and... lost. After defeating the first civilisation with only 2 cities I had an island for my own. I hurried to get the united nations and switch to republic for a better economy. So far so good, but I guess the AI watched your gameplays and tried to starve my cities with there units. There were a little ahead in technology and I only had 8 cities, so I didn't dare to attack them, which also would have requested me, to change my form of government. So I blocked all my island with diplomats. Unfortunatly I didn't knew that you can fortify them as well... In the end I tried to suffocate the enemy with my diplomats, what did work quiet well. Unfortunatly he still won the space race.

    • @IntuneVitaDoctrina
      @IntuneVitaDoctrina  Год назад +1

      thanks for the river tip, never learn that but I think someone else posted an explanation too so for next play I will know :)
      to see terrain I press, 't' on the keyboard and toggle forth and back with that.
      Well played, for me it is the most difficult win, I often come in same situation as you also, then I pause, go Despotism or alike, and just go for their capital :) then you cancel their space ship, if it is a coastal city the capital, I build like 8 Battle ships and take it, if in land... I even have been so bad I took it with a nuke or do peace and a lot of diplomats to remove city wall and attack it.

      even before building the first city. the additional bulbs in the beginning contribute alot to tech speed.
      I would have roaded the spawn tile in 4000bc. then move NE and road there. finally, move West and found the Capital. likewise, before founding the second city on the plains, the settler should have roaded at least one plain tile.

You lose a few turns by building roads on a few tiles (obviously just the ones that help increasing trade and are usable under despotism) around a city before founding a new one but it greatly helps with the science rate. You can easily compare it by building a few roads and then switch to some non-road tiles and take a look how many turns it’s gonna take to get one innovation.
