You made this video 11 years ago and it's still helping to this day. I sure wish I'd have stumbled across it the first time I replaced the battery. You my friend are what we used to refer to as a fuckin' mack daddy;)
Wild someone's here from 4 days ago, I came from a forum post in 2015 because mines been sitting for a year and a half and I'm getting her ready for the roads and racing again
Interesting approach. I don't have your tools, so I removed the panel and swung the bracket. Everyone complains about that one bolt that you can't easily get to, but they are wrong. I open the door to the first catch and you get a straight shot into the bolt with a socket driver. No threat to the paint or panel.
Thank goodness for your video. I'm a 61 yr old female and was able to follow your directions very easily. It took me a bit longer....that bolt toward the bottom inbetween door jam and fender is a Beotch, However I got it. Had the original Delco from manufacturer for 8 years. I did notice I had a tiny gap in panel by front wheel. It is that darn wheel well ...I need to reset it to fit in that little groove on top......ill do that tomorrow.
Just replaced mine this morning. The lower bolt in the door channel came out easy, but was impossible to reinstall. I recommend removing the fender skin from the triangular mounting plate 1st, as there is only one bolt to reassemble in the door channel, and it's a straight shot with a long extention. Much easier.
PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE DOING THIS PROJECT......This is an excellent video. However, after reading several forums regarding Solstice battery replacement, I came to find that it isn’t necessary at all to remove any body panels to replace the battery. I just replaced mine this morning. It took me far longer to run to the battery warehouse for a new battery than it did to replace the battery itself. REMOVE THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL. REMOVE THE PUSH CLIPS THAT HOLD THE PLASTIC FENDER LINER IN PLACE. Fold it out of the way. REMOVE THE BRACKET IN FRONT OF THE BATTERY. UNHOOK THE BATTERY AND SLIDE IT OUT. TOTAL TIME FOR THIS PROJECT WAS 20 MINUTES.
@@Dev-kf3uh Yes, you can. It's possible, a bit harder to do, but definitely can be done. You should just throw it on a jack and inspect the parts though while your there
Wow! I can't thank you enough for this video. I have a Saturn Sky and I live in Canada, where winter vehicle storage is mandatory. I'd been using a system of battery warmer and trickle charger for the winter, to allow me to leave the battery in the car, but the battery life was still drastically reduced. Getting the dealer to remove the fender was costly, and with Saturn now gone from Canada, finding a mechanic who was familiar with this odd battery placement was getting difficult. This is (hopefully), going to save me time and money by allowing me to remove and store the battery inside for the winter. Much appreciated!
I just wanted to thank you very much. I have a 2008 Saturn Sky Redline. My brother in law helped me. This is one of the best vids I've seen thanks for saving me allot of money.
Awesome video mate. we just pulled our 2007 GXP out of winter storage and totally dead battery. This video was great for the info you gave on how to and also how not to. Thank you so much for sharing. Now I can get the car back on the road without stupid expense and the biggest plus...... Happy wife, as it's her car. Awesome dude.
Hey Whoiitcc69, You are my new best friend!! Your video allowed me to remove my battery in less than 20 minutes! I had NO idea how in the heck I would get that thing out of that location in my car. After watching your video, it was simple! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I would still be scratching my head if it weren't for you!! Awesome video!!! Thank you again!!!!
Great video, I used this method to change battery. One thing I did: I bought my battery at Autozone and they offered me a "rewards card", something I usually turn down, but, when I got home and started to put everything back together I thought it would be easier if the bottom bolt in the door jam were held somewhat in place it would be easier. I used the "keyfob" part of the rewards card to hold the bolt in place. With the fender still swivelled out I put the bolt with the two washers thru the hole in the fender brace then screwed the bolt the hole (the hole was the perfect size) on the keyfob and poof when I put the fender back in place the bolt stayed right in there to be screwed in.
If you turn the front wheels to the right you will have more room to remove the 3 fender skirt bolts. Using a large screwdriver to put pressure on the fender bolt vs the needle nose pliers might also make it easier to remove.
Are you sure is possible to remove battery with all front wheels turned to the right and access through the fender liner? I would love to try that. Cheers!
I own a Sky, your comment... every other car I've owned - remove 2 bolts and pull battery out - done. For my Sky, I had to come on RUclips to WATCH A VIDEO on how to take the battery out. I'm sure if I had really put my mind to it, I could have eventually figured it out on my own - maybe. While once you do it, yeah it's not hard hard. It's about 50 times harder than every other car I've owned. The damn bolt in the door well gave me nightmares. IMHO unless you own a Bentley or some exotic car you shouldn't need an instructional video on how to get a battery out. And I own a Saturn, far from an exotic car lol.
Thank-you so very much! You are a natural teacher. I followed exactly what you described and everything worked as you stated. I hope you continue to help others. God Bless you for your help...J.Gomez
Thanks worked great. Couple of differences though. 2009 Solstice does not have bolts holding plastic fender well to fender. It has those plastic plugs. Also instead of using needle nose pliers to push out screw, I just loosened all the other bolts and pushed fender out until it made contact with the head of the screw and that created enough tension so the ratchet wrench worked properly. Much easier. Thanks again.
Thank you for this video. Great job providing details about the job. Mr. S. Roebuck has a 10mm wrench with a pivoting wrist near the ratcheting end. Perfect for this job. Thanks again.
Believe it or not: I bought my solstice 2008 on october 2007. And until NOW (july 27th 2015) the battery needs to be replaced... ( almost 8 years for a battery is a lot of time: good job Delco)
We bought our 2007 Solstice in August 2007, and I just had to replace the battery today. I'm shocked that the battery lasted almost 12 years. I wish I had a 10mm ratcheting wrench when I was taking the panel off. I finally got the two bolts off, but I'm leaving the bottom bolt off until I can get that wrench.
@@justtaint Mine lasted 14 years. If you take care of the car, you don't have to replace the battery that often. 2007 - 2001 battery life is pretty good.
Great instructions! Just make sure, as you tighten all bolts, you align fender panel-to-door/hood lines, making a similar even gap compared to other side of car.
yes sir I'm Mauricio From: Dallas tx and i have a pontiac Soltice and i almost break everything on my car that way i can get the battery of an change it lol Thanks for the video :)
Not having a 10 mm ratchet wrench, I was forced to find another way to remove the bolt(screw) from the door jam. With the door partially open I could see the pesky fastener from a different angle.... looking directly ahead from the passenger seat.... so, I used a standard ratchet with an extension. It was easy enough and I did not remove the screw completely until I could get at it with fingers from the other side. Putting it back, I used masking tape to hold the screw to the socket.
Some other owners have found out you can just take off the front wheel, pop a few screws in the plastic liner, and slide the battery out the wheel well without removing the panel. Just fyi.

Thank you for the post!! I just spent about an hour taking most of the fender off before I decided to check on a video. I do need some other tools (ratchet wrench) but I think I can get it done. Besides I have 3 surgeries to do tomorrow and can't buss up my knuckles any more. I'll get it this weekend. Aloha! Dr Mark. Hawaii
That was a very helpful video, saved me a bunch of anger and swares. One thing I found was if you removed the bottom bolt vs loosen, it makes it much easier to get at that very difficult bolt referenced as the fender becomes more flexible. Putting the battery down there is terrible design, especially when there is slack in fender make up making alignment difficult. No wonder the bums at GM went bankrupt.
