    Dueling doesn't apply and I did the full damage die by accident. Sorry. It's 0.65x(2.5+4) = 4.22 average. Its a little bit more with great weapon fighting and crit but whatever, you get the point. My conclusion is the same.

    • @Reapor234
      @Reapor234 10 месяцев назад

      @@Zodiac_Lord If it was the case, being that they're trying to lessen the gap between martials and casters, they did a very mediocre job so far. By that, I mean:
      - they gave some buffs to some martials like Fighter, Rogue, and Barbarian. Some of it is enough, but there are still issues at higher level play (like Barbarian not having much incentive to stay past level 7/8 in terms of class features.).
      - they gutted Monk for some reason. "StUnNiNg StIkE iS tOo StRoNg."
      They then had the audacity to buff wizard, sorcerer, and bard to absurd levels by comparison.
      - Wizards can buff their own spells to obscene levels so long as they have the cash; something that's plentiful in higher level play. By comparison, Barbs get a scaling damage modifier that only happens on a 5% chance roll of the dice (meaning that it's entirely possible to not roll a single critical strike an entire combat; even two. I know, I've been there.).
      - Sorcs get Improved Wish as their capstone. In comparison, Ranger gets small buffs to HM (meaning if they don't use HM because they'd rather concentrate on a better spell, they effectively have no capstone.).
      - Bards get access to two full spell lists for extreme utility around level 10. Meanwhile, monks had Stunning Strike reduced to once a turn with their only real buff being the level 7 feature for a 1 minute short rest once a day. They even made a Bard subclass that's just a Charisma based monk that can perform just as good, if not better because they have spells.

    Conjure Volley and Conjure Barrage feel strangely more monkish to me now...like the flying swords cultivator in a Wuxia anime.
    One correction on Vicious Mockery, Bard's can cast it if THEY can see or hear the target, but the target doesn't need to be able to see or hear the Bard.
    The smite spells (which are pretty annoying overall, and have the severe downsides of being subject to Counterspell and Silence for complete shutdown) don't work with ranged weapons, but they do work with thrown melee weapons, so you can smite at range.
    Special note about Searing Smite, since it's on the Divine spell list, it's available to clerics, divine bards, divine soul sorcerers, warlocks with mystic arcanum, and anyone through magic initiate. As you noted, it upcasts nicely and, since it doesn't require concentration, if you have a way of helping the CON save fail (silvery barbs, mind sliver, bane, etc.) to keep it up for the full duration, it may sometimes be worth a 9th level spell slot vs a single target (90d6 damage - 315 average damage with minimal investment). Regardless of how long the DoT is in effect, it's a decent option for melee clerics.

    It use to be that basically no combination of spells or class features ever supplanted how much damage Pam gwm did so anything that didn't work with it was bad. But
    A Pam graze doesn't do that much more damage than a dueling vex anymore. It it comes at the expense of lowering your damage with spells, then going Pam would probably lower your damage overall. But with dueling. You can still use a shield, and I think you you will find, sure, if you're a pam user, giving up a bonus action to smite isn't that appealing, but if you use,
    "whatever weapon is best" your total damage doesn't go down all that much as you swap from pam to dueling for your smites to work better and as dueling is much closer in efficiency to pam

Martials should feel incredibly dangerous at their preferred range. I mean even a multiplier for attacks hit in a row wouldn’t break them but it would feel like your Monk or Samurai spiking a bunch of attacks would do insane damage and for the love of god get rid of the (the first time they deal damage) thing from Barbarians. Most of the new smites are awful, but especially divine smite. Assuming a +4 Str, Quarter Staff & shield, Dueling, P.A.M, Flex Weapon Mastery & a 65% chance to hit, here's the results:
    Round 1:
    Divine Favor:
    [ (2d8+12) + (2d4) ] * 0.65 = 16.9
    Divine Smite (Assuming minimum 1 hit):
    (2d8+12)*0.65 + 9 = 22.65
    Round 2+:
    Divine Favor:
    [ (2d8 + 1d4 + 18) + (3d4) ] * 0.65 = 24.05
    Divine Smite is unchanged at 22.65 (but requires a 2nd spell slot).
    So if combat lasts 2 rounds, smiting twice nets you 4.35 more damage at cost of 2x the spell slots.
    Smites have never been an efficient use of spell slots in terms of pure damage, but their nova potential gave them purpose. Now they're just a trap or there in case you crit.

