Im really sad that ahsoka didn't recieve the same treatment in lightsaber combat, some scenes are good and a really few save that show for me(anakin, baylan first fight scenes and maybe the last morgan fight), but most of the lightsaber coreography looks so "wacky" at times... i don't know "limited" is the word that describes the feeling better to me when i was rewatching these scenes. Nothing on the level of the Acolyte, man look jacki fighting style, they totally could have done it to ahsoka but then came the excuse of some fans "she changed her style" or "the reverse grip, fast style, double sabers looks bad in live action"(of course, let's not forget the ahsoka vs zombies scenes with obvious slow coreography for such a character), not wanting to deminish it, it's understandable but come on, look at those lightsaber fights in the acolyte. What a waste of resources on such a bad script again, what a wasted potential. Lightsaber fights like these could have elevated at least a little of the mediocre content we have got these days. Imagine ahsoka show or obiwan fight scenes with these. It makes me mad, im in so much disbelief with this franchise at the hands of the disney writers that i just want to be happy with my headcanon now, this is really becoming something of a marvel and really becoming saturated, and im not feeling it's great. Well for me star wars is just... missing something now, and i fell no one at the company's hands can bring it back to me personally :(
My statement to it all is just "Wasted potential"

  • @darkphoenix2

I like the speed but there's still a stiffness to this kind of choreography that comes from trying to be super precise about exactly what moves they should do. I wish we could see a more flowing, slightly messy style of lightsaber choreography that really looks like realistic martial arts. Look at a movie like The Duelists, where the fights have lots of little touches to make them feel more fluid and messy at the same time.
I mean, you're praising the Vader/Kenobi fight but look at the clip you used. Vader knocks down Obi-Wan, who doesn't exactly get up quickly, and Vader brings his saber down just slowly enough for Obi-Wan to avoid it. There's so much room for improvement.

    • @appletree13
      @appletree13 3 месяца назад +1

Well the preciseness probably comes from the Force. Jedi kind of enter a trance when they start fighting and let the Force guide their movements. It's how they can block blaster bolts.

Absolutely! Also, I love that they got a Dark Side baddie with a "new" light saber style that actually isn't new - and made it work great.
I mean, Darth Maul's double saber was nuts. We all gasped with glee in the TPM teaser trailer when that second blade emerged, and the fight scenes in TPM absolutely delivered on the promise.
Dooku just sort of had a bent saber, which was kinda okay cool and a bit more threatening looking, but not really anything spectacular.
Grievous had a bunch of helicopter sabers, which ... meh whatever.
    yadda yadda yadda
Kylo Ren had a cross shaped saber which was a bit cool looking in terms of symbolism. But it wasn't interesting in terms of the light saber action at all.
But Qimir? The split off shoto saber was awesome in action (and there's the promise for more, if we see shoto vs light whip). And it's not even new! It's new to live action Star Wars, but the split shoto blade has been in video games.

Huh? The fights in ep 5 were pretty horrendous compared to everything else in the movies. It was just a bunch of awkward pauses because we're fighting one guy, leaving yourself completely open, scurrying of camera when you can kill, purposefully attacking weapons instead of characters, and overly choreographed attacks that aren't aimed at the foe. The only thing it did right was look flashy and not have many cuts.

I'd rather rewatch the behind the scenes stuff regarding the Star Wars: Republic Commando video game squad camaraderie and the Avatar: The Last Airbender cartoon's martial arts choreography courtesy of Sifu Kisu.
Meantime, if I had my way, these sods should be grateful I won't fire them out of irrationally irreversible spite and disgust. With that said, the very competent ones may end up being useful choreographers and material referencers for certain animated works... who knows if the likes of Amity Blight-Noceda may need to be a CQC expert, sidearm training, and A-Wing flight expertise (and the A-Wing better be like the early X-Wing games' variant, not the overbearing X-Wing Alliance and Squadrons ones) in some serialized sequel tale for a buncha Disney classics, innit?

I agree with the fact that the dueling in Disney’s SW is slow and pretty much boring and that this fight is truely a peak dueling (defenetly the best in Disney’s live action SW). But I disagree about Ahsoka’s bad dueling. Her dueling was amazing in her show (especialy her vs Anakin), I mean try to wear that head piece and fight, move quickly and act at the same time. She was great in it so not a single bad word about that. Sure the other fights weren’t as good but still not as bad as for example in Ep IX. But this fight is Honestly like Sidious/Dooku fights on steroids (this guy took down 7-8 jedi knights and masters like it’s just a child’s play).

If you don't take that into account the lightsaber fights are beautiful and I love how brutal they are Quimir just did not hold back which is what you would expect from a Sith lord.

Still, it looks like a stage play as opposed to a cinematic fight. Good choreography doesn’t look choreographed.

they need to just keep the choreographer for the acolyte as their full time choreographer. pretty much every fight scene in every other live action show outside of andor and mando has been awful. they always have a ton of obvious openings that werent taken advantage of or are just poorly done fights overall. the only time i noticed that with the qimir fight was when jecky kicked him in the chest instead of just stabbing him but it flowed well enough and she was a padawan so i can kind of excuse it. funnily enough though jecky seemed to be the most experienced in combat aside from sol lol, she was a badass.