    In general, WOTC have mad a lot of bad choices, I am guessing they're becoming greedier.
    There's already a HUGE gap between martials and casters, both when concerning a caster's utility in and out of combat and the general basic combat power of each class. Casters get a lot of additional power besides their features like spell slots whereas martials are missing a continuous feature that grants them more strength besides their features. I know the rogue has sneak attack which gradually becomes better, but really, rogues are weak already.
    This gap become more and more apparent as you become a higher level. However, this gap can be mended a bit with a skilled DM that effectively helps the players set up short and long rests.
    There's too many things in 5E that are dependent on a DM creating something new or creating a new ruling to make the game more intuitive and meaningful. Most tools can't produce anything and are barely used.

    While I admit they're less powerful, if all spells that used to bump every attack instead bump one per round, I'll be happy with the change as it makes more options viable. I'm fine with non-spell options competing with spells just for the occasional build differences.

    I would agree with ya that branding smite would be better than Divine smite if it was not for the fact that 50+% of all dnd monsters are resistant or immune to fire damage, and like monsters that i can barely count on my hand resistant to Radiant. Fire spells have always done a lot on numbers but Wizards of the cost does this to balance out how bad it is in the grand scheme on how many monster don't give a shit about fire.

    I think PWK should just do the 12d12 damage regardless of the target's health and if it they end up with under 100 they die, maybe add a a wisdom or int save to take half damage, idk just spitballing

    So, Hex and Hunter's Mark can only cause damage once a turn? Or is that JUST Hunter's Mark? They UPPDED the damage for Hex to compensate but you have to cast a higher level spell... Man I want the old Warlock spell casting back! Is the Survey open for this yet because I have a LOT to say on this one!

      Hunter's Mark and Hex both got the same changes. Treantmonk did an interesting analysis showing that the debuff isn't as bad as it first seems - if you upcast it for the higher damage. This is because you get the full damage boost from it even if you only hit with one of your attacks.

    • @Zr0din
      @Zr0din 11 месяцев назад

      @kclubok thank you. I saw that video but didn't quite understand why he was so happy until you said it like that. I still don't like the issue as half casters you have to spend the higher spell slot. I mean, how many do you get as a HALF caster? Then it scaled with the number of successful attacks, it still only cost you a 1st lvl spell slot.

    • @kclubok
      @kclubok 11 месяцев назад

      @@Zr0din Even as a half caster, the upcast spell slot isn't an issue, since you can keep it going all day for one upcast slot. The real problem is that it takes your concentration, and you likely have better things to do with your concentration.

      Due to the bonus action cost it new creates an awkward situation where you have to save your bonus action untill after your attacks, just in case you need it for smite. I could see the reasoning behind having divine smite be once per turn, but the bonus action seems like overkill

    If they wanted to get away from Monk being the Asian class, then why didn't they make a West Europe style Scholar Monk based on INT that can double as a Investigator/Lore/skill monkey? Seems like an easy and obvious option, but the base class is so weak you can't make it a skill based character because it still doesn't have spells (except maybe guidance cantrip) and it's too weak in combat to be an asset to the group. Monk still creates liabilities just being present! So sad!

    • @The_Yukki

      Because they still want a punch-guy, and likely so does most of 5e players but they wanna move away from "asian" cause twitter ballerinas get their panties twisted.
      So for some reason instead of moving away from it completely and going for a more "brawler" focused pugilist who can take a hit and still stand, they kept the "I'm gonna be dodging and do kung-fu shit, but it's called differently so it's 100% not kung-fu"

    • @Thatposer444

      I was excited when they originally announced they were moving away from the explicitly Asian-themed old version of monk because I thought they were moving towards a brawler martial artist. Then we saw they just renamed everything that was there and did no meaningful changes to the worst class in the game
